An absolutely integral part of my lil studio is a PAINTBRUSH. Super helpful for dusting off your synths, and the bristles get into all those nooks and crannies!
I use that gel like stuff (same stuff as kids slime I think), picks up all the dust and doesn’t leave any residue. So you’re not just brushing the dust about.
This channel is the most underrated music production channel there is right now. How do you not have at least 100k subscribers? That doesn't make sense to me. I've been watching you for a while now. 'Been recommending this channel to all my music friends. Keep things going, we all appreciate it a ton! :)
I agree, Ricky’s spot is my new first go-to whenever I want to look into something musical! I didn’t want a Siren until this video, you need more affiliate links up! :)
I really have no idea how I landed here. I don't do music myself but I very much appreciate how passionate you are about it and I enjoy the process of evaluating, what gear to take on the trip. Thank you for taking us along.
By far one of the most fun videos on the channel - the passion is contagious and I'm working to move away from DAW thanks to these vibes. No one staring at a screen has this much fun
Ricky, I've been working on learning about how to utilize my rig for potential live performances in the future and I just wanted to say that I am totally happy to have found your channel. I love the content you put on here and it's extremely helpful and insightful. Thank you so much!
@@RickyTinez I'm at the beginnings of this wonderful journey. I have currently been collecting a few pieces here and there to find those sounds in the hardware that I really want to work with in my music. I'm at a point that I think I'm close to where I want to be at, but I need a few more pieces and maybe you can recommend what can help me out. I'd love a 19 in rack MIDI channel splitter if you have a suggestion. I'm also looking for a solid studio mixer and I think I have found one in an Allen & Heath ZED 16FX unit. As far as the brains? Just my iMac and I will more than likely use my Roland TR-8S as for setting up the tempo/percussion. Otherwise, I just picked up a Arturia KeyStep 37. As I said, I am in the setup stage atm. This seems to be the current popular choice in midi control. The A&H mixer is USB input as to send the stems to my DAW. I'm using Logic Pro atm, but I am thinking of switching back over to Ableton. Not sure on that as of this moment. Needless to say, I have a lot of decisions to make here.
You have single handedly demystified this whole hardware world for me. I went from 5 years of hobby DJing and in the box production to buying all sorts of fun little groove boxes.
This is one of my favourite videos, I keep watching it. Less is more is definitely the right approach. The Siren is so cool, saving my pennies... keep it going Enrique you are an inspiration man! Drum machine, sampler, synth. ✅
I can safely say, this is the best dawless setup/compact creation I've ever seen you play. So incredibly awesome. I'm sitting in a chair, but my ass is dancing either way, I can't stop it haha.
Just binge watching a ton of your videos, wishing I had the gear I now want before quarantine haha. Told the girlfriend about your "see you later oscillator" merch and she responded "in a while audiophile", just thought I would share. Love your stuff man!
Shout out to the section of the video where you had a video in portrait mode from your phone, but you overlaid it ontop of a stock phone to make it look more aesthetically pleasing for youtube. A really nice little detail I appreciated :) Keep up with these dawless videos - I don't make electronic music but I really love watching you play!
I use the TR-08 for rhythm/drums. Love that thing. Sure, it's not analog, but it doesn't need to be to be reliable and intuitive to use. I grew up on the old-school machines back in the day, so the JP-8000, TR-808, TB-303, etc. MIDI cables and patch cables strewn across my and my brothers work space like a couple of crazy scientists, and we'd lose ourselves for hours in that clusterfuckery of insane jam sessions. Man, I miss the late 80's, early 90's.
rad! Give er. My setup is a notation circuit, a few volcas, monologue, a zoom r8 (master clock and 8 track recorder),iphone 6s (gadget) an uni and finally a kp2 mini. All battery powered. Love the portable setups
The problem is if the gear is too rare and it breaks during a gig. In the 90s I had a linn drum 2 break during a gig not fun lol. The circuit is really easy to recover say the ship sinks during a yacht gig, your entire set on the circuit is backed up on the novation cloud the circuit is the only groovebox designed to survive a nuclear war.
Might need to experiment with a similar setup. Just recently got a circuit and it is far more powerful than I had blindly assumed before trying one out.
You can get a Sub Phatty for the same price now. If that had been so when I got my Sirin...well, I probably still would've gotten the Sirin because of its size, but I would've been conflicted. I do think the Sirin sounds better though.
Have you ever done small gigs where you need your own PA system? Not many artists on TH-cam talk about it. An episode on PA setup would be really helpful.
Just got a Novation Circuit in part thanks to watching your compact creations and Minimal Setups. Wanted to share that my Minimal Setup is just a Novation Circuit with a Yamaha Reface CP. I use the aux input in the CP so that eliminates the need for a mixer and since they're both battery operated that eliminates the need for power cables!
Damn that’s a solid setup! What midi implementation is on the Yamaha? Can you send midi out to circuit and record the data into a track and have the same track send it back?! Basically acting as a midi looper
@@RickyTinez Yes you can! You can turn local control off and that'll do the trick. Unfortunately you cannot change channels or local control on the fly. You must turn it off and on. If you wanted to do something like that the Reface CP can do it
I love watching these videos, Ricky. They help me to focus on what's important. I, too, have quite a lot of different bits of gear which are all connected up but sometimes it's just too much, with too many choices. I have enjoyed the idea of just choosing two or three bits and jamming with them just to see where it goes. It's been a lot of fun! Best of luck with the show in London. Sure you'll just smash it!
These videos have been really interesting insights. I'm in a process of trying to figurie out with what and how could I perform live as I've been getting some inquiries about the possibility to do so. I make my music in a very live-unfriendly manner, so I kinda lack the possibility atm. All my gear are connected to my effects and mixers and such and most of my devices aren't really that live-friendly to begin with. I don't want to get into the unplug-plug back affair as I want my studio to be in a shape of "just do it", when the inspiration strikes. That said, I've been toying with several ideas: maybe building a live-dj-set inside Traktor, having loop ques, special live-dj-versions of my tracks, playing samples and fills etc. on top inside the Traktor. And Traktor woudl run on laptop with touch screen (and/or with proper controller). Another idea would be building a live set from my tracks, but that not sure it would be that awesome. I mean: I use Cubase for production, but it really isn't live friendly software. That would mean I would need to probably use Live with some proper controller and get used to a bit different workflow. But somehow I hadn't thought about the idea of building the set inside a sampler. But then again... would anything else do than Octatrack, if I want to have a continuous set with ONE device, two at the tops? And I'm not that keen on getting an Octatrack. Somehow it just doesn't feel that lucrative and it isn't exactly cheap either (I'm also not into used markets). I have the Digitakt, but that isn't alone suitable for my idea... but maybe, if I'd get some other sampler to accompany my DT and a dj-style mixer in the middle. Well, thanks for the inspiration. As said: really interesting insights. I really dig the thinking aloud parts of these videos. :)
Dude your channel is sick. I've been stuck in abletonland for years now and know basically nothing about hardware setups like this, so like 50% of everything you are saying goes way over my head but I still love it lol
Very useful to know. Watched your other videos. Back in the day, I lugged synths, samplers, drum machines around. It seems less gear is needed these days. Nobody seems to mention the Yamaha RM1X as a 'live' sequencer. I've just replaced the floppy with a emulator. I suspect, I'll have to update the OS to the latest.

