    I m from Malaysia and everything started from friend of mine who happened to be a Pashtun visited his ill friend near my place. I went with him and I was so shocked to see nearly 50 of them alrdy there to visit the ill friend. I felt so alienated since I m Malaysian Indian. Long story short they really made feel very comfortable and they really provided 1st class hospitality despite being “ financially inadequate”. Since then I wanted to learn about their culture and so on.
    I can say most probably I the only Malaysian bought this book. And can wait to read it.

    Barely 3 mins (2:56)Jyoti has been reminded by the author that this book is about Pashtun; and no Afghans and Pashtun are not the same . I like how Jyoti confirms all the stereotypes of Lutyens wanna be Angrez but full of mediocrity ignorant journo 😂

    • @BotswanaThabo
      @BotswanaThabo ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @Kraken Thunder absolutely possible but Afghans are also Hazara Tajiks, Sikhs and Hindus so no, Pashtun and Afghans are not the same it is a basic general knowledge. Khan Abdul Gaffar was a Pathan and Pashtuns are popularly known as Pathans more than Afghans. I also find author's claims problematic that all Pashtuns come from one guy who converted to Islam during Mohmd's time. Then how do you explain Hindu Pashtuns? They do exist in India as a miniscule minority.

    • @BotswanaThabo
      @BotswanaThabo ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @Kraken Thunder I bet the points and nuances we are discussing here are lost in the discussions above and that is the point. Our intellectuals and journalists take positions based on the disinformation served by the "outsiders" and international commentators on the people and their issues of the Indian subcontinent. Nothing original has come out from them in the last 75 years. I consider it a height of mediocrity yet somehow they sound very arrogant

    • @mohsindalvi87
      @mohsindalvi87 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@BotswanaThabo need to differentiate between Afghan and Afghanistani/Afghani. Afghan is a synonym of Pashtun/Pakhtun/Pathan, while Afghani is a citizen of Afghanistan and could be a Pashtun or Uzbek or Tajik or Hazara or Aimak or Turkmen. Perhaps the country should rename itself to remove the confusion and to communicate that non-Pashtuns r equal citizens (which has not been the case for a while now).

      @Kraken Thunder lolz pashtuns in pak r refusing to call themselves paki. How dumb they r. Agreed that Greeks recognised the pactyon people 2000 yrs ago, but there r national & religious identities also that exist today. The artificially drawn (or forcefully drawn) Durand line is a reality and pashtunsin pak and afg will have to adapt to live in their respective multiethnic nation states. Making ethnic countries with homogeneous populations is not possible in south and west Asia. The sooner we realise this and begin to accept all ethnicities in our countries as equal citizens, the better it is for regional cooperation.

    1. Here we have Jyoti interrupting Tilak and making a mess! He is talking of Pashtuns and Jyoti is thinking of Afghans! No wonder she congratulated Tilak for writing this book not for academics but for general readers !!! 2. In 18th century, Maratha Empire under stewardship of Peshwas reached up to Attock on the banks of Indus, which is where Afghan territory starts, as Tilak rightly puts in. Tilak gives interesting details about origins of Pashtuns, linkages from Gandhari to Mauryas, Khiljis, linkages of Indians with Pashtuns to Durand line etc. 3. It is time for USA to fish in troubled waters of Pashtun identity, offer Taliban all help to settle Durand Line issue in return for Taliban eschewing terrorism and behaving in a civilized manner. 4. Though Tilak says India has no role in Durand Line issue, India should offer full support to Taliban in return for Taliban recognizing J&K as integral part of India and not supporting terrorism against India. 5. We should have special 'coaching classes' for Taliban and educate them on India Pashtun civilizational ties so that they appreciate India's role and treat us as friends. 6. The book is indeed worth reading!! Thanks Tilak for so much of information.

      "The Pashtuns began as a union of largely East-Iranian tribes which became the initial ethnic stratum of the Pashtun ethnogenesis, dates from the middle of the first millennium CE and is connected with the dissolution of the Epthalite (White Huns) confederacy. ... Of the contribution of the Epthalites (White Huns) to the ethnogenesis of the Pashtuns we find evidence in the ethnonym of the largest of the Pashtun tribe unions, the Abdali (Durrani after 1747) associated with the ethnic name of the Epthalites - Abdal. The Siah-posh, the Kafirs (Nuristanis) of the Hindu Kush, called all Pashtuns by a general name of Abdal still at the beginning of the 19th century."

    Who are the Pathans? They are Aryan tribes who converted to Semitic-Islam following the invasion of a part of their region by the Semitic Arabs. They are surely not Semites racially though there is an ongoing effort by some Semites (the Yehudis) to make them Semites racially via manufactured data. They still carry pure Aryan names pretty often. In fact the grandson of the great Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan has the name Asfandyar. The latter is a non-Semitic Aryan Zoroastrian name.
