Yep... Like if you're on a roller coaster. Perfect vantage point to catch the faces of the people behind you! Also useful if you're on a rowing team, where "backwards" is actually the direction you're going.
The Motorsports Edition comes with a J-hook buckle. Or if you want to get on after you have bought your camera the fallowing accessories come with one: Chest Mount Harness, Helmet Front Mount, Grab Bag of Mounts. The Helmet Front Mount is the cheapest way to get one and it also come with some useful extender bars. You can find all of these on the GoPro site
It will stick but it will not be as strong as if you used the right one. The idea behind using the curved adhesive mount is that it puts more of the adhesive in contacted with the surfaces. When you use the flat one there is less of the adhesive in contact with the surfaces.
One major con for top mount is that everytime you take the chair lift you have to tilted your head to avoid your gopro being knocked off by the top of lift rack
I'm doing to be doing some hard downhill skiing, and I was wondering if the clip mount (presuming that I fall), is going to keep the GoPro intact. Basically, if I fall head first, will the clip mount (with adhesive) ensure that the GoPro does not come off?
I put my gopro backwards when im skiing to get shots of my friends when we are skiing it's a cool angle to see the snow shooting off the back of your skis and shots of your friends shredding behind you.
Great video. Doing snowboard in which position do you believe that the camera has much more field of view. On the top of the helmet or rear of the helmet? Thanks in advance!
Skied today with my new camera mounted on the front. I guess the weight on the front doesn't bother me that much. I barely noticed it. Even checked a few times to makes sure the camera was still there. But I can't seem to get the stopper to fit in with where I have it. Haven't looked at video yet, so I'm not even sure how it worked.
I have the hero 3 black edition so the weight isn't really there in the front. I was wondering if you have to put your goggle strap under your helmet, or if there is a way to take your goggles off your eyes, but leave it on your helmet? Thanks
Fantastic tips you have. I'm tryng to find one thing and i cant. Can you help me.... What program do you use to the helmet, the 4 or 5? Thank you very much.
i was wondering What you feel would be the best position to mount the gopro if i want a good clear forward facing view but not so you cant see my board or anything, preferably an angle where you have a good view forward along with a view of my board and hands?
Hey, great video. I was going to buy the front mount until I realized that I can do it with the things it came with. But I was just wondering, is there a way to get the self-portrait view with the flat mount?
Hey man just a quick question should i put some extra glue just to make sure it does not fall off and is there a certain time i must wait before using my go pro on the sticky?! Thx
For skiing - if i want to get a good shot of my skis, and the horizon, (the features) but be able to put my goggles up, while i am skiing, (not recording) should i put the mount in between the top and front? Thanks.
@FlufyDuky To be honest I have not tried the side mount yet. I have put one on and will be trying it out this weekend I can let you know how it works. The one thing that I do like about the side mount is that you get a bit of the helmet in the shot.
with the front mount when you put the J Hook on the front and bent it down, you can reverse it have it facing backwards just the same as the top mount...
I used a curved mount on the front of my helmet and let it sit for a decent amount of time, after taking two or three runs on a snowboard the adhesive failed and my go pro fell off. Is there a way to reuse the curved mount or do I need to buy another one?
im bougt the gopro hero 3 white and im using it for snowbording, do i need to buy extra mount? if i do can you tell me wich one? thx i enjoied this vid :D
I keep my goggle strap over my helmet however I rarely put my goggle up I find if I do this they will start to fog up afterwards so I try no to make a habit of doing it. Because of this I have never had a issue with not being able to put my goggles up when the GoPro is mounted. If the GoPro is not on the mount it is possible to put them up.
So lets say i looked down with the mount on the very top of the helment, would i still be able to see my board and stuff, cuz i want it to seem like the video is exactly what im seeing not just a front view, thanks
I would get the Silver (it will have better video quality). It is up to you and how much you are willing to spend. The White it the cheapest the black the most expensive. In the same way the White is not as good as the Silver witch is not as good as the Black. I have never had a problem with the camera falling out of the buckles. However if you want to it is not hard to tie it on.
