I've always had manual cars in my life and I don't think I'll ever have the same excitement buying and driving an auto. I've driven plenty of high-power automatic cars and it always gets old really quick. There's just something frustrating about seeing the RPMs go up & down by themselves. Manual FTW
Solid points. I have had 13 manual vehicles, and 3 automatic. My current one being a DCT f80 comp. This is the only automatic I've owned more than 6 months. The engagement of this transmission rivals some manuals, of course never replacing the sensation. I want a comp xDrive g80 but can't get over the standard auto they use. I know they're great, yes I've driven it. DCT is just apart of why the f80 is still so raw and underappreciated imo. I am torn.
I also have the same spec, 6MT, IOMG and Kyalami, and I still can’t believe how much attention it gets. Even in areas where super cars are common it still turns heads.
@@Autofreakgarage Oh Yes. I have a pal that has the frozen grey and when he saw my color he was like "I wish I got IOMG" What crazy is that his color is way expensive than mine
The G8X platform is my current dream. Idk why but the G82 in particular has been growing on me especially cause of Freshkiicks build. The only thing I need is a six speed. Sucks that you can only get a base with manual and not on a comp
Fresh’s g82 has changed a lot of people’s minds on it. He did a good job making it looking proper. Love it with the current the setup he has on. Yes I agree! I wish you could get a comp with manual. I would without a doubt go that route.
Automatics always sound like a clutch is slipping. Totally agree 6 speed RWD is BMW M3 DNA and that's why I got the 2022 G80 6Mt with sunroof. I had the F80 6MT with sunroof and it was fantastic! I sold it at 72,000 miles and it was around covid times when used car value was very high. I had a huge downpayment on the F80 and I got all that money back when I sold the car.
I've always been a manual or die guy, but the G80 changed me on that. It's not even about base vs comp, or RWD vs X Drive. It's just that the manual transmission is a bad feeling manual and the ZF8 is an amazing automatic.
I disagree but to each their own. After owning many different cars with/without a sunroof and/or glass t-tops, I feel that the additional light inside the cabin simply makes for a more enjoyable driving experience. The car has less of a tank feeling.
I actually agree with @theriseagainstfan01 Always had manual cars. Got a manual g80. But the car is so sterile and the manual does not do enough to make up for the loss of feel from an F80. In fact. It seems to get in the way. Does not distract from the fact that it's a blisteringly quick car.
@ScoobyFreak86 - I’ve been watching your channel for years. I also had an STI before my G80 and have done a bunch of mods following your videos, including buying that carbon hood scoop you had. Looking forward to seeing your G80 progress!
Thanks a lot for the comparison. I like the Tanzanite Blue with Kyalami interior on the current G80's. I've been driving the previous generation M3 and 3-series all with manual transmission's. I'm thinking about trying the current G80 M3 Competition with the auto-transmission. I also like the 2024 M8 Competition Coupe. I will have to test drive both of them to see which one I like best. For now, the F80 M3 Competition with manual transmission is more than enough for a daily driver.
I'm curious how you feel going from the F80 cluster to the G80s digital cluster? Iv always liked that the F80 has actual gauges but also mixes a little bit of digital with the different chassis settings, lane departure, and redline lights
Much prefer the f80 analog/digital mix. Not a fan of the screen and digital layout on the g8x. Although, you get used to it. I just always find it too busy with too much information.
@@Autofreakgarage I wish they would have gone with something like the 992 911 cluster that has an analog rpm in the center but digital on the sides, love that one.
Can't put a price on friendship. My best friend leant me his BMW when i got my job an hour and half away...and i had to move closer to work; My motor in my car had died. I drove his car for a month. I have owned 3 BMW's ever since.
I would prefer auto for track. But family commuting and canyon roads manual more enjoyable. I can understand why bmw went with awd due to much power and managing that rear end is much at it limits.
Driving a WRX living in Maine but boy oh boy do I want an m3. It’s gotta be a manual too. A bit risky considering it would be a daily driver but how could I turn this beast down 😭
I sold it after 6 months of ownership cuz I thought I sucked at manual, then I found out on straight pipes channel that going from 1st to second gear requires you to hold it for a second before dropping the clutch for a soother shift, now im kicking myself. 21 dravit grey with red interior fk I miss it
I have a 2025 G80 on order. From what I have read and watched, you can resolve the 1st to 2nd shift issues with a CDV delete and possibly a short shift kit and/or an upgraded shifter bushing. I plan to drive the G80 stock for a bit and if I still don't like the transmission I'll start meeting with the above modifications.
Thanks for posting this. I really enjoyed your take and your thought process. Debating between the M3 and the M4 myself at the moment so on a youtube bender!
@@Autofreakgarage Just one if you would. I have heard many people mention the steering in the G80 feels disconnected, can you concur, and if so how bad is it? I currently have a E92 (xdrive), and it's fairly responsive and weighted. I'm not a fan of weightless steering but I guess I could get used to it.
It’s pretty good. Improvement from the f80 where it was BMW’s first take on electric steering in the m3. You can adjust the weight by the press of a button.
@@Autofreakgarage Thanks. Looks cool. I think I'll have to go with the black though. I'm a bit worried about light colour showing up dirt and stuff. :(

I have a similar one (6MT) Isle of Man Green but with Kyalami Orange interior. I absolutely loved it. The amount of attention it gets. INSANE

Interesting. Love my manual m3. Nothing beats the third pedal and stick for engagement for me. But nice to hear the automatic is that good.
I disagree. I think the manual is great. Is it Civic Type-R great? No, but it’s still a very good manual transmission.

I do like rowing gears, but man I love the ZF in my G80 coupled with the Xdrive. The car just absolutely rips.

That sunroof is totally not worth it. It's not even panoramic
Carbon fiber top was def the way to go for me and normally I get sun roofs

When you mentioned the STI I then noticed you were scooby. Totally forgot you use to own a subie. I own a subie, and now looking for a g80.

Can u get it in awd? Really loving the looks and style of this bmw

looking to trade my red 2024 m2 auto for the new base m3 g80 face lifted with silver wheels in yellow. it realy is a future classic.
Need more friends in my life like Chris! Lmao
Also Isle of Man green is one of the greatest greens of all time. It looks amazing.
It’s an extremely beautiful color. After living with it all week, it’s easily one of my favorite colors in this generation.
Is the interior white or silver? Kind of hard to tell on the video. BMW call it Silverstone/black interior so if it's white that's misleading.
It’s the silver interior
@@Autofreakgarage Thanks. Looks cool. I think I'll have to go with the black though. I'm a bit worried about light colour showing up dirt and stuff. :(
the lighter interior colors are definitely harder to stay on top of in terms of cleanliness. They do look good brand new though!
so well spoken
Just FYI, Portimao is pronounced Porti-MAU (like "wow") not MAYO after the famous track in Portugal
Love my auto.
i wish this was AWD. BMW did this on purpose to put AWD in the MOST expensive model
