    Been watching your videos for a while, but man, it is so nice seeing someone show off workflows for making music, as opposed to just rundowns the newest hardware release. I get way more value and inspiration from seeing someone build up something musical from scratch from just a group of instruments you have sitting around. One video I would love to see is how you manage samples, since really getting started with that seems a bit daunting to me.

    I decided to finally get an Octatrack. I’ve learned how to mangle loops so far with slices. I know this is going to be a long learning curve, but I’m familiar with Elektron workflow. I am going to watch all your videos on this machine to learn how to use this. I’m working towards my first live set when things open back up in Detroit. I’m going to run the Blackbox with a midi fighter for live performance functions like filters, the Digi for the drums, and Octatrack as a mixer/live looper.
    Thanks for all the cool vids

    I'm trying to source power distribution from a single box. There's a bunch of power distro for guitar pedals, most of my gear is like the Octatrack (12volt). Then I wouldn't even need a power squid. Also looking for the right case that will hold Octa, A4, TR8S, avalon, k-mix and possibly laptop (looking at gun cases). Mentioning what I'm looking for, because it seems like you'd benefit from the same tools. Making gear easier to gather and travel...

    • @isaac.anthony
      @isaac.anthony 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I also use a battery pack than can power all my gear for over an hour, so if the power goes out or gets yanked, my gear is still working...

I had been pondering between an oktatrack and circuit or getting an akai force for a few weeks and this as well as your other vid on the setup pushed me in this direction. @@RickyTinez My only concern at this point (before actually having them on site) is that the circuit might not be a long term solution for drums/bass.
      I suspect though that it will more than suffice for a good while given the bits of performances and routing that you've shown.

    Love the setup. Question, with the mod case on the left of the Octatrack as scene A, can you set up another mod case on the Right side and have that as scene B? Clock both and crossfade between them like a DJ does with records? and maybe save scenes for each, like changing vinyl/songs on turntables to play a set? Hopefully, that makes sense.

That's really neat that you have what you want in that little form-factor. And I can already feel the itch to make one. Hey man, did you notice any difference in audio quality between the OT MkI and MkII? I'm thinking about switching from a DT to an OT Mk2 but I remember from one of your video that the Octatrack has a slightly darker sound, is it still the case? I love the DT crystal clear sound

    • @amberdean1263

      I've been a Digitakt owner for 6 months and just picked up the OT Mk2... as long as you keep the Octatrack in 24-bit mode (it defaults to 16-bit) it sounds super clean. But I will say that the effects are super dated and some of them sound downright awful. And the timestretch algorithm gets super grainy and lo-fi very quickly. I love the workflow and the sound of the Digitakt so I won't be selling it, but will instead use it as a supplement to the OT.

    Heeyy Rick,
    First off, great content! I’m really learning a lot from your video’s :) Always easy to follow and highly informative!
    I’m about to receive my Octatrack mk2 (hyped!!1!1!) but I have two questions about the set up. I’ve searched everywhere for the answer, but can’t seem to find one for my specific situation (or I just don’t get it) and really want to make sure before I damage anything in my setup. Also in this video you fast-forward the part where I have a question about haha.
    1. On the website from Elektron it says it has 2 x 1/4” impedance balanced main outputs; does that mean I can use two 1/4” ts cables to connect it to a stereo input on my Allen & Heath Zed 12 FX? Or do I have to use balanced cables/adapters/or something else? I’ve been running my DT (I only recently discovered it has two balanced outs) also with two 1/4” ts cables and have no issues with noise or what so ever.
    2. Also I would love your opinion and thoughts on how to audio route my setup when I recieve the OT. I have a Allen & Heath Zed 12 FX mixer, DT, Minilogue XD, Mother 32 (the last one I use almost all the time with a distortion pedal) and a guitar (I’m really stoked to be able to live loop with that one on the OT). I’m planning on running the Mother through the OT and maybe DT or XD?? I don’t want to lose to many tracks on the OT since I also want to use it as a sampler and what not. I would really like to hear your thoughts on this. If you feel like this is something I have to find out for myself I get that, but I would love to get an answer on the output-question!
    Keep up the good work with spreading knowledge! ^^ Peace

    • @oekhrevatin145
      @oekhrevatin145 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Edit: I’ve found the answer to question 1! Either ts or trs is what the manual says (been looking to much at forums where they all say something different). What do you use and doe you notice any difference in gain level and noise?

    Can you do most of this with the Octatrack mk1 as well? It seems like you'd be able to but I'm not sure.

      yes…it can do all the same things, some things just require button combos.
      Go for the mk1 it's a bargain ;)

    As always, great peak into your work flow! I would love to know your impressions of your Digitone Keys once you familiarize yourself with it. Is it worth the price premium over the Digitone? Thanks!
