Fucking true. Yesterday I was being tailed by a MiG-3 and a Bf109 while piloting my P-39Q (RB 3.0 BR). The second I realised what I was up against, dived down 3,5 km alt and broke into a ground level high speed evade. I was nailing through buildings and trees at over 700 kph, increasing my distance from the attackers. The MiG was struggling to hit me, I was evading all of his shots. The 109 quickly lost track on me, sitting at a 1.6km behind. After a nearly 2 minute escape, very close to my airfield, the fucking 109 lucky snipes me by shooting at random. Not a single bullet had damage my plane. That one bullet was all it took. I was furious, I never typed things in the chat so furious in my life before. Even looking at the replay it was obvious something strange happened
Yea been killing enemies plane with bombs instead of mg and rockets y know since i can just fly low straight and wait for the right moment and yeet that bomd and hope that the bomd got my tailer
Fly Russians. Got a kill with only 14 of the last 20 rounds out of two B-20S cannons with default ammo belts. I waited and waited until I got a bead on the wing and chopped it off. The target was a Ta152C-3. That was after getting three other kills in my Yak-9UT. And I even felt like I was spraying quite a bit. XD

playing this game since 2014, i have pretty much everything ingame, but i suck at jets, after a friend showed me Defyn channel, things changed, used to be tanks main, now i dont even want to touch tanks anymore . this channel its a goldmine

To me the most important thing to learn was to shoot A LOT. Especially when you are New with Guns you really better let it all sing a lot when you have a chance. I was way too careful with my trigger and i learnt way too slowly. I was afraid to give away my position (as i only play sim battles and tracers give away your position and tracer colour even your nationality sometimes) So i felt really hesitant to shoot away. Then i loaded stealth belt and i felt much More eager to spray, also i saw the impact More clearly. So fire away whenever you have a chance!
@@norfangl3480 USA planes are the definition of spray and pray. Really annoying when you're trying to have a turnfight and they hold their trigger the entire time.
The problem is that only works with planes that can afford to spray, use some Russian planes and you’ll learn real fast to be conservative with your ammo
I am level 49. I know level doesn't mean anything, but just to give an idea on my experience. I still struggle to hit targets and I feel this vid really helped. I'll be practicing what you've highlighted. Thanks for the great video!

Pro tip for aiming with German guns, if you think you're leading enough, *you're not,* and if you think you're leading too much, *you're not* and if you think you don't have enough lead, *you absolutely don't, not even close to having enough*

After like 600 hours in the game, there are still some mechanics that aren't clear since I don't play planes much apart from ground striking. But it's very helpful and I'll be waiting for a second part. Keep it up!

I really started air RB gaming this week and couldn't get over a kill in one match and now I'm a beast flying my Zero Ko like a true fighter ace ranking up 3/4 kills a match. Great video. Targets drifting outside their apparent turn circle is something I have never considered. Overall this video is very detailed and will give most players something to think about. I'll definitely watch further installments.

