You are right. Kinda sounds like they made the one human with "dialog" (to put it lightly) in the movie to get back to the monsters. It was as if they looked at the completed monster battles and realized they need breaks from the fights and put dialog there. I wanted to see monsters fight and I did but it was hard to tell what was going on a lot of the time, things just seemed out of place and there was always rain or snow or something stopping me from seeing the fights properly. And the human aspect of the movie... I wasn’t really bothered about it going in but it was so bad. I was bored. Shame. I was really looking forward to this movie.
I liked Godzilla 2014, but this was the Godzilla movie I had always wanted to see in theatres. From Godzilla fighting Ghidorah to THE RETURN OF GODZILLA'S THEME MUSIC!!!, I loved it.
What worries me the most is how Jeremy describes the way the action's shot. The "messy fight sequences" and all that. That makes me think of the Bay Transformers movies' action sequences and I don't like that.

The human element is always the worst part of the films, aside from the original movie which had 8 minutes of Godzilla for the 96 minute runtime and focused solely on the human aspect reacting to Godzilla, much like the 2014 remake. After that, the movies literally just became giant monster fights/sloppy military element, but now it's a problem? I guess it's only when 'Murica does it.

If you're not, well it's like going to a romantic comedy when you aren't a fan of romantic comedies. Aron 2018 That is not necessarily true. Shin Gojira and Gojira 1954 were in part interesting not just because they showed Godzilla destroying stuff, but because they also showed how the humans reacted to them. However, this movie doesn’t necessarily need this either because it doesn’t seem to be focusing on the horror elements of godzilla at least based on the trailers. This movie seems more action oriented.

When you could see them. They took place at night and then were covered in smoke but when there was wide shots of both monsters it was fucking gorgeous. Then it cuts away to the humans doing dumbass shit while the fight happens in the background

The fact that he didn’t grow up with Godzilla says it all. This movie was a movie for the true Godzilla fans. It paid homage to the old school Toho films with not only using those monsters, but intertwining their orchestra themes into the soundtrack. Also, they stayed loyal to what these monsters meant in the worlds balance. The best part of these movies are the fights, which were incredibly well done in this movie. If you want to see monsters fighting, you’ll love this movie.
The critics saw another cut, because i just saw the movie and there are more human scenes that godzilla or other monsters fighting. Its more like the director or executives got cold feet on putting the focus only on the fights which are cockblocked by human sub-plot, close-ups, Shaky cam, low light and rain.

Same, but to Jeremy's credit, I believe he has said before that he was never a child of Godzilla growing up, so he doesn't really have that kind of attachment to the series. He hesitated to do a review to the first trailer for KotM for this exact reason: he's not an expert, and he knows that. I think this is just a case where this is very much a movie made for the hardcore fans of Godzilla. Jeremy isn't one of them, so he was left wanting more, but those fans will be getting exactly what they wanted and MORE.

Man I don't know who pissed in Jahns' & Stuckmann's Gojira cereal, but I just got out of the Chinese Theater first IMAX showing and... BOW DOWN TO THE KING! GODZILLA:KoTM fully satisfied me and all the other cheering & clapping Godzilla fans where that crowd definitely felt Godzilla KoTM did it's job... Hats off to Mike Dougherty! He did a fantastic job with the look, the setpieces, the geography, the cast/Gojira & ALL the Toho Monsters! (King Ghidorah kicks ass!), the Bear McCreary score is great, the franchise deep cuts for diehards were perfect...loved it! DEFINITELY see this on the biggest screen you can, like any movie of this genre - Pacific Rim, Godzilla '14, Kong: Skull Island - it demands the power of IMAX :)

Jeremy stating that he didn't grow up with Godzilla honestly explains everything about this review. Humans being the main focus of EVERY previous Godzilla movie has been the biggest criticism of every Godzilla movie since Godzilla fans don't give a shit about human drama that can be seen on literally any other movie/show on any channel; they want to see over-the-top crazy fanservice monster battles since that's the entire premise of Godzilla and the best damn thing about it. The fact that he states that this movie has a lot of Godzilla and not much humans explains why audiences love it; it's the first (and possibly only) time an American movie actually made a Godzilla movie focused on kaiju monster fighting instead of generic human story drama with Godzilla and the Kaijus as background characters. The entire selling point of Godzilla is mindless monster-on-monster action. It's not supposed to be deep, philosophical, or smart because it's impossible to make Kaiju fighting any of those since Godzilla as a premise is supposed to be self-aware of that to a certain extent (hence why the kaijus are so hilariously over-the-top insanely designed).