I'm going Whitewater Rafting tomorrow, and I wanted to know if this would work with other helmets (I'm sure it does), and how long would it take for the mount to stick to the helmet?
today i tried my gopro hero 3 white edition, that i got for christmas, for the first time. i got the chest mount as the hero 3 doesnt come with as many mounting devices/ accessories, as previous gopro cameras.i wore the mount backwards for a couple of runs to film people cycling behind me, i guess this is why you would mount the gopro on your helmet backwards. hoping to post the edited footage during the week ahead. btw, cheers for the video, it really helped with my nose plug w/ j hook issue.
@kylemartn101 what is better, front of helmet or side? I like the eye level view on both but I'm worried about the weight having it on the side. Is it noticeable and hard to ski in? Thanks
hey kyle, I am going to be using my gopro to snowboard a lot so i was wondering which mount to use on my helmet. i was thinking about putting it on the front of the helmet but then i realized the issue about the weight, and that would annoy me alot. so which mount would be best for me
I don't find those helmets on gopro official site, nor at local stores... Where do I get those GoPro helmets, or are those just for demonstration purposes ?
Good tip on the rubber "nose plug", I wasn't sure what it was for; I thought it was to keep the mount secure. QUESTION: I shot 30 min of ski vids only to discover most of the shots were of my ski's and snow, it was angled way to far down. This was partly due to my leaning forward while skiing. (my mount is slightly forward of being on top). You really can't use your phone to view the angle while skiing. So, what's the best trick to getting your camera at the right angle?
The stopper will only fit with the stranded buckle mount. Watch the video "Flat Buckle VS J-Hook Buckle: GoPro Mounting Tips & Tricks" To learn the differences.
For the j and flat mount and the vibration use the shortest extender you get with the go pro and put it between the flat mount and the camera so you can get the nose plug thing on
its really strong, but be careful to apply it correctly, wash the surface of the helmet before you attach it and before you stick it on carefully select the position you wanna use and that the bottom of the sticker matches with the helmet curves, so it doesn't have any air in between. also let it dry for about 12 hours before first usage, so the glue sticks properly, after 12 hours you cannot take it off. The only way to get it off beside breaking it is heating it up with a hairdryer and than slowly peal it off. Hope your satisfied now ;)
I just took it off my helmet where I had put it too far to the back, because of vents. Was recording my helmet, basically, which was getting in the way all the time. Decided to do a front mount after coming back from skiing, and removed the sticky mount with the help of a screw driver as a lever. So the sticky mount had been on there for like 8 hours, and could still be removed. I then put it on the front of the helmet, and it holds like very strongly. Fortunately, on the back of the helmet, it was mostly fixed in the middle of the sticky mount, while on the front, mostly the sides are glued to the helmet. Interestingly, the glue did not dry out during the day, so I may just have been fortunate. But if you notice that you have badly mounted your sticky mount, you may have a chance to change the position if you do it early enough. Also, it doesn't really add so much weight to the front, so that's ok with me. And I was able to put it up high enough on the front side that I'll still be able to put goggles up there just under the Gopro. Thanks for these videos; had I seen it before, I would have had a day more of usable footage :)
+Aaron Wanamaker It will! I have mounted GoPro on hard hats before. We used them on the helmets of inspectors so they they could go back and look at/show off problem areas. The mount work great and the video was good but it produced way too much footage to be useful.
Rear facing... record skiing with a rear facing camera, play it backwards and... Voila - you're skiing back up the hill!
Mark Kanzler lol ...😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
When it's facing backwards, you can film friends and family by being in front of them. I love it!
Yep... Like if you're on a roller coaster. Perfect vantage point to catch the faces of the people behind you! Also useful if you're on a rowing team, where "backwards" is actually the direction you're going.
Yep, rollercoasters and boats... and hoes...

You can find all of these on the GoPro site
you should show an example of the video perspective that each mount produces or whats the point of the video?
great share
You can get the go pro 3 plus on sale now on photocamz.com/newcameras
i know write its annoying!
It will stick but it will not be as strong as if you used the right one. The idea behind using the curved adhesive mount is that it puts more of the adhesive in contacted with the surfaces. When you use the flat one there is less of the adhesive in contact with the surfaces.
@LeanderLFC
yes it is a good idea to put the sticky mount on 12-24h before use
You sure can. I have not tried it but I have seen it done it seems to work quite well.
Yes! Any kind of helmet you want and it can be used for almost any sport.