super informative vid. i am definitely an old returning player, but never got seriously into it. I'd basically just fly around enough, and learn tid bits here and there as I go, watching others knock me out of the sky. this is going to help me a bunch!
for the love of god (or replace with your favorite deity here) keep these coming!. Up until today i had never been properly told WTH was vertical targeting or how did it work. Up until today i never knew why if i was leading my guns in the curve why i wasn't hitting, it never dawned on me that the frikkin plane drifts, and of course it does! but now i know :D so PLEASE keep these coming. I have literally got to my first jets on grind alone, best match ever i think i got 3 kills? But with this new knowledge (to me) i feel i might start to improve and actually be useful to the team (besides being a movable bullet magnet, that is)
One of the most heavily used methods in the game is spray and pray. When people see you snipe with a single shot, they think you have to be cheating somehow. It just happened to me a couple days ago. I was in the American P-39. Single shot killing with its nose mounted cannon. My own teammate typed in the chat to report me for being a hacker. Like there's no way they spray multiple rounds of tracers at a bomber, and I come along and smoke them with a single stealth round. Lol. There's levels to aiming. I was relegated to getting my score from mainly ground targets when I first began the game. I didn't even know about the target lock option and did all of my aiming in standard flight mode. I didn't understand the lead indicator, and I couldn't understand how other people were shooting planes so easily. Long winded comment here, but it boils down to there being a learning curve. Understanding how different rounds travel, nose mounted vs wing mounted, convergence, belt types, proper leading and different angles, and other nuances. Then it becomes fun. But still, always remember that nobody likes the level 100 player with aced planes and fully maxed out pilot and crew skills, who lives in low tier feeding on beginners because they need an advantage to feel good about themselves. It's not a fair fight. Even in two identical planes. The aced plane will always outperform the one that isn't fully researched. Since the games matchmaking doesn't do it for you. Try your best to play against similar level players in higher tier. It's less discouraging for the tier 1&2 beginners who are just figuring things out. If they're basically spawn killed in every match by a level 100. They'll eventually leave the game. And no new players means fewer people in game and fewer matches. So don't be like the adult who shows up at an elementary school basketball game and dunks on kids ti feel good about themselves. You're a doinker if you do that.
Hello! Thanks for taking your time to explain these things! I’m a skilled World of Warplanes player but the game became quite monotonous, especially with my love for bombers and GAAs. I started WT and was overwhelmed with the sheer amount of knowledge a person needs to use in real time to actually hit a plane and I love it! Thank you for keeping up and making more videos! Very nice video, especially the vertical aim point. I really liked the visuals and videos as well, very demonstrative and informative. I got a good idea of what I should be doing now. I find it very frustrating that War Thunder doesn't have any ballistics cameras or simulations, so you can't personally see where your rounds are going, so you can't understand what you're doing wrong when aiming. But your examples helped clear it up for me!
And let me guess... Drink an energy drink to "improve" your reaction time. You don't need a fancy ass chair or a useless drink that will increase your chances of cardiac arrest. And when I say energy drinks are useless, I mean they just keep you up past 3:00 A.M. I'm not speaking from experience (except for the chair part), but I just know you're wasting yourself away. Get gud - at life, my bro. I'll admit, WT is fun. But it's fun when you ACTUALLY play with the level you already play at.
Very useful guide. To be honest I've found myself extending my convergence out to 800 meters which has helped me considerably, however, I think I may reign it in to around the 500m - 600m as per your suggestion and see how it goes. As an additional aside, it's good to see a positive video which is trying to help community members. I'll certainly be checking out more of your channel.
The part at 5:40 is also true when playing SPAAGs. The video was pretty helpful, answers most questions oftenly asked concerning this topic, but also gives some helpful tricks. I'd love to see more similar videos on other parts of gameplay, such as climbing, picking your targets and carrying games. CATGIRLTOM approves 👌
DEFYN ive been watching your vids for quite some time and i recently finally subbed, but you dont go unappreciated here, making these guides etc. ive been playing british AF since 2017. also from this intro you reminded me i commented on one of your newest vids, maybe playing the HORNET MK.1 it got moved to 6.0 and the repair cost for me without premium, *it being a plane that burns out from one incendiary getting tagged by 264's*, i had bad luck trying it, shindens and p59a's werent the greatest fun either, your expertise and skill is needed.
What really kills me is the confidence you have on your shots. You shot and done, moving to the next. You know it's going to hit. As a noob in air battle, it's very impressive xD
I have played this game for 8 years and consistently had ok aim in WT - Better than most but not THAT much better, your advice on plane inertia has made me realise I have been predicting flight paths wrong for years and just missing shit I didn't expect to miss, now I'm hitting much better shots! No matter how much you iron out your skill issues, there will always be something somewhere.
Please keep making these, you are helping so many people get into war thunder and grow the community, most would probably just quit out of frustration if there wernt people who make these types of videos. Thanks!😁

My tip is to set your firing to spacebar. In planes with different gun types you can even separate cannons from mgs. For example, in 109f4 20mm goes to spacebar, lmgs go under lmb. Why? I found that it greatly improves trigger discipline, but also helps adjust your aim as you shoot a lot. Holding lmb often reduces the precision you can move your mouse with, but there is also this thing about using one hand to both adjust and shoot the guns. Somehow, its... easier to do both when you use one hand for aiming and the other for shooting. Give it a try!