I dont get how a godzilla fan could love this movie where literally every battle was brief close ups for 30 seconds then cuts back to humans for 2 mins while you kind of see the battle going on in the background. The only cool wide shots from the battles were all in the trailer and all last a couple seconds each. And when you expect to see all the monsters ravage the earth in the middle of the film you see it for maybe 1 min and then theres 45 mins of people talking instead. So to say, Godzilla fans dont care about human drama, but this movie was all about the human drama. The battles were just a backdrop for a family dispute and thats so disappointing. Like how many times in the final battle did it just cut away just as things were getting interesting and its back to generic family and stranger things girl running around some more. Sure its a Godzilla movie with more Godzilla, but it was done in such a crappy way. Godzilla literally loses 2 times in the movie and at the end he only wins because the humans use their crappy machine to give him time to use his special attack. How does that make him anything close to the king of the monsters?! Thats the point hes making in this review and i think hes right.

They nailed the monsters in this, they all had personality and the fights were great! Story was decent but not the most important part of the film so I didn't mind.

Exactly. Godzilla movies are, simply put, meant to be fun. Kinda like the “What If” comics Marvel used to put out years ago. A simple creation of love for fans of the genre. So whenever I see a critic dislike a film like this, then I know they went into the theater expecting it to be something it was never supposed to be. If you didn’t grow up with Godzilla, then it doesn’t surprise me when you aren’t a fan. After all the forced politics being shoved down my throat, in today’s films, I need stuff like this to exist. The nostalgia alone is something I appreciate.

"Monsters fight, and there's kinda a plot around it" Jeremy, that what a Godzilla movie IS. The plot usually involves a lot of military scenes, scenes with twins fairies singing, and a scientist. That's the boring parts. Whatever. I don't care anymore. After Got and the upcoming star wars, and this, I'm just looking for new favorite things.
The toho Godzilla films benefit from the costumes and practical effects though, that's part of their charm. And all of the zany and cheesy parts make it funny and enjoyable. This is different, prolonged CGI does slowly start to wear on the impact of the spectacle. And based on the 2014 version and the trailers for this, the human aspects look like they're trying to be taken seriously.
Literally no one said that though, they said that even though Godzilla is in this film a lot more, none of the fights are anything spectacular or well directed.
Final Wars is one of the funniest/best movies I've seen. If you ever want to introduce friends to the big G in a fun way, get some beer and turn on Final Wars.

Steven Lornie i would argue that’s incorrect. There’s only like 5 out of the 32 movies that have plots with depth. The rest are cheesy monster fights, because they thought it would sell better and they tried a bunch of different ones. The serious ones would be 54, Godzilla 80, Godzilla vs Biolante, and Shin.
Godzilla's "Kiss of Death" and his first roar is still the best of both these movies. Love when Mothra came out evolved though that was beautiful not gonna lie.

You are right. Kinda sounds like they made the one human with "dialog" (to put it lightly) in the movie to get back to the monsters. It was as if they looked at the completed monster battles and realized they need breaks from the fights and put dialog there.

I wanted to see monsters fight and I did but it was hard to tell what was going on a lot of the time, things just seemed out of place and there was always rain or snow or something stopping me from seeing the fights properly. And the human aspect of the movie... I wasn’t really bothered about it going in but it was so bad. I was bored. Shame. I was really looking forward to this movie.

Shit I didn't realise we were coming to see Godzilla movies for the human characters now, I must have missed something. I joke, but, I really don't get why humans and their plot being not that good is a problem, you'd think nobody has seen a Godzilla movie before. The human element is always the worst part of the films, aside from the original movie which had 8 minutes of Godzilla for the 96 minute runtime and focused solely on the human aspect reacting to Godzilla, much like the 2014 remake. After that, the movies literally just became giant monster fights/sloppy military element, but now it's a problem? I guess it's only when 'Murica does it.

He basically called it at the start. If you are a huge Godzilla fan and of the older movies, you are going to love this movie. Shin Gojira and Gojira 1954 were in part interesting not just because they showed Godzilla destroying stuff, but because they also showed how the humans reacted to them. However, this movie doesn’t necessarily need this either because it doesn’t seem to be focusing on the horror elements of godzilla at least based on the trailers. This movie seems more action oriented.

Serizawas death scene is easily one of the best scenes this year, from the acting, music and special effects. None of the monsterverse films yet have a scene more heartfelt and deep as this. I'm confused right now.
As a Godzill fan that has seen nearly every Godzilla movie, all I want to see are monsters kicking the shit out of each other. The stories have always been pretty bad.
While I've always loved the stories in a lot of the G-Man's movies. It's the monster fights I look forward to the most.

The fact that he didn’t grow up with Godzilla says it all. This movie was a movie for the true Godzilla fans. It paid homage to the old school Toho films with not only using those monsters, but intertwining their orchestra themes into the soundtrack. Also, they stayed loyal to what these monsters meant in the worlds balance. The best part of these movies are the fights, which were incredibly well done in this movie. If you want to see monsters fighting, you’ll love this movie.