I would think they would. The mounts seem to stand up to some pretty big crashes while skiing and snowboarding

@ThaReaIFake
They are the 2011 and 2012 Smith Vantage. You can find the price online
I have the hero 3 black edition so the weight isn't really there in the front. I was wondering if you have to put your goggle strap under your helmet, or if there is a way to take your goggles off your eyes, but leave it on your helmet? Thanks

Look in the videos description. They are both smith vantages

what happens if you use a flat in a curved surface, would it work?
@fallenbird1029 It is a 2011 Smith Vantage
For skiing - if i want to get a good shot of my skis, and the horizon, (the features) but be able to put my goggles up, while i am skiing, (not recording) should i put the mount in between the top and front? Thanks.

with the front mount when you put the J Hook on the front and bent it down, you can reverse it have it facing backwards just the same as the top mount...
What about the first mount with the two devices , then aimed forward from farther back - does that mitigate against the weight forward problem ?
I wanna use the gopro helmet mount for wakeboarding but im worried the adhesive will fall off with the water and the jumps. what do you think?
Yes the other ways is with the vented helmet strap, or putting the head strap mount over you helmet
I used a curved mount on the front of my helmet and let it sit for a decent amount of time, after taking two or three runs on a snowboard the adhesive failed and my go pro fell off. Is there a way to reuse the curved mount or do I need to buy another one?
The vibration stopper.. What do you connect it to? I have the gopro hero 3
Maybe stupid question but are you able to mount these on any helmet or does it have to be a special go-pro helmet?
Do you have to Take on the sticky mount 12-24 h before going in action?
I dont remember
if i were to order the helmet mount on the go pro website does it come with 1 or 2 of those adhesive mounts things for it or do i need to order them?
Would the sticky mounts hold for something like skydiving?
what is the name of those hemets????
and what is the edition that comes with those mounts?
thanks for answer
If your using the self portrait view while your recording, won't it be upside down when you watch the video after its uploaded.
that sticky mount can be reused?or can it only be placed in one place and stay thre forever?
im bougt the gopro hero 3 white and im using it for snowbording, do i need to buy extra mount? if i do can you tell me wich one? thx i enjoied this vid :D

Do you get the vibration stopper with the gopro naked kit too?
Thanks for making these videos. I'm about to order my first GoPro in a couple of hours. Explanations like this will help me very much!
Kyle, your videos are amazing and very user friendly. You have really helped me make the most of my go pro camera
do the vibrations from the j-buckle mount actually have effect on the video, or is it just annoying to have it vibrating on ur head?
You could have showed some footage of you skiing while whearing the mounts you showed on this video :)
what mount do you use to mount on a Laser Sailboat? Suction Cup or an actual mount?
i am going on an ATV, if I were to just use the head strap mount and put a helmet on top, would it still be functional?
Hi, I'm looking for the best perspective for attaching to a fencing mask at the top, or at the side, do you have an idea?
Any footage that shows the view from these 2 type of mounts point of view?
I think that it was from the North Shore Ski and Board in Vancouver Canada
So lets say i looked down with the mount on the very top of the helment, would i still be able to see my board and stuff, cuz i want it to seem like the video is exactly what im seeing not just a front view, thanks
No. The further back you put it, the higher up it comes. If you point it then forward, you risk having lot of helmet on the footage.
Is the helmet sticky mount removable on applied to the helmet?
Are you using the sticky mount comes with the gopro? Won't it come off if you fall? thank you
Just don't fall :) But seriously, if you have it on your head and you fall in a way that this thing gets off, you'll probably have other problems.
I'm going Whitewater Rafting tomorrow, and I wanted to know if this would work with other helmets (I'm sure it does), and how long would it take for the mount to stick to the helmet?
Same here how did it go? Does the adhesive hold up?
Turns out we didn't have to wear helmets during so I never had the chance to try it out, sorry. :/
So I can use any kind of helmet for this? For example an old skate helmet?
today i tried my gopro hero 3 white edition, that i got for christmas, for the first time. i got the chest mount as the hero 3 doesnt come with as many mounting devices/ accessories, as previous gopro cameras.i wore the mount backwards for a couple of runs to film people cycling behind me, i guess this is why you would mount the gopro on your helmet backwards. hoping to post the edited footage during the week ahead. btw, cheers for the video, it really helped with my nose plug w/ j hook issue.
which mount do you recommend for paintballing?
