Thank you very much for sharing this video, I've been waiting for you to test the new Vallejo primers because I've used their primers for years and never had an issue until about a year ago and it's just been down hill from there so I stopped using them. Absolutely love the results. Everyone keep yourselves and love ones safe and healthy and remember to SMILE 😊🙏
@gidden2000 exactly, I thought maybe it was something I was doing different and tried everything I could think of and just gave up and started using badger and ammo
My biggest issue with Vallejo primer was using it on something I knew I was going to mask over for additional paint. 9 times out of 10 the masking tape would pull the paint up primer and all. No matter what I tried the primer couldn't hold up to masking. I switched to Stynylrez and never had that problem again.
Wow, the Yellow surprised me. Yellows are usually garbage over black, but yellow there worked really well. Also, just as an in general tip, be wary of using Lacquers and Enamels over acrylics, because the solvents are a bit aggressive. However, if you work in very thin layers, the lacquer/enamel thinners will evaporate so fast it can't really attack the Acrylic. You just need to take your time.
I can see how this does give acrylic's a good start and finish in both a final product and for cleanup. How does this primer compare to the MR FINISHING SURFACER for the preparation for a final enamel or lacquer finish?
Got your BR airbrush today. Looks good! Tried a test spray on the cat, but he was too quick and I wound up painting the daughter-in-law. Oh well no loss.
Ammo by Mig is coming out with their ATOM Paints lineup. Acrylics nice enough to spray car bodies. I don't think they're out yet. I've never had any luck with Stylenrez, always cakes in my brush. Pretty much Mr. Hobby primers or Tamiya primers for me.
Have you tried ProAcryl primers? They don't have a lot for colored options, but they work great. Cover very well and reduce super well to preserve details. They do need a little longer curing time than some other primers I've used, but I love it because it really does just let me be sloppy and blast a model and let it reduce itself down. Their Dark Neutral Grey and white primers are pretty much all I use any more
Scale Hobbyist? In Nashua? If so, I'm literally 10 minutes away in Hudson. That candy over the black spoon, silver primer is gorgeous. Thanks for sharing.
I've been making online purchases from scale hobbyist since 2007, love the shop, wish they were local to me, closest brick hobby shop is almost 100 miles away.
Great demo! I like most Vallejo paint except their primers. These new ones look better. The main weakness in the old primers were flaking when sanding or masking. Poor adhesion. When you demonstrated sanding the red primer it actually looked like it sanded and feathered nicely. Would liked to have seen a masking tape test though. Maybe in a future video. Thanks for all the great demos!!
I just don't think the acrylic paints hold up as well and what I normally use enamels, urethane or laquors. I've never seen one I can sand on just as you mentioned. What I can say, they seemed to cover well. Man I can't wait for my barbatos airbrush to finally ship and get here!! Makes me so jealous watching you and seeing her sitting there on your bench! 😢
Thanks for tge videos Rex their all awesome 👌. Are there videos anyone knows of his whole process from start to finish on a kit? Wondering when and where I should sand primers, paints(flat, metallic, ect)?
The silver for a candy base is awesome, I've had a candy red planned paint job for a Zaku for a while now but keep putting it off due to needing to primer, then silver it then put the red over. But I think I might go for this silver primer!
I'm definitely getting into the game air series eventually. Maybe I'll have better luck spraying that stuff than the regular stuff. Even with thinner and flow improver, I still have problems.
For model color you really have to use a low amount of paint since it's so thick. The bad thing is each color requires it's own thinning/flow improver amount to the point that I just left acrylics and went with lacquers. Less of a headache for me.