One of the best videos about shooting. I wish I had this when I started out but yet I still learn so much from it like the drift in turns and also about the convergence. Maybe you can do a segment about head on shooting.
God damn that intro is so spicy. This series is gonna be super useful. I wanna see a video on spotting techniques and general knowledge pertaining to spotting. Clouds get me really easy kills, though sadly I'm killed in them at times. The spotting system is so sketchy that a video describing it would be kinda nice whether it be minimap usage, tracking targets that are mowing the grass (mosly applicable in tank RB), and even covering night battle tactics. I find myself hearing an enemy plane and desperately looking in the direction I believe it's at, only to get clapped by someone 2k meters above me.
One thing that helped me a ton is adjusting my VT just a touch on guns with lower velocity. Its literally the smallest change but it helps when taking longer range shots to make the gun feel like the faster guns. Personal preference but its worth a shot if anyone finds themselves struggling with low velocity guns.
This video was great, I have like 2,5k hours in this game but never actually took the time to learn it properly. I knew most of the aiming stuff, but it really helped to watch it again. For example convergence, I never knew what to choose.
My son got me playing WT thanks to my infatuation with the obscure Komet and Hornet. I know they aren't the best, but they are just.. cool! Anyway.. now that I have them I need to learn how to track better and I am glad you made these videos. That, and figuring out the lead for the snail paced cannon the Germans used. Like you said.. all experience based.. off to gain more experience. Thanks again for this and other videos like it.
Couple of things from this: Been playing for years and i gotta say, it's very satisfying to see actions get put into words. It's one thing to learn this all just by doing it, its another thing to understand it enough to explain it to another person. Props (heh) to you for that. I would personally argue that having a higher convergence would force a player to learn the ballistics of each weapon more closely as missing becomes much more of a real issue. Just my opinion on the matter. Overall, good video. You and Adam should do some form of collaboration. hope you see this

Hard to do that with a 262 or MiG 15 however. Americans it's fine/

Understanding how different rounds travel, nose mounted vs wing mounted, convergence, belt types, proper leading and different angles, and other nuances. Then it becomes fun.
But still, always remember that nobody likes the level 100 player with aced planes and fully maxed out pilot and crew skills, who lives in low tier feeding on beginners because they need an advantage to feel good about themselves. It's not a fair fight. Even in two identical planes. The aced plane will always outperform the one that isn't fully researched. Since the games matchmaking doesn't do it for you. Try your best to play against similar level players in higher tier. It's less discouraging for the tier 1&2 beginners who are just figuring things out. If they're basically spawn killed in every match by a level 100. They'll eventually leave the game. And no new players means fewer people in game and fewer matches. So don't be like the adult who shows up at an elementary school basketball game and dunks on kids ti feel good about themselves. You're a doinker if you do that.
Hello! Thanks for taking your time to explain these things! I’m a skilled World of Warplanes player but the game became quite monotonous, especially with my love for bombers and GAAs. I started WT and was overwhelmed with the sheer amount of knowledge a person needs to use in real time to actually hit a plane and I love it! Thank you for keeping up and making more videos! I can’t wait to use this knowledge in game!
Try using the Blenheim with 50m convergence and vertical targeting.. I’d like to see you aim with that!

I find it very frustrating that War Thunder doesn't have any ballistics cameras or simulations, so you can't personally see where your rounds are going, so you can't understand what you're doing wrong when aiming. But your examples helped clear it up for me!