@kylemartn101 what is better, front of helmet or side? I like the eye level view on both but I'm worried about the weight having it on the side. Is it noticeable and hard to ski in? Thanks
does the vibration just cause nose interference or does it mess the video up to?
what does the little piece of white rubber do?
Are you just using an adhesive mount on the helmet? Is it strong enough?
You have to flip the video over in your editing software or put the GoPro in upside down mode. You will find a video in how to do this on my channel
Thanks for the help Kyle...great video!
is there any other way to stabilize the j hook mount?
Where would one purchase a anti vibration plug, because I can't find it.
hey kyle, I am going to be using my gopro to snowboard a lot so i was wondering which mount to use on my helmet. i was thinking about putting it on the front of the helmet but then i realized the issue about the weight, and that would annoy me alot. so which mount would be best for me
if you buy a gopro and sticky mount can you do this strate away
extender bars don't come with hero3 where do you get them??
I would use the top helmet mount and the GoPole
You could use the head strap mount but I think the better option is to mount it to the paint ball gun. This would give you a really cool view.
I don't find those helmets on gopro official site, nor at local stores... Where do I get those GoPro helmets, or are those just for demonstration purposes ?
is the gopro 3 white edition better then the gopro 2 outdoor edition?
hey, where can i but that go pro helmet? i can't find one in the internet. please help thanks
Good tip on the rubber "nose plug", I wasn't sure what it was for; I thought it was to keep the mount secure. I think for the iPhone Gopro has an app that creates a local WIFI network so that you can see on your iPhone what your footage is.
just wondering, do you think the adhesive mount would hold up skydiving?? Any help would be appreciated :)
Could you show difference in footage between the flush front and top mounts? Thanks :)
yeh but wath about the sticky thing on your helmet is it 100% secure on the helmet or ?
Yep @I8NYAGAIN is right a hair dryer is a great way to get it off.
Yea there are pros and cons to both
Nice video, what about mounting on the side?
stil i dont know where the white thingy is for..., whats it for?
On the second mount what are the drawbacks
how would you mount it for first-person view skateboarding?
The stopper will only fit with the stranded buckle mount. Watch the video "Flat Buckle VS J-Hook Buckle: GoPro Mounting Tips & Tricks" To learn the differences.
For the j and flat mount and the vibration use the shortest extender you get with the go pro and put it between the flat mount and the camera so you can get the nose plug thing on
Do the sticky things come off the helmet or are they permanent?
İs it possible to use the gopro without a quick release
really informative videos! would you mind if I put this one or others by you on my rental website if needed?
Can you mount a helmet cam without the sticky mount
You can buy the grab bag of mounts for GoPro it will come with one
do the sticky padshold well?
How sticky are the mounts? I'm worried that the camera will pop off if/when I wipe out...
Littlemaxi your going to be, they are very sticky make sure they are on there though.
If youre worried put a lighter under neath the sticky part till its bubbling and stick on your helmet
Epoxy glue the mounts. Every one of the stick-ons I have ever tried were not good. The slow dry epoxy is best.
Hey will this work for a motorcycle haif helmet
would you please give the name of that helmet? do you know the best snowboard helmets?
How strong or firm is the mounting between a helmet and the sticker mount? I'm gonna get GoPro after two weeks, so I'm interested.
its really strong, but be careful to apply it correctly, wash the surface of the helmet before you attach it and before you stick it on carefully select the position you wanna use and that the bottom of the sticker matches with the helmet curves, so it doesn't have any air in between. also let it dry for about 12 hours before first usage, so the glue sticks properly, after 12 hours you cannot take it off. The only way to get it off beside breaking it is heating it up with a hairdryer and than slowly peal it off. Hope your satisfied now ;)
Real strong as long as its clean surface
2:32 he started speaking with an Indian accent wtf haha
What if i wanna do it for paintballing?
After i've used the sticky mount on a helmet and take it off, can I reuse it on a different surface?
no, it will probably not stick anymore
I just took it off my helmet where I had put it too far to the back, because of vents. Was recording my helmet, basically, which was getting in the way all the time. Thanks for these videos; had I seen it before, I would have had a day more of usable footage :)
Wold the mounts work on Hard-Hats(example-for construction) too?
+Aaron Wanamaker It will! I have mounted GoPro on hard hats before. We used them on the helmets of inspectors so they they could go back and look at/show off problem areas. The mount work great and the video was good but it produced way too much footage to be useful.
Did you try already? What model do you have?