Any idea how durable those primers are? They don't just peel all over the place from sanding so that's a good sign, but if you were to scratch them say with your nail will they come off? I know even enamel will come off with enough scraping and that you're not supposed to do that, but do they come any close to lacquer primers? My old vallejo primer likes to flake off even after leaving it for a week to dry...
I stopped buying Medea airbrush cleaner after watching your homebrew cleaner video mixing Windex with water and alcohol and adding drops of glycerin. Works perfectly and lasts a long time.
These could not have come at a better time for me. I have been trying to find a good acrylic primer to replace my Kustom Service ones I use(kinda unreliable in terms of availabiltity + requires a little extra effort to get right) They were all super impressive. The silver one in particular, not to dark nor light. Just right😊. Great coverage and pigments combined with vallejos' air lines ease of use and you got one good primer. It would be great if they made a larger bottle. All in all awesome review, really came in clutch. Thanks a ton✌🏽
My whole goal is to get to your level on a paint collection!! 😊 Thanks again for the video and REALLY hope to see more videos on 2k Mecha Empire. (Needing resilient paints)
Barbatos I tried the Vallejo black primer, thinned using AK thinner on a large surface, was very impressed with the results , want to try this new yellow primer , just no stock yet at our hobby store
I see that the labels are different, but were you able to find anything suggesting they are not made of the same contents as the old Vallejo primers? Is the paint updated?
Another good video👍 But what about showing how to really use a double action airbrush? If you spray air all the time and not using it as a spraycan there will be no clogs or drytip. With laquer or alcohol based paint it is not so important but with waterbased paint it is.
Is there any info on when your airbrush will be shipping? Asking because I ordered this on the 25th and still haven't gotten an update other that it was supposed to start shipping on the 3rd of Dec.
Hello have you ever tested vallejo game colour please? Im debating between this and the game air as I want to use both a brush and airbrush, thanks for the great videos
I would have thought the Tamiya would've eaten the acrylic primer? Is the primer that durable? Or is there another reason why it didn't eat the acrylic?
I just wanna know how their durability, compared to their other primers. For colors, these look amazing, but I just can't if the durability hasn't drastically improved.
You know it's all marketing.........They can easily make paint with the same adhesion qualities as primer. But they wont sell as much product. Like all the other associated products, like flow improver is just soapy water to reduce the surface tension. Any cleaner like fantastic in a spray bottle will clean any acrylic paint.
Man, what ever the paint you put on those spoons, it always grip. Me, It is always catastrophic. You said the spoons are tough, but it always works fine with you. Even when you pass many, many times, and say to my self, stop, the paint will run if you continu but damn, it never does.
Vallejo primer stands up to sanding pretty well, if it's allowed to CURE. Being dried and being cured are not the same thing. Let the primer cure for about 48 hours, and then try sanding it. Night and day difference! I did see a video where a guy made a mix of 50/50 Vallejo primer to Quick Shine Gloss floor finish (green label). He said that after about half an hour the primer was rock solid and sanded beautifully. I've not tried that yet, but I do plan to.
I've noticed this too. For the longest time I was under the impression that vallejo primer was really bad for sanding because it's too rubbery and would just peel off if sanded, but then I found one primed model I forgot I had. I primed it a while ago in vallejo's dunkelgrau so the primer was completely cured by the time I found it. Then I sanded it to fix a couple details and it actually worked pretty well. Not as good as Ammo's One Shot primer in that regard (which apparently is the same as Stynylrez) but it was wholy different to my previous experiences with Vallejo primer that I'd say it's actually pretty good if you give it enough time to cure.
Thanks for giving out the temperatures to set the dehydrators at

