Engraving a bamboo cutting board with the 10 watt Acmer P1. This is another easy project to add to your collection. The cutting boards are inexpensive but make nice custom pieces.

Good video. I have found when burning bamboo I get a more consistent burn color running cross grain or at 45 degrees.

I have found that if you are working with Bamboo you can get a much better burn if you turn off the bi-directional burning. It takes 2x as long but it looks much better.

I do enjoy your content! I had a thought that if you situated the house with the whole on top, it wouldn't matter how they cut the veggies. I'm thinking I would probably use the other side in either case. That way it wouldn't mess up the engraving and would stay a good-looking display piece in my kitchen. But since I don't know about engraving with lasers, going across the grain might not be the thing to do. I feel certain it would give each word the colorations of different letters, eliminating the effects of the lighter words not being as dark as the others. These lighter and darker words give an unconscious thought to the importance of the words, which you tried to do by using a different font for "Sweet" but since it's lighter it looks like the emphasis is on "Home".
That's natural substances for ya. They burn differently, regular wood does the same thing. To avoid grain differences, you have to use select woods.
have you tried borax or Baking soda to even out the color of the engraving ?
Yes, it makes a lot of really black soot that will wipe away. Also, borax will stain some woods. I used it a few times and never again. Speed, power, focus and air assist is all I need.
Another great video. For an inexpensive laser that one looks like it does a really good job. Is your customer realtor by chance? Looks like they might go for something like this.
I haven’t had to deal with their customer service.
Do you coat with a sealer after you engrave?
No, butcher block oil is all I use on food safe products

If anything, cutting board oil. I wash them with dish soap and water.

is your laser mounted to the honeycomb in any way? The honeycomb I'm using on my little 20w is smaller so i always have to mess around to get the materials aligned straight.
No, the honeycomb is made into the enclosure and I use my jig kit to hold the machine in place.

What's your final solution in preventing the fire alarm going off. I've disabled it in makeblock software and lightburn settings. Cleand it multiple time without preventing the alarm going off every 30sec. Did wat h your video which was very helpful
I assume you are talking about the XTool D1. I went into XCS and disabled mine. There is a setting in there that will turn it off. Lightburn cannot disable it that I am aware of.
The setting is under flame alarm, select "do not show again" to disable it.
These settings has been done and no improvement

Do you treat the bamboo after you engrave it? If so, with what? I was told to use borax? 🤷♂️
No,borax is a pretreatment some folks use to make engraves darker. I don’t use it. You can wipe them down with mineral oil after.
My XTool d1 Pro stopped firing its laser. I GET A Light Blue output . I cleaned the lenses and the Nosel. I am using Lightburn. What do you suggest? I have only used it for less than a year.
I would check the outer lens and make sure it isn’t cracked or smudged.
