  • This is a video that will help you on how to do well in American propeller planes. In this video, you will be learning most of the beginner level things that will see you doing better in air combat in war thunder. Some of these include climbing to the side, going head-on, when you should turn to fight, manipulating your energy, and more. These tips are pretty basic and do not require much time to learn, but they are a great way to get started on the aerial side of war thunder. However, the planes that belong to the United States of America do take lots of time to master. If you want to see more advanced stuff, let me know!

I don't get how this works, though. Germany planes dive, climb, and turn faster than American planes. Every time I try this strategy, German planes easily evade my dive, and catch up on the climb.
Been a few years since I tried WT, since I dedicated to American planes and later found out they're the worst, but unless something has changed, my WT experience was being consistently out-maneuvered, out-climbed, and out-gunned.
I'd spend the first several minutes of every match climbing, just to encounter BF109s and FW190s, armed with cannons that can rapidly fire and one-shot me, already at altitude with speed.

All excellent points. I think an even bigger problem than the planes, its the teams. Usually, (at the battle ratings you just used as an example) the teams are made up of way too many bombers. I have been in games where I am literally the only fighter! Also, teams will not side climb and will "Leeeroy Jenkins" in and by the time you get to a decent alt, you are the only one left and the spotting system suddenly shows you the 6 guys that eliminated your team are right on top of you. That is about when I leave to play ground RB...

The definite exception to this hit and run bunch is the P-36 family. The P-36 can out turn just about anything it wants to (with landing flaps extended it's crazy) and it actually sucks at hit and run due to the insane aileron lock up at just a little over 300 kph. The lock up is omitted at high altitude where the air is thinner however.

I think something not covered here is that most Axis planes have an advantage in SUSTAINED turn performance. This makes the planes much more forgiving to fly since missing the first guns opportunity gives you multiple chances to viably reengage. If you maintain a max performance turn, you will slowly gain an advantage over US fighters just due to the plane's inherent performance.
With American planes, you have an INSTANTANEOUS turn advantage, which means if you don't get the win in the first 1 or 2 passes, your options are to bug out and reset or steadily lose any energy/position advantage you had. Not many beginners can pull off that kind of gunnery snapshot easily.
IRL, this is why John Boyd was so interested in a high specific excess power for fighters in his E-M theory, since this was THE way to generate an enormous sustained turn advantage.

  • @davidbradford7105
    @davidbradford7105 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Great points. I would add learning energy maneuvers like basic yoyo's and how to use a weave with a teammate while flying in loose pairs. Baiting lower opponents up, then dragging them across your friends nose while you "Thatch Weave" in front of your better is key. While I like the La5's best for this, American planes are perfect for this also.

    Tips for specific families
    Mustangs
    - it is impossible to climb with too big IAS, but it is possible to climb too slow
    - never engage below ~400kph, if you fall below-disengage
-faster you go- faster you turn
    - optimal climb speed is 276 kph
-combat flaps rip at very high speeds (over 650kph) don’t fear to use them
    Thunderbolts
    - this boy struggle to acclelerate but keeps speed remarkably well
    -side-climb is necessary - 250 kph
-higher you are- less energy you loose in manuvers
-over 7km alt no other plane can match your horsepower
    Cobras
    - avoid fights over 5km alt- your engine don’t like heights
-to use 37mm effectively you need very close convergence ~300-400m
-faster you are- faster you turn- never go below 400kph
    - for one-on-ones feel free to use upward split-s with liberal use of all configurations of flaps- BEWARE- during them you are easy pray for players outside the duel!
    Corsairs
    - your gear is your air-brake (up to 700kph)
    - speed is your game- keep it over 350kph
-your flaps are only for emergencies when you are caught at low speeds- they rip easily
    - when using m.e.c. Keep your oil vents 50-100% open - they create bearly any drag.
    Lightnings
    - You cant always outgun the enemy, but You can out snipe him
-You turn faster in vertical than in horizontal- especially when you use all flaps configs
    - choose your engagements wisely.
-recommend for Thoose who live and breathe .50cals.

You should put squad on first place. A good US fighters squad can kill a whole team of enemies without any useless teammates.
The main idea of squad team work is helping each other clear the tail and always creating a out number situation in a certain area.
Side climb is important but not so important. You don't need to higher than everything. You speed is your best friend. US planes like P51 always out run everything if you pay attention to your surroundings. Use your speed advantage to rush the enemies and team work. If you shallow dive in advance, a higher enemy can never chase you. He will only loose his energy when chasing you. Your squadmate can help you push him away.
Turn fight is really tricky in P51. You can turn in high speed. Higher than 400kmh. That's why you should always speed up before you enter a battle. Quickly dive away is always your choice. So speed up. Don't turn. Let your squadmate help you.
    Never head on.
    Never head on.
    Never head on.

