If you don't disable/uninstall onedrive before moving your documents folder, there's a high chance that Onedrive will take over as your documents folder. It will create a new EA folder in this path C:\Users\Public\Public Documents & your game will not have any of your mods or saves.
Hey! It can be a flash drive as well, but you're better off purchasing a hard drive. Just have something with a lot of storage that will last a long while.
Hard drives usually have more space and is better equipped for this. An internal hard drive would be the best, but an external one is easier to set up.

I've been desperately trying to cut down on my 51gb of mods (the color sliders take up so much room!) but just can't bear to part with much of it, the other methods seemed so complicated--even after fighting with OneDrive this was so easy to follow! Are you still struggling with this issue? I haven't done it yet, so I'm not entirely sure myself, but maybe you need to enter the mklink prompt in the command line? Gamers Image has a tutorial showing how to move your entire game using those commands. It sounds like it might be the same issue. I'm going to try it myself and update you if I get it to work 😂
Holy crap I have been needing to do this for SO long and NO ONE has been able to tell me how to do it! I keep running out of space on my hard drive and I just cannot choose which mods to delete, but I also play World of Warcraft and I can't play that off of my external drives, so it was between deleting mods for the Sims4 or not being able to play WoW. Hey, you just follow the same steps, except instead of clicking move, you choose restore to default. You may have to copy the files back to the newly restored c drive documents location after clicking the restore to default option.

Nyxtress, you magic ! I don't know how it works but it works ! I struggled for a while at first, because I saw my folders remaining in my OS C: drive. I thought it didn't work, except that it SHOWS that the folders are there but they're NOT THERE, cause my OS C: drive now has more free space ! For anyone wondering, if you want to add stuff into your Documents afterwards, you can add new stuff in the new Documents, and it will magically appear back in the old Documents without taking space in it ! Sorcery !

That's why I said be careful not to combine any of the This PC User folders into each other. I'm glad you found it helpful and took a little time to play around with it.☺❤

honestly this is such a life savior. i had to desperately move the folder bc i dont know what else i could do to free up some space and my pc has been acting up a LOT because there was no space on the C drive

I wish I found you before I redid everything for my sims...💔 like re installing. BUT my game needed it with how many bugs I had. This method worked so well and so easily so thank you so much. Everything else wanted me to change physical directories. This was the most "me" proof method I could find.
I'm sorry, I guess you deleted your previous message. What was your original issue? Just a heads up, most people have to uninstall onedrive as it will takeover, and the game will read from the onedrive folder instead. Also, onedrive holds on to old mods, which will also cause issues. There's a link in the pinned comment about how to uninstall onedrive.
Thank you for this! I have a desktop so it made more sense to buy a new internal SSD rather than an external drive. Onedrive definitely made it more difficult but eventually got it figured out! :)

Hey, I don't really use one currently. I have an old laptop and 2 large hard drives. Maybe some old stuff stored in drive. You can try unlinking onedrive and just manually storing stuff on it (I'm not sure if that's how it works, though)

Hi! You don't have to move the game to the hard drive. I'm not sure about DLC unlocker, I believe it'll be fine wherever you have it. Just follow the video to move your documents folder.
Hey girl! I have a small issue. After I moved my Documents folder to my ssd, I right clicked on documents and clicked properties, but i can't find location to change it. Location only pops up in my default documents folder outside of my drive. Maybe I did something wrong.

Hey, sorry for the late reply. You should be able to launch it like normal. If you don't have your saves and mods are available when you launch the game, then you have to disconnect onedrive.

Hey, you should put any mods you want to function in game in your mods folder. So if your mod folder is on D drive then that's where they should go. No problem, I hope this was helpful! 😄

Hi, it's not stupid at all. You have to do it this it way because it lets your system know that this is the new location you want your documents to be saved to and read from. Otherwise, it'll be just a backup that wont be treated as your documents. I hope this makes sense.

Hey, so I haven't moved my game to an external drive yet. According to EA and other simmers that have switched, the game will load faster on an SSD type drive. So you'll have to decide whether it sounds like a good move. If you know you're going to use a lot of mods, I do recommend moving your documents folder over to your external drive.

No problem! 😊 Currently, I'm trying to organize my stuff into CAS and build mode CC. Technically, the more files and folders your game has to read, the slower it gets.
None of your cc items are showing in build mode?? If that's the case and you have better build buy TMEX, then make sure you ticked the custom content box in build mode settings.

If the external drive has space for your a copy of docs folder and the one that'll be connected to your external drive, then you can copy it to your external drive to a folder called 'documents - copy' or whatever name that will help you remember. Otherwise, just try to make a backup of the really important stuff and use cloud storage accounts like Dropbox or Google Drive.
Aside from clearing space on the drive, would you recommend the transfer anyway to a SSD drive because it would make the game faster if you have mods (or is there no difference)?
If your game is already on an ssd, then it probably won't make a difference. I feel like my game loaded faster when I 1st transferred over, but then I just bogged it down again with more mods and cc.

