After Deep Blue Sea taught us that even the smartest shark flick can be incredibly dumb, Deep Blue Sea 2 came... decades later, to show us that no, not all good things come to those who wait. That did open the door for even more sequels though, which we have with 2020's Deep Blue Sea 3. A tale of... sharks. They're kinda smart, and they eat people. Why do I feel like we've seen this all before?

I remember when Deep Blue Sea first came out, I was really into it as a kid. I looked up things about it online and originally there was talk of a sequel called "Deep Red Sea". I think Decker might've mentioned this or maybe I'm imagining it. But the original sequel was suppose to follow Preacher and his family. At the end of the first movie he asked "Was it really just three sharks" and it turns out the company lied and actually experimented on 12 sharks, leaving 9 remaining. While Preacher is on vacation with his family at a beach resort/hotel, there's an earthquake which causes the building to fall into ocean and the town/city to be partially flooded. Then the sharks arrive.

The only mistake the scientists in the first film made was conducting their experiments out at sea. Instead of you know building an aquarium inland or on a private island. It would have to be a lot cheaper and easier than a deep sea laboratory.

    • @DerpDevilDD
      @DerpDevilDD 3 ปีที่แล้ว +21

Playing devil's advocate, if they'd built a proper facility on land, there is no way they'd have gotten away with the genetic tampering for as long as they did. Making their lab nigh unreachable is the only reason they were able to operate with such impunity. Of course, on the other hand, it would have been easier and less time consuming to just have more sharks to harvest from instead of making their brains bigger. lol

    • @KamenRiderGumo

Except that makos (which they specifically were using) can't be kept in captivity. Like great whites, they are pelagic and need the freedome of the open ocean, othrwise they get depressed, stop eating and die. They also resist being fed - unlike dolphins or other sea creatures, they need to HUNT, not simply EAT, to survive. If they cannot satisfy that predatory drive to chase down and kill their prey, it messes with their prehistoric minds so much that they begin to 'shut down'.

Dangerous for more than just hitting a giant beam of wood I learned the hard way. So yes that is the correct attitude to have. Are you most likely safe, yes. Kill-dos to you for reviewing a typical movie about what happens when scientists create generically enhanced sharks for diabolical corporate goals to increase profit that fails at the cost of human lives. I guess they didn't learn their lesson that "history has shown again and again that Nature points out the follies of man..." (wait... that sounds like the classic song by Blue Oyster Cult about everyone's favorite kaiju) shown in the first installment of this killer shark movie franchise. By the way, if you're interested in reviewing another movie about why hu-mans shouldn't mess with the natural order of deep sea creatures, you should check out the 1977 movie, Orca, co-starring sexy Bo Derek. It's one of the classic creature feature movies, but with an orca (aka killer whale) instead and why you shouldn't cross them!! Just food for thought (at least for the orca, I mean). In the meantime, keep up the great white shark (I mean work) you do entertaining us viewers/subscribers of your successful TH-cam channel!!!

Fuck, I'm just happy to see a new review that didn't involve Nicolas Cage. Now if you could review World War Z, that would be neat.

I really hate YT's algorithm. Along with 3-5 channels I actually watch it kept showing me random stuff, tik toks, clicksbaits and so on. It's a shame the actually good content gets mostly buried under all this.

Well...it's not as bad as Deep Blue Sea 2, I guess?
I mean that-that's not saying much, but...it's something.

6:33 If you feel like splitting hairs, sharks don't really eat people. They tear them to shreds yes and swallow some bits, but more often than not they end up vomiting up whatever bits they took from you, which later wash up on random beaches. Although I don't think this knowledge does much consoling for the people missing their bits...then again they're dead so why would they care either way right?

The super intelligent sharks I can deal with.
But climate change actually effecting sea-level? Really? I can only suspend my dis-belief so far, movie.

What a disaster of a film! Haha. Ok so someone explain to us the tactical advantage of having a neon green and blue colored grenade launcher that looks like a child's toy. Like wtf? What arms manufacturer would ever design something that color? And, and if the bad guys decided to customize them after getting them....oh boy, that makes them even dumber than they already are.

Yeah, super smart or not, the Bull Sharks wouldn’t be able to kill and eat those Great Whites, it would be vice versa BUT then again, the Deep Blue Sea movies always kicked Shark science in the nuts

Also my basic understanding of most sharks global warming is helping them it's our overfishing that's hurting them,

Deep Blue Sea: Not a masterpiece but I can watch this movie again and again without hating myself. Good for what it is and it doesn’t try to take itself too seriously.
Deep Blue Sea 2: Uhhhhhh…….this doesn’t make much sense.
Deep Blue Sea 3: Someone please make it stop. Please make it stop!

I just watched deep blue sea 2 yesterday, I actually enjoyed it quite a bit, so I'm looking to watch the third one now. I would rate the second one maybe a 6.5 out of 10. It's definitely suspenseful but not as good as the first one. Also the acting is a little bad but that's not a huge deal. I hope I will enjoy the third one as well