That's pretty stupid that to use an American plane effectively you need a full team when you can hop into any other plane from another nation and do way better everything about American prop planes is ineffective or there is another aircraft in it's same tier who's better in every way

    About dogfighting:
It is an option, however if you can avoid dogfighting then avoid it. You should also NOT dogfight turnfighters/good turning planes like italians, japanese and british.
Also wanted to say that if possible, use MEC. The radiators don't produce much drag meaning you can leave them at 70-100%, which in turn means that you can use WEP almost permanently (almost since some planes have limited WEP)
The vid is very good though

    • @loadingnothing8700
      @loadingnothing8700 2 ปีที่แล้ว

using MEC also means your auto prop pitch, fuel %, wing trim, and other important variables are manual and unless you don't have those bound to a button or worse not having any idea what they do you put your plain at a higher disadvantage then the plane that runs it on automatic.

Hi Pilicast, i don't realy undertand bc i've try all that things and many other, but i can't do a single kill, i fly the P63C i sideclimb to 4500m (if i go higher i'll wouldn't have any time to get any kill bc all the ennemies are gonna be dead already) i try all possible things: Dogfight, Turnfight, ennergy trap, Head-ons
Even be at 4500m dive whenever a planes is on my six and try to sow the ennemies but nothing work...
Every game is the same game, i take off, sideclimb, find a target, try to engage him, miss my shots, be out turned or loose my plane control because of the G tolerence, ennemies fire 3 round and boom, my to wing cutted, no motor, no pilot, tail cut etc...
Even in ground rb the only time i do kill with my planes it's on the ground targets, but whenever a plane come in i know i'm dead...
This situation is very frustating, just start a game, die, loose 4k sl for the repairs over and over...
I've asked for tips to the pepole i meet in game but they always say me, skill issues whereas not, what are you suppose to do when you can't dogfight, turnfight, energy trap or even head-ons with the ennemies...
So pls if you or anybody reading this comment have any solution for me please tell me
Thanks a lot and sorry if my english is a bit broke i'm a french boy lol

Some American planes can turn fight well, though they are the exception. You can turn fight in stuff like the hellcat, p-59 (event vehicle), and bearcat, although of course it always matters what plane you are turn fighting against

They have lower climb rates but good high altitude performance and a higher top speed than pretty much anyone else. Just don't get in a dogfight and you'll do fine.

Attacking a TA 152 in a head on while he has any sort of energy advantage is a mistake. The TA 152 has 2 20mms and a 30 if I am not mistaken so it has scary guns but not a lot of ammo.

    • @Nbdestryer
      @Nbdestryer 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Can confirm, I find the P-40 to be better at Air RB than the P-51C-10 for example; Even though the mustang can climb better it's not a good turn fighter at low altitudes and isn't as tough (In the chinese front of WW2 some pilots actually preferred the P-40 over the P-51 for these reasons). The thing with later war US fighters is that they gave up completely on maneuverability in favor of speed, armor/armament, & energy retention which worked great IRL but doesn't translate to a small multiplayer environment like in WT

My argument on Point one is this. in a larger realistic arena (No big red names showing you where everyone is at) yes, US planes can get the altitude they need. But in the constricted arena of RB, you will find you have no real chance to take advantage of the US planes specific strengths as often as lets say a German plane will be able to take advantage of theirs. strictly speaking it's not the planes, it's the arena that gives the advantage to the German 109s 190s etc etc for their climb rate, which is 100% always useful from start to end of the match, where the US plan must seed the arena to the enemy for an extended period only to find the enemy focused on out climbing the US planes and thus no advantage was gained while enemy attackers rack up points down low. Point one is not wrong, it's misapplied to an arena that is not suited for it. You're thinking on the line of how the planes perform not how the enemy will counter you in a actual match. The number of times i have simply climbed with a 109 only to pick off the lone 1 or 2 US plans that thought side climbing would give them an advantage, only to end up alone is to many to count... Point four is the only way to counter this. In that event just keep above and away and they WILL separate eventually.. but if you're a group of 109s.. well fat luck for the US plans they basically lost.

  • @CadellTensen

the idea of US planes do better in teams makes sense but I think the US gets bad WR cuz a lot of new player pick the US.

If the only way a plane can succeed is having a massive energy advantage than it sucks (at its BR). Nothing you said in this video doesn't also help the Bf 109s or Fw 190s, or J2Ms, etc.

If you don't like American fighters it's because you don't know how to fly, or you don't know how these planes were used historically.
Patience and teamwork was essential for the Wildcat or P40 in the early years and this continued into later planes and tactics