The critics saw another cut, because i just saw the movie and there are more human scenes that godzilla or other monsters fighting. Same, but to Jeremy's credit, I believe he has said before that he was never a child of Godzilla growing up, so he doesn't really have that kind of attachment to the series. He hesitated to do a review to the first trailer for KotM for this exact reason: he's not an expert, and he knows that.
I think this is just a case where this is very much a movie made for the hardcore fans of Godzilla. Jeremy isn't one of them, so he was left wanting more, but those fans will be getting exactly what they wanted and MORE.

As a Godzilla fan, I loved this film. It gave us more monster action and a great expansion of the MonsterVerse.
Only 17% of the runtime was dedicated to monsters, look it up. Over 80% of this movie was bullshit expository dialogue about the "orca". Off rip the mother's plan makes no sense lmaooo. We're gonna free them and let them rid this planet of cancer (which is us) but we're gonna release them at our own pace/desire while trying to communicate and control them with this man made device...

BOW DOWN TO THE KING! GODZILLA:KoTM fully satisfied me and all the other cheering & clapping Godzilla fans where that crowd definitely felt Godzilla KoTM did it's job...
Hats off to Mike Dougherty! He did a fantastic job with the look, the setpieces, the geography, the cast/Gojira & ALL the Toho Monsters! (King Ghidorah kicks ass!), the Bear McCreary score is great, the franchise deep cuts for diehards were perfect...loved it!
DEFINITELY see this on the biggest screen you can, like any movie of this genre - Pacific Rim, Godzilla '14, Kong: Skull Island - it demands the power of IMAX :)

Just saw Godzilla: King of the Monsters in IMAX last night and it was AWESOME!!! Jeremy, really?!?!?! That was an excellent movie dude!! It was way better than 2014 Godzilla, which also was excellent. It's ok bro, you're still my favorite movie critic, but JEEZ!!

Jeremy stating that he didn't grow up with Godzilla honestly explains everything about this review. Humans being the main focus of EVERY previous Godzilla movie has been the biggest criticism of every Godzilla movie since Godzilla fans don't give a shit about human drama that can be seen on literally any other movie/show on any channel; they want to see over-the-top crazy fanservice monster battles since that's the entire premise of Godzilla and the best damn thing about it.
The fact that he states that this movie has a lot of Godzilla and not much humans explains why audiences love it; it's the first (and possibly only) time an American movie actually made a Godzilla movie focused on kaiju monster fighting instead of generic human story drama with Godzilla and the Kaijus as background characters. The entire selling point of Godzilla is mindless monster-on-monster action. It's not supposed to be deep, philosophical, or smart because it's impossible to make Kaiju fighting any of those since Godzilla as a premise is supposed to be self-aware of that to a certain extent (hence why the kaijus are so hilariously over-the-top insanely designed).
Trust me the fucking "characters" in the movie are so annoying it almost ruins it

I dont get how a godzilla fan could love this movie where literally every battle was brief close ups for 30 seconds then cuts back to humans for 2 mins while you kind of see the battle going on in the background. The only cool wide shots from the battles were all in the trailer and all last a couple seconds each. And when you expect to see all the monsters ravage the earth in the middle of the film you see it for maybe 1 min and then theres 45 mins of people talking instead. So to say, Godzilla fans dont care about human drama, but this movie was all about the human drama. The battles were just a backdrop for a family dispute and thats so disappointing. Like how many times in the final battle did it just cut away just as things were getting interesting and its back to generic family and stranger things girl running around some more. Sure its a Godzilla movie with more Godzilla, but it was done in such a crappy way. Godzilla literally loses 2 times in the movie and at the end he only wins because the humans use their crappy machine to give him time to use his special attack. How does that make him anything close to the king of the monsters?! Thats the point hes making in this review and i think hes right.

Exactly. Godzilla movies are, simply put, meant to be fun. Kinda like the “What If” comics Marvel used to put out years ago. A simple creation of love for fans of the genre. So whenever I see a critic dislike a film like this, then I know they went into the theater expecting it to be something it was never supposed to be. If you didn’t grow up with Godzilla, then it doesn’t surprise me when you aren’t a fan. After all the forced politics being shoved down my throat, in today’s films, I need stuff like this to exist. The nostalgia alone is something I appreciate.

The toho Godzilla films benefit from the costumes and practical effects though, that's part of their charm. And all of the zany and cheesy parts make it funny and enjoyable. This is different, prolonged CGI does slowly start to wear on the impact of the spectacle. And based on the 2014 version and the trailers for this, the human aspects look like they're trying to be taken seriously.

The rest are cheesy monster fights, because they thought it would sell better and they tried a bunch of different ones. The serious ones would be 54, Godzilla 80, Godzilla vs Biolante, and Shin.
Most Kaiju fans has been waiting for a movie that features our daddy Gojiras and other kaijus fighting and wrecking shit up. And we finally got it.
Godzilla's "Kiss of Death" and his first roar is still the best of both these movies. Love when Mothra came out evolved though that was beautiful not gonna lie.