And let me guess... Drink an energy drink to "improve" your reaction time. You don't need a fancy ass chair or a useless drink that will increase your chances of cardiac arrest. And when I say energy drinks are useless, I mean they just keep you up past 3:00 A.M. I'm not speaking from experience (except for the chair part), but I just know you're wasting yourself away. Get gud - at life, my bro. I'll admit, WT is fun. But it's fun when you ACTUALLY play with the level you already play at.

Very useful guide. To be honest I've found myself extending my convergence out to 800 meters which has helped me considerably, however, I think I may reign it in to around the 500m - 600m as per your suggestion and see how it goes.
As an additional aside, it's good to see a positive video which is trying to help community members. I'll certainly be checking out more of your channel.

DEFYN ive been watching your vids for quite some time and i recently finally subbed, but you dont go unappreciated here, making these guides etc. ive been playing british AF since 2017. also from this intro you reminded me i commented on one of your newest vids, maybe playing the HORNET MK.1 it got moved to 6.0 and the repair cost for me without premium, *it being a plane that burns out from one incendiary getting tagged by 264's*, i had bad luck trying it, shindens and p59a's werent the greatest fun either, your expertise and skill is needed.
What really kills me is the confidence you have on your shots. You shot and done, moving to the next. You know it's going to hit.

I have played this game for 8 years and consistently had ok aim in WT - Better than most but not THAT much better, your advice on plane inertia has made me realise I have been predicting flight paths wrong for years and just missing shit I didn't expect to miss, now I'm hitting much better shots!
No matter how much you iron out your skill issues, there will always be something somewhere.

Very useful, actually started putting this into practice and started hitting shots more frequently.
My tip is to set your firing to spacebar. In planes with different gun types you can even separate cannons from mgs. For example, in 109f4 20mm goes to spacebar, lmgs go under lmb.
Why? I found that it greatly improves trigger discipline, but also helps adjust your aim as you shoot a lot. Holding lmb often reduces the precision you can move your mouse with, but there is also this thing about using one hand to both adjust and shoot the guns. Somehow, its... easier to do both when you use one hand for aiming and the other for shooting.

One of the best videos about shooting. I wish I had this when I started out but yet I still learn so much from it like the drift in turns and also about the convergence. Maybe you can do a segment about head on shooting.

God damn that intro is so spicy. This series is gonna be super useful. I wanna see a video on spotting techniques and general knowledge pertaining to spotting. Clouds get me really easy kills, though sadly I'm killed in them at times. The spotting system is so sketchy that a video describing it would be kinda nice whether it be minimap usage, tracking targets that are mowing the grass (mosly applicable in tank RB), and even covering night battle tactics. I find myself hearing an enemy plane and desperately looking in the direction I believe it's at, only to get clapped by someone 2k meters above me.

One thing that helped me a ton is adjusting my VT just a touch on guns with lower velocity. Its literally the smallest change but it helps when taking longer range shots to make the gun feel like the faster guns. Personal preference but its worth a shot if anyone finds themselves struggling with low velocity guns.
This video was great, I have like 2,5k hours in this game but never actually took the time to learn it properly. I knew most of the aiming stuff, but it really helped to watch it again. For example convergence, I never knew what to choose.

My son got me playing WT thanks to my infatuation with the obscure Komet and Hornet. I know they aren't the best, but they are just.. cool! Anyway.. now that I have them I need to learn how to track better and I am glad you made these videos. That, and figuring out the lead for the snail paced cannon the Germans used. Like you said.. all experience based.. off to gain more experience. Thanks again for this and other videos like it.

Couple of things from this:
Been playing for years and i gotta say, it's very satisfying to see actions get put into words. It's one thing to learn this all just by doing it, its another thing to understand it enough to explain it to another person. Props (heh) to you for that.
I would personally argue that having a higher convergence would force a player to learn the ballistics of each weapon more closely as missing becomes much more of a real issue. Just my opinion on the matter.
Overall, good video. You and Adam should do some form of collaboration.