My pleasure 😉. I actually have a question for you. I don’t know if you will have time to answer but I try my luck. I want to purchase a device where I can produce some beat /song on the road as I’m going to travel for work. I will not have my laptop with ableton and I considering the novation circuit or maybe the model cycles. What do you think about these and would you recommend some others one (on the same budget I’m not rich unfortunately 🤣)

Everything spoken here are golden rules . No shit. “Samplers are the future !” is what Bob Moog said to me at NAMM while demonstrating the fair light system. Quote “You can buy a bunch of expensive hardware. Or you can walk into a place that sells it with a tape deck and sample all the stuff you can’t afford to maintain by chopping it into a song and maybe mastering for vinyl. But at that point it’s much easier to transport and maintain. And that has turned out to be true. And is why sound design is my drive to this day. Peace Christo 🐕👽🛸🎶☮️
That sounds great, and I think I'll have to give that circuit another look, I've just dismissed it as a fun groovebox, but that seems more powerful than I gave it credit for.
3:50 I think i see that novation launchcontrol XL in the background. I got that too. Really like the quality feel of it! I want something exactly like that - only that it is organized in a way that fits with a standardized synth layout, with a separate section for envelopes and oscillator stuff and "all that jazz". I guess it is difficult to make such a controller that works for all the software synths out there, and as i have never seen such a controller, i think im gonna have to make one myself. I have very limited knowledge about electronics, so i just hoping it will not be too difficult or expensive to make such a controller with a USB output that can handle all the stuff i would need to make a custom controller for Massive - or perhaps my own custom Reaktor synth; as i LOVE being able to add some nice analog emulations and modifiers to ALL the parameters i want it for - and not be limited like on most software and hardware :P
Dope! Real authentic NY vibes. Such a laid back energy, personal and direct approach to the musical journey. + grooving to that old skool soulful house. Question: You compared the Siren and the 303 as performance and studio synths, would you go with the Siren or DB-01 for a good balance of raw experimental live with workhorse range and flexibility? Much respect.
Glad you didn't take the modular. It's a little more fragile for travel. More points of failure. If you need to find a replacement, the Moog is a lot easier to replace in London.
I find I'd always need rock solid behaviour and so the MPC was always my brain, sequencing everything and playing drum samples while I did live fills with another drum machine. That said, I'd also travel with effects so I could break out of all the channels separately and into a desk. so everything can be tweaked and fedback on itself. I don't think it's unreasonable for hosts to provide a 16 channel desk and jack leads if you're traveling distance. Equally though, traveling light would be great!
That swing made me wiggle uncontrollably, taping my feet, thats crazy fluent swingy mix/jam. Just forces you to move, it's incredible! Keep up that work
I wish you’d vlog more about traveling to gigs and stuff. You’re living the dream of many of us! Hope you have fun in my old home country!

Watching you from Japan. Wish you the best at your show! BREAK A LEG!
Holy smokes that was incredible, especially the jamming. Wow!
Glad you didn't take the modular. It's a little more fragile for travel. More points of failure. If you need to find a replacement, the Moog is a lot easier to replace in London.
Was meant to be in LDN this week but it got bumped to next. Have a good one, I'll get to hear you in real life one day, lol!
Amazing! I Loved this setup it was so inspiring. Thanks
Best of luck. Enjoy London!
Freeeddaaaa😂😂😂She smiled when you said turn the filter😁😍I love that dog
That last track is sick! Will it be released anytime soon?
Best part of video is Frieda!! Ok tutorial was good too!!
Equally though, traveling light would be great!
bass during the jam so sick :o
Damn...keep grooving, brother!
Have safe trip!🙏
The last track you played was DOPE!
That swing made me wiggle uncontrollably, taping my feet, thats crazy fluent swingy mix/jam. Just forces you to move, it's incredible! Keep up that work
Baseck is the Best!