just let your acrylics cure longer, 24-48 and you'll mitigate much of that risk, learned th hard way

So funny.😅😂
Let me tell you, if I had used a neon color, you probably wouldn't have known the difference. Know what I mean?@@bobrivett7645
If you sprayed a racing line on the cat it'd be that much faster and harder to catch! This was a blessing in disguise!

Thanks for the review. As a miniature gamer/painter, these are of the highest value to me in your vast plethora of review types.
I've heard so many mixed reviews of these paints but the yellow looks pretty good!
I'm really liking that silver primer.. and I'm interested in the rest of those primers as well.

Thanks for sharing all your testing and experience! It truly is invaluable knowledge to share with people.
I see you ticked up to 83K. Whoo hoo!
Thumbs up to that.
Going to have to get a set and compare it to Badger
As primarily a wargamer I like that silver primer. I may give it a try and see if I can skip a step for some things. Thanks for this video!
I am definitely going to try the new primers. Thanks for another great review!
Nice test Mr. Rex. Thank you for all your videos.

I like the silver and the red might come in handy thanks for the test
Those are awesome primers thank you for sharing your knowledge helps a lot will be getting these
Nice review, thanks. I use acrylics because I don't have a vented spray booth. Good to see that Vallejo has stepped up their game.you

Zaku is a small project for candy paint. I’m doing the Dozle Zabi Zaku when I’m done with the Takumi Sinanju candy paint.
@@yw9686”small project” says the person who has no idea which Zaku or scale it’s for.
@@lolsaLlama I have all the sales of Zaku’s. None of them is a big project for candy paint.
I also own the full collection of SH Studio Zaku variants.

That silver is really nice. It could almost be a paint cover itself and let you skip a priming step.
I already use the vallejo spray can gunmetal that way 👍
A metallic primer, that's cool! Hope they sell it on bigger bottles like the old ones.
Wow! That Sun Yellow might replace the prime white and Bad Moon Yellow contrast thing most people do with Imperial Fists.

Stynelrez makes some really good acrylic primer as well.
@@theronhatfield8854 I just ordered a six pack from spraygunner of Stynelrez. How do you spray them? Straight or thinned? PSI? Needle size?
Did they hold up to the “thump” test?

Back to tha Benchhhhhhh!
I can't wait to try the swallowtail
Vallejo is my go to, it is very accesible in my country, and the result seems quite nice.
Barbatos I tried the Vallejo black primer, thinned using AK thinner on a large surface, was very impressed with the results , want to try this new yellow primer , just no stock yet at our hobby store
Looking forward to the Patreon videos

This is what I wanted to know as well
The yellow primer looks great, think the black primer I picked is the original version , still looking for the badger version, great video
How well do you think these Vallejo paints would hold up on a Gunpla kit, would it rub off from moving the joints?
Another good video👍 But what about showing how to really use a double action airbrush? If you spray air all the time and not using it as a spraycan there will be no clogs or drytip. With laquer or alcohol based paint it is not so important but with waterbased paint it is.
Curious are your airbrushes going to be available in the UK?
I'm impressed, I would try the silver chainmail for sure.
So are these new Vallejo primers replacing the old primers, or is this an entirely new line? Wondering before I order some!
It seems these are part of the new formula Air line

Great review! Love what you do
I have such mixed feelings on acrylic primer lol
If they have little or no bite on styrene, they're not useful.
I really like Vallejo Primers🖌 👍
Hello have you ever tested vallejo game colour please? Im debating between this and the game air as I want to use both a brush and airbrush, thanks for the great videos
Just posted a video on Game Air last month
This could definitely make for some interesting preshading/zenithal priming.
Surpassed my expectations with the candy finishes 👌🏽
Hi guys. Here's hoping all of you are doing well.
I would have thought the Tamiya would've eaten the acrylic primer? Is the primer that durable? Or is there another reason why it didn't eat the acrylic?
Most primers regardless of type can handle most paint types on it
@barbatosrex9473 oh, that's awesome! I didn't know that...I use acrylics and solvents so that's gonna open a new world for me. Thanks, Barbatos Rex!
The polyurethan primer (grey), needs around 24 before sanding, apparently that's a thing with these types of paints/primers.
Another nice informative video, thanks 👍
What's the difference between your airbrush and studio gs airbrush gun?
Hello, I would like to know if we can use this primer on a metal figurine Thank you
Does anyone know if these would be good to use with splash paints? They look really nice
I like the paint cola in their new formuler.
why do almost all silver paints end up coming off when taped over?
But you should let it fully cure and then try sanding it. And see the outcome
Is it wetsandable?
There are yellows, and Yellows!!
Did you applied these directly from the bottle?
I added a few drops of Vallejo thinner, see the 7:00 minute mark
@@barbatosrex9473 many thanks!
No tape test?
I'll show a tape test in a quick video today. I let it cure for 24 hours

Those primers aren't new. The only thing reformulated was the Game Color and Game Air.
Just new labels and bottles.

Yeah ..Their original recipe is bad. Glad to know they reworked it.