Hey! Right-click on the folder you want to delete and go to properties. If it's the same as the drive you just moved it to then leave it alone. Did more space become available on your C drive after you moved your documents?

So Onedrive will sometimes replace your normal documents folder. This is usually the path C:\Users\Public\Documents or C:\Users\username\OneDrive\Documents. So check to see if your EA folder is in either of those places, if so use the videos in the pinned comment to unsync and uninstall Onedrive.

Ok. Let's go through the steps, then. Did you use the location tab to move your documents folder? You can't just copy and paste because that won't work. At 3:45 I show how to see where the game is reading your EA folder from, make a quick save, and see where it's stored. Are you actually using a hard drive, and is it functioning properly?

Hey, it should be fine to delete. It should go to your recycling bin. You can recover it from there if you see it deleted files from the documents you normally use or delete it to recover the space on your drive.

Hi! If you made a back up and then deleted it, check your recycling bin to make sure the files aren't in there. Otherwise, you'll probably have to unlink/uninstall onedrive as it tends to hold on to files and causes issues for updating mods and moving/deleting files.
Hi! The default for most browsers is to save downloads to your downloads folder. You can change that to whatever you like, though. I wouldn't suggest having all your downloads go to your mods folder, but you can make it so you can choose where your downloads go to.

Hi, I'm not sure about the cracked version. I can tell you that this will only move the mods folder because it moves your documents folder. You may have to reinstall the EA app or change the installation settings in it to wherever you move your sims 4 game & expansions to.
You're welcome! 😊 if there's a folder left on c drive, that usually means that something didn't get copied over. That can happen for a few reasons, usually it's because you have the same folder or file on the new drive. If you're talking about the folder that appears under This PC, if you check properties, you'll see that it's now connected to your new drive. If it's a copy of your original documents folder, I recommend keeping a copy somewhere even if it's stored on gdrive. If you have a copy, it should be fine to delete the one on c drive since you can put back the file if you notice something is missing later

Hi, if you don't plan on downloading much cc, then you shouldn't need that much space. 1tb or less should be fine. You would have to follow different directions for Mac. I believe you will have to use a link share tutorial.

Hey, I think I have a link in the pinned comment for issues with the location tab. As for your second question, you don't have to enable anything. You are just moving your documents folder to a new drive, and that's the default folder that the sims 4 uses to store game info. That's the great thing about this method!

Hey, you just follow the same steps, except instead of clicking move, you choose restore to default. You may have to copy the files back to the newly restored c drive documents location after clicking the restore to default option.

I struggled for a while at first, because I saw my folders remaining in my OS C: drive. I thought it didn't work, except that it SHOWS that the folders are there but they're NOT THERE, cause my OS C: drive now has more free space !
For anyone wondering, if you want to add stuff into your Documents afterwards, you can add new stuff in the new Documents, and it will magically appear back in the old Documents without taking space in it ! Sorcery !

That's why I said be careful not to combine any of the This PC User folders into each other.

I wish I found you before I redid everything for my sims...💔 like re installing. BUT my game needed it with how many bugs I had. This method worked so well and so easily so thank you so much. Everything else wanted me to change physical directories. This was the most "me" proof method I could find.

I'm sorry, I guess you deleted your previous message. What was your original issue? Just a heads up, most people have to uninstall onedrive as it will takeover, and the game will read from the onedrive folder instead. Also, onedrive holds on to old mods, which will also cause issues. There's a link in the pinned comment about how to uninstall onedrive.
Thank you for this! I have a desktop so it made more sense to buy a new internal SSD rather than an external drive. Onedrive definitely made it more difficult but eventually got it figured out! :)

Hey, I don't really use one currently. I have an old laptop and 2 large hard drives. Maybe some old stuff stored in drive. You can try unlinking onedrive and just manually storing stuff on it (I'm not sure if that's how it works, though)

Hi! You don't have to move the game to the hard drive. I'm not sure about DLC unlocker, I believe it'll be fine wherever you have it. Just follow the video to move your documents folder.
Hey girl! I have a small issue. After I moved my Documents folder to my ssd, I right clicked on documents and clicked properties, but i can't find location to change it. Location only pops up in my default documents folder outside of my drive. Maybe I did something wrong.

Hey, sorry for the late reply. You should be able to launch it like normal. If you don't have your saves and mods are available when you launch the game, then you have to disconnect onedrive.

Hey, you should put any mods you want to function in game in your mods folder. So if your mod folder is on D drive then that's where they should go.

