That's a nice setup. Some of my garden is "together" like that...other parts, not so much. But that doesn't stop me from throwing some shade cloth over the top of a young tree when an unusually intense heatwave comes along. I've found though, that without a nice structure to hold the cloth up over the tender avocado leaves, or whatever plant, the heat transfers directly from the shade cloth to the leaves and they can still get burned - but not the skin of the branches which would be permanent damage. My solution (that doesn't involve building a structure) is to have the white shade cloth on hand. White has a higher _albido_ than black (reflects the sun energy like a ski slope) and doesn't absorb as much heat. I'll be testing that out this summer. I expect good to perfect results.
I got the white shade cloth from Bootstrap, one really big piece ( by my backyard standards) that I can cut to do over structures - like over the tomatoes - or toss over my young fruit trees during hot afternoons. Bakersfield CA isn't ideal for avocados, but it can be done with a little help and creativity 🙂👍
