  • You can do your own soil analysis to analyze the composition of the soil and the type of soil at your property or the property your are interested in. USDA has made many resources available online for free for you to use. Many thing to consider when buying farmland are: soil type, soil profile including any hardpan, pH level of soil, salt content in soil and in water for irrigation, NPK composition in the soil, Secondary elements and minerals in the soil, and last use of pesticides on the land.

I have learned 1/3 of arable land has been devastated by soil erosion and that it can be rehabilitated by compost! Highly recommend the documentary Symphony of the Soil to any person interested in no dig, compost powered farming and gardening!

Also try mixing some strong aromatic herbs like peppermint, basil or dill with your crops, some parasites really hate these and will avoid neighboring plants as well. You can either plant them in rows in between your main harvest or as a perimeter "fence" or even randomly spread some seeds here and there on the entire surface (depends mostly on what's your main harvest and how you're weeding it). They don't take much space, won't impede your other bio defense measures and can yield a small harvest of their own (they may not have much commercial value, but are quite useful around the house).

We are working on Organic Certification right now, so will be making a video on it after it is done highlighting the whole process. Basically you start with your local agency that provides the certification, here in California its CCOF.

As i was out of town .. now they’ve started flowering in the 8 inch pots ... i have transplanted them all in ground . But was wondering if this would hurt my plants . Sorry this is my first year gardening. Just brought a place with some gardening area .

Hi Jag. Great videos!! 1st: Does the hydrogen peroxide you spray on the foliage prevent beneficial insects as well as fungus and bacteria on sick and infested plants? I’m having problems with this white sort of fluffy type parasite. Moves super slowly and seems to grow on the roots as well. Also, These tiny little flies which I think are laying their eggs and their offspring are a multitude. Both of these are ruining the foliage & prevents my plants from growing because of it. Been using dish soap and water for this foliage but it’s not getting rid of them permanently they keep coming back. I believe it’s from the plants that are around my apartments on at the city streets. I don’t want to use anything that’s going to prevent good insects to come and pollinate or feed off of the flowers. Are for to prevent the hummingbirds or harm them in anyway videos are so easy to understand and so informative they’re the best I’ve seen. I especially appreciate the knowledge you possess and graciously share! TY! As I get older I’m realizing the importance of maintaining a healthier body lies mainly in what I put into it. Avoiding less processed foods eating more fresh vegetables and fruits, and consuming foods That have less toxins and preservatives brought me to learn to do my own gardening. In California, I have a 3rd floor apartment with a huge balcony. A novice at gardening I began with herbs. Mostly to repel mosquitoes. And learning to do essential oil’s. And now I’m working on my first blackberry blueberry strawberry ‘mini crops’.