Hi, it's not stupid at all. You have to do it this it way because it lets your system know that this is the new location you want your documents to be saved to and read from. Otherwise, it'll be just a backup that wont be treated as your documents. I hope this makes sense.

Hey, so I haven't moved my game to an external drive yet. According to EA and other simmers that have switched, the game will load faster on an SSD type drive. So you'll have to decide whether it sounds like a good move.
If you know you're going to use a lot of mods, I do recommend moving your documents folder over to your external drive.

No problem! 😊 Currently, I'm trying to organize my stuff into CAS and build mode CC. Technically, the more files and folders your game has to read, the slower it gets.
None of your cc items are showing in build mode?? If that's the case and you have better build buy TMEX, then make sure you ticked the custom content box in build mode settings.

If the external drive has space for your a copy of docs folder and the one that'll be connected to your external drive, then you can copy it to your external drive to a folder called 'documents - copy' or whatever name that will help you remember. Otherwise, just try to make a backup of the really important stuff and use cloud storage accounts like Dropbox or Google Drive.

Aside from clearing space on the drive, would you recommend the transfer anyway to a SSD drive because it would make the game faster if you have mods (or is there no difference)?
If your game is already on an ssd, then it probably won't make a difference. I feel like my game loaded faster when I 1st transferred over, but then I just bogged it down again with more mods and cc.

Hey! Right-click on the folder you want to delete and go to properties. If it's the same as the drive you just moved it to then leave it alone.

It’s not working because whenever I check if my mods work on the sims tray thing or just adds the EA folder thing back in my personal tab
So Onedrive will sometimes replace your normal documents folder. This is usually the path C:\Users\Public\Documents or C:\Users\username\OneDrive\Documents. So check to see if your EA folder is in either of those places, if so use the videos in the pinned comment to unsync and uninstall Onedrive.

Ok. Let's go through the steps, then. Did you use the location tab to move your documents folder? You can't just copy and paste because that won't work.
At 3:45 I show how to see where the game is reading your EA folder from, make a quick save, and see where it's stored.
Are you actually using a hard drive, and is it functioning properly?

Hey, it should be fine to delete. It should go to your recycling bin. You can recover it from there if you see it deleted files from the documents you normally use or delete it to recover the space on your drive.

Hi! If you made a back up and then deleted it, check your recycling bin to make sure the files aren't in there. Otherwise, you'll probably have to unlink/uninstall onedrive as it tends to hold on to files and causes issues for updating mods and moving/deleting files.

Hi! The default for most browsers is to save downloads to your downloads folder. You can change that to whatever you like, though. I wouldn't suggest having all your downloads go to your mods folder, but you can make it so you can choose where your downloads go to.

Hi, I'm not sure about the cracked version. I can tell you that this will only move the mods folder because it moves your documents folder. You may have to reinstall the EA app or change the installation settings in it to wherever you move your sims 4 game & expansions to.

You're welcome! 😊 if there's a folder left on c drive, that usually means that something didn't get copied over. That can happen for a few reasons, usually it's because you have the same folder or file on the new drive.
If you're talking about the folder that appears under This PC, if you check properties, you'll see that it's now connected to your new drive.
If it's a copy of your original documents folder, I recommend keeping a copy somewhere even if it's stored on gdrive. If you have a copy, it should be fine to delete the one on c drive since you can put back the file if you notice something is missing later
You can also check if the leftover files are copies by trying to copy them over to your newly transitioned documents folder.

To better understand you ..once this change is in effect..we put our mods/tray files in the mods folder on the D drive correct ???👀
hey! so whenever i press ok to move the folder into the new one on the drive it says “Can’t move the folder because there is a folder in the same location that can’t be redirected. Access is denied.” do you know how to fix that or what that means?

So I have a Mac book that is out of space, if I buy a hard drive, how much space should I buy? Also do I do these same steps or different steps to move the entire game? I have no CC, I just dont want to lose my current game play.
Hi, if you don't plan on downloading much cc, then you shouldn't need that much space. 1tb or less should be fine. You would have to follow different directions for Mac. I believe you will have to use a link share tutorial.

@@MsAllen730 Oh, well you should just be able to copy your files and then paste them to the drive as a backup. It should be similar to windows, but this video is for moving your game over to another drive.

Just the new drive, unless you made a copy and put it on your c drive.

Hey, I think I have a link in the pinned comment for issues with the location tab. As for your second question, you don't have to enable anything. You are just moving your documents folder to a new drive, and that's the default folder that the sims 4 uses to store game info. That's the great thing about this method!
Hey girl does it still mean it works when the location of my docs file says its in drive D but still shows up in my C drive? It did clear my space up but Im just wondering where Im supposed to download mods directly into now 😭😭
