An interesting question in a support email made us stumble upon a super easy way to hook up to Solo direct. If you've got a practise amp kicking around, see if it has USB, it might be the best, fastest way to get practising with perfect note recognition!
Glad you found this out too! I'm really amazed at how seamless it is with these amps. I think the single input really cuts out a lot of the faff and problem solving.
I tried to use it through the Fender GT40, which has a micro-USB connection, but ran into problems that I believe are specific to that amp and the iPhone (a known glitch to do with usb power settings). I solved this by running the guitar cable into an iRig HD2 and then running a cable out from that into the amp. The iRig HD2 has “Thru” setting that allows it to act as a monitor, sending digital signal through a lightening connection to the iPhone while allowing the regular signal from the guitar to pass though to the amp. The only downside, other having to pay for the iRig HD2, is a slight degradation in sound quality relative to using a direct guitar-to-amp connection. Note that this solution would work with any amp that lacks a proper (or properly functioning) USB out. Note also that the GT40 usb glitch supposedly has other less pricy solutions that I admittedly could have have investigated further before turning to buying the iRig HD2. Hope somebody finds this helpful.
Thank you for sharing this! I do have the iRig HD2 already, so I was hoping I can buy this app and try it with the iRig. My other option is to buy the Focusrite Scarlett 4i4 (which I already had my eye on anyway).
@@pmb6667 I looked at the Focusrite but although it solves the digital USB out part, I couldn’t figure out how I could simultaneously send signal to my amp. While traveling, and working without a physical amp, I’ve been plugging my iRig HD2 into my iPhone to run both Solo and JamUp (iPhone amp software; presumably Amplitube, etc would work too) simultaneously. It works well. I put JamUp into “background audio mode” and then switch to the Solo app. This means I can listen via the headphone out on the iRig, plugging in either headphones or a suitable speaker.
@@willv2747 Thank you for your input! I did try the iRig with Solo as you described and it works perfectly! Another thing I tried was I also have a mini VOX Bass headphone amp and plugged that into the iRig and it works great too -- no big amp or other software other than just Solo. So I can go anywhere travelling with that as well. I'm so happy I can now use Solo without buying anything else for it -- and not even needing the bigger amp. Thanks again for your sharing. I'd have never thought of the iRig if you hadn't mentioned it!
The Katana isn’t class compliant on IOS/Mac so wasn’t able to get it to connect with solo ? I confirmed this by switching on my digitech drop pedal and putting the amp in standby mode so the speaker was off, Solo was still picking up the string noise though the phone mic rather than the detuned signal from the usb connection. I switched back to my Focusrite 2i2 and I then had to adjust the fretted note for the detune before solo accepted it as the correct note. So I’m not sure how you have managed to get it to work in the video?
Hmm this could be a mistake on my part then, although calibration failed when plugged in and playing acoustically as it should. I’ll double check again and see what’s going on. You’re right, it shouldn’t work though! I’ll update the video, thanks for letting me know!
You don't even need a USB amp. I got a cheapo guitar to USB cable and a dongle for USB to my phone's USB-c. I connect my guitar to my amp like normal, and I connect the converter cable through the headphone/recording jack to my phone. That way, I get to hear myself while the audio is piped into the app as well. This was for Android, for what it's worth. Not sure how it'd work with Apple.
Wouldn’t anyone who had a line 6 powercab usually have a helix and could just go in to the USB on that? Unless the helix’s usb is permanently used to go to your desktop (as an audio interface)
Audio interfaces will be supported in the Android version, however there will be less guarantees as there’s just far too many variables to test everything.
@@SoloApp will this utilise a usb otg (on the go) cable? I ask this as I wondered how you'd implement this on Android and that's the best I could find in my brief bit of research!

That neural DSP powercab looks tight
Also, the pick drop was hilarious for some reason!
Haha, what a spot! but it wasn't a guitar pick - it was a plaster/band aid. Got a cat bite on my palm from a grumpy kitteh that didn't want bath time!
The good thing about all the random problems I had with the focusrite solo is my discovery that my katana works over usb audio with solo.

Works great on the Yamaha THR10II !
Good to know!
Vox Adio Air GT also works great with the solo app! Connected via CCK.
Keep it up! This is great stuff!
Oh yes, plenty more to come!
Awesome! gonna try this with the Yamaha THRII
Great! Let us know how you get on :) thanks

Yep, although I think that is exactly the scenario the user was in.
