This version of Dracula is still my absolute favorite. Key thing to know about the casting for the film: both Keanu and Winona were actually not Coppola’s original choice but the studio wanted them in the film because they were both the “it” actors at the time. Keanu went out of his way to try and learn the English accent and studied it as best he could but he couldn’t get it at all. Winona had done multiple roles back to back and was drained during the filming process on this and Oldman was beyond frustrated working with her on the romantic scenes. Needless to say, besides the obvious setbacks on the movie, it’s still wonderful

Actually, it was only Keanu that was not his choice. Winona actually was the one who brought the book and the idea of the movie to Francis Coppola. She WAS his Mina. The studio wanted Keanu to draw the teenage female trade. He was miscast, but tried very hard to get the British accent down.

@@Whipslinger1yeah Winona Rider worked hard for this movie to be made in the first place.

People insist on calling it "Bram Stoker's Dracula" because this movie is supposed to be very faithful to Stoker's book.
Dracula thinks Mina is the reincarnation of his old love who committed suicide 400 years before.
Don't be too hard on Mina. Dracula has the power of compulsion and a magnetism, so she is not acting totally under her own free will.
Vampires in this telling can transform into many things, flies, mist, fog, a colony of bats, rats, man-bats and yes as a wolf and werewolf.
A gentleman kissing a woman's hand is a sign of respect, especially if he met her for the first time.
The "cracker" was a communion wafer.😅

I enjoyed his reactions and narrations so much! At times he made me laugh so hard. I was talking to my phone screen like he and I were in a conversation about this movie. He was quite entertaining. And I agree with his assessment of Gary Oldman's complexity in playing the various aspects of Dracula's nature, too. This was a really cute video! 😅

Coppola reason for hiring Keanu reeves was because he was the it boy at the time. The heart throb in the early 90s.

I love how they put the real Vlad the Impaler or Vlad Draculia from history in the movie, which turns out to be Dracula, the vampire

Bram Stoker wrote the book 'Dracula' which is the base for all modern Dracula stories. This may be why people insist on using the authors name so it is known to be authentic lore. Many movies made of vampires often romanticize the creature that is truly evil in nature. He had more in common with demons than humans.

Last Voyage of the Demeter came out last year, yes. It's worth checking out, if only to get another take on a small chapter of the Dracula story.

Vlad Tepesh, the historical inspiration for Dracula was known also as Vlad the Impaler. He was a particularly cruel and sadistic warlord according to most records (but still considered an hero in Transylvania for having stopped the Ottoman invasion) he’s rumoured to have left thousands of Ottoman soldiers impaled alive on the side of the road as a sign to the rest of the Ottoman. That’s why the human chic kebab bit at the start

Seen this in theater. It was supposed to resemble a play. That's why certain things looked like bad special effects. Poor Keanu his accent was horrible 😂 great reaction love!

Never thought Keanu would ever be much of an actor. We'd say a role as a fence post would be too much of a stretch. But I am happy to be wrong and to have seen him grow -- not that he ever shows much emotional range, but he sure makes it work for him. Anyway, done some good work and is, by all accounts, a truly wonderful person. One good thing about Keanu's appalling accent is that it distracts from Winona's which wasn't a lot better. The film production did them both dirty by not spending more time with a voice/accent coach for the pair.

He said the SAME exact thing that I had said! Why didn't she just wait a couple hours to see whether or not Vlad would've actually made it home for dinner?!?! She couldn't wait for her people to bring confirmation of his death?? She was a PRINCESS so I know she had people. 😮 She took the leap of death, o she of little faith! 🤦🏽‍♀️

I always assumed that she killed herself out of love, but also because she knew what the enemy would do to her without her man to protect her.
Also, try watching Dracula, Dead and Loving It for a completed different take. 😂

At the beginning, you said after Dracula's wife self-unalived herself, "What if she jumped up and said, 'Just kidding'"...lol. I thought, Dracula might say, "What?! I already drank the blood. Oh sh*t." and then he'd throw her out the window again but this time for real lmao 🤣🤣🤣
