Great list! I can’t get into Spirit Island for some reason, but literally every other game in this list seems at least very interesting. The one I’m most tempted to just go out and buy right now, however, is Sail. Not the first time I hear great things about it, but definitely the most impactful.
So glad to see Mysterium park getting some love ! Aswell as the bald choice that Regicide is ! I really like the conception of that game working around a pack of 54 classic cards ! The gang (wich just arrived in belgium in french) is taking the same route, offering a cooperative poker experience using classic cards it's brillant design ! love that way of making new with old ! about Marvel lcg, i much prefer it solo, but two players is good (i won't play above 2 players, never ! (coz it's basically toooo looong) but solo/2p is working great ! Spirit island, still one of the best solo/coop boardgame out there, really like it Great list ! Cheers from belgium !
Great list! I would definitely add Black Orchestra and Paleo. Two of my absolute favourites, just so mechanically solid and thematic experiences, wonderful stuff!
Great list! Here is my top 10 Coop board games: 10) Horrified 9) Sky Team 8) Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion 7) Robinson Crusoe : Adventure of the Cursed Island 6) The Crew 5) Cthulhu: Death May Die 4) Pandemic Legacy 3) Nemesis 2) CO2 : Second chance 1) Spirit Island And some honorable mentions: Codename Duet, Sleeping Gods: Distant Skies, Zombicide, Exit, Mystérium, Unlock!
My favorites are: - Spirit Island - Cthulhu: Death May Die - Mansion of Madness - Eldritch Horror ( a bit long though) - The crew - Sleeping Gods, the original
Marvel Champions tops my list. Its so thematic. I feel like I am Captain America or Hulk. The variety of content available is insane. The ability to mix and match the villain deck makes for such a versatile game!!! I fell for Earthborne Rangers on the creators alone but that gameplay sells itself. So much fun. A true open world RPG in a card game!! I bought Spirit Island at your(amd a few others recommendation) a few yrs back and amazing. There is so much on even the Core box to keep that game fresh and new. Its such a fun, strategic game!! My favorite not mentioned... Star Wars The Clone Wars (pandemic system). Yes, its a reskin but it works very nicely on a thematic level for the Clone Wars. would love to see more heroes to choose from and more villains to go up against.
Good list, I didn't played many of them. Spirit Island is my top game of all time too. I don't understand the buzz around Marvel Champion and Gloom/Frosthaven but all games are not for everyone. Here's my top 10 coop games Honorable mentions: HM1. Venom Assault HM2. Lost ruins of Arnak (Lost expedition coop extension) 10. Project Elite 9. Viticulture World 8. Nemesis (coop mode) 7. The crew (space or underwater) 6. The loop 5. Sentinels of the multiverse 4. Pandemic (any one) 3. Aeon's end (any one) 2. Primal: the Awakening 1. Spirit Island
@@tomlikeabomb6706 It's easy to explain why I don't love Marvel Champion (I don't say it's a bad game just that it's not on MY top 25 coop boardgames): 1) I don't like the deck construction mechanic (too much time to build our deck) 2) Too similar to lord of the ring the card game (another game I didn't like) 3) Not many combo possible 4) I'm tired of Marvel theme game 5) I've only played with the base game. Maybe the extensions corrected this point but I found all heroes too similar to each other. So no game of Marvel Champion I played was memorable.
Can you elaborate a bit on the fact that both Marvel Champions and Earthborne Rangers secured spots on your list? Champions is my favorite coop game of all time (and only behind Root and Arcs in my overall favorites), but my hype for Earthborne Rangers is off the charts. I haven’t played it yet because I’m waiting on a localization to play with my group, but from what I’ve seen and heard about it so far, I kinda have a feeling it might kill Marvel Champions for me and my group. I know they have as much that’s different between them than that’s similar, but still. Curious about your thoughts on these two games coexisting in your list.
Yeah absolutely. So first off, a big part of making these lists is instinct, just whipping off a list of 30 or so games then shaving it down. I ask myself if I were trying to keep a top 10 accounting for several metrics (function, diversity, fondness, situation) and both felt like they fit different niches. Marvel Champions, while being cooperative, hits notes of CCGs that I’ve loved from L5R to vs system to Magic. On the other hand, Earthborne Rangers (and Arkham LCG for that matter) fits more in the adventure game category, more in line with 7th continent, sleeping gods, and others. While it’s still strategic, it’s exploratory, more feeling like what I loved most about console RPGs as a kid. In the end, both scratched inseparable itches. Hope that helps!
@@TheCardboardHerald It definitely does make sense. And I'm glad this is the case, honestly. I own every last Marvel Champions product, and it's one of the games I picture myself playing literally into old age - weird as this sounds. However, Earthborne Rangers sounds to me like a clear evolution of the cooperative LCG formula.
I fg with pamdemic reign of cthulhu and pandemic wrath of the lich king, dont need vanilla michael chricton pandemic in my life anymore really.but its a solid system!!!
Well there's a very complex and technical algorithm behind the scenes that creates a mathematically sound, objectively right list. ...Or it just happens to be that this is how I was feeling when I wrote the list. TBH I respect Robinson Crusoe more than I enjoy it, having gotten rid of the game twice over the last decade. As for Horrified, I played the original once at a convention and enjoyed it but it didn't stick heavily with me. Maybe I should give it another go. Either way, thanks for watching and happy gaming from Alaska!
@@MetaVita Ooooooohhhh OK, I thought you were talking about Horrified. Yeah, Arkham Horror LCG gets a lot of play in our household and it was a narrow thing, but I elected to highlight Earthborne Rangers which shares a lot of overlap with Arkham (and creative team), so it kind of "filled that slot". But on a different day Arkham might have taken the cake.
Fun list! Spirit island is goated, definitely my favorite! so much depth and board games with simultaneous turns feels so good with larger groups

My favorite co-op game is The Captain Is Dead; it's the best one to elicit true cooperation and table-talk.
