  • In this video, I walk you through how to assemble and sew the Colby Sling Pack by UhOh Creations and share some tips and tricks along the way. This video is filmed like a sew along. If you don't want to watch the part where I sew, or am doing other things, you can always fast forward or adjust the speed of the video, so it is faster. However, there are times I give tips and tricks while sewing. I figured filling in some of those moments with some helpful information, makes it a bit more interesting to watch.
Also to note, I do not give any measurements, show pattern pieces or use any measuring tools on camera, in any tutorials I film. This is for the protection of the pattern/designer and also because I often film tutorials during testing and measurements or other things can change. So, to ensure the tutorials are accurate and match with the pattern, I don't give this information. You will need to have your pattern open on another device, printed or on your computer, to follow along with each step and be able to refer to measurements or seam allowances given. If you have the video open on your computer and want to also have the pattern PDF open on your computer, you can minimize this TH-cam video and move it to a corner on your screen, it'll be smaller but, you can still see it and have the pattern open as well.
The machine I sewed this bag on is a Juki TL-2200 QVP Mini and I used Schmetz Microtex 90/14 needle. This bag is made out of Soft Vinyl and quilting cotton for the exterior, and quilting cotton for the lining. For threads I used Tex 45 Thread. You'll want to use the needle, materials and threads that work best for your machine.
If you have any questions, please reach out to the designer, Tara, through her email provided in the pattern. You can also leave comments below and I will reply as soon as I can. To note, I don't always get notifications, which means I may not see them for a while after they are left. Due to this, if it is extremely important and you're needing help right away, please do email the designer.
I'm looking forward to seeing all your beautiful Colby Sling Pack made and posted on social media!

Can I use a #5 zipper instead of the #3, and how would I adjust- just deeper SA?

You could use a #5 zipper. However, you will need to use a bigger seam allowance, so 1/8" bigger. 😊

Understitching that top edge before birthing the bag will go a long way to helping that top edge be nice without the lining peeking above the edge

I followed the pattern as the designer has written. I don't like to change the pattern when filming because I know people use these tutorials to follow along with as the pattern is written, when making their bags. Due to this being a drawstring style bag, you will see the lining peeking out no matter what, unless you use the same fabric for the lining. However, I do like the contrast of colour peeking out. 😃

So I am at step 8, and my sides are an inch too short :-( I have checked the scale on the pattern piece and it is exactly an inch ??? My main is the correct length. How did this happen? I reprinted the pattern piece. I am printing from adobe and at 100%, the piece for the side is the same size. So now do I just make new sides or cut down my other pieces to match?? I am frustrated as I don't have loads of time and was in the groove...moving along nicely. ((I am not a novice. I usually do know what I am doing this is baffling me....))

Sorry for the delayed reply, we had a family emergency and I've been offline and focusing on my family during this time. You can email the designer Tara, at the email given in the pattern. She will definitely be able to assist you further. 😊

Wow, that's a bummer. I hope you got it worked out. Can you please post here what actually happened so I don't make the same "detour". I'm sure your bag turned out beautifully. Thanks!

@@kschallert3569So I have no idea what caused this. I reprinted the pieces, and it was still "off." I just ended up remaking them. What is odd is that the scale is correct. It was exactly an inch. I have printed patterns since this and prior to and have had no issues so not sure what is the issue. I guess I will start measuring my pieces before sewing on patterns that provide measurements...

Something that comes to mind, when you opened and printed them, did you use a computer or a tablet/phone? Adobe? I know it may sound strange but for some reason when we print from anything other than a computer, they don't print correctly. Also, if you print from the download and don't open in Adobe to print, it will show as your 1" square can be right but the pieces are wrong (this also happens when I've printed from my phone). Technology is fun sometimes, lol.

Also, sorry you had this issue. 😢 Did you get to email Tara?
