    That was nice of you to comment on less capable vehicles to take their time and only go as fast as they feel comfortable with. (Personally have the opposite problem, where I get frustrated about less capable vehicles hogging the left passing lane, but I will think about this video next winter and be more patient 🤙)

    We are so excited to become Maine residents. My husband is from Ohio and taught me how to drive in the snow when we lived in D.C. I think y’all are so nice in ME and so funny.

    Leaving early is the key to it all. It sucks to sacrifice the sleep in the morning but it's also better when fewer are out on the road and you can just take your time without Jimbo riding your tail in his jacked up truck.

    Thank you for this video, i have severe anxiety about these conditions even though I live in Michigan we probably only get conditions like these 5-10 times throughout the whole winter, but even with a little snow it can be so slick. Stay safe out there

    Drive as fast as possible in a muscle car with ultra performance Summer tires on! Try for 160 mph.

    • @LifetheWildRide
      @LifetheWildRide  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      NOT, LOL

    • @eatwhatukiii2532
      @eatwhatukiii2532 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LMAO, which means sitting in one spot spinning your tires with no forward movement...you’ll certainly go SIDEWAYS though, and very likely 360 AND sideways. Fun for a split second (“Life is a wild ride”) until you hit the snowbank or the ditch and do damage. Muscle cars with summer tires have too much power and not enough traction to drive in even shallow snow. Once the roads get cleared and dry it’s ok, but don’t hit a patch of black ice.
      Trust me, I’ve got a muscle car. That’s why I also have a 4x4 truck!

    What type of car are you driving in the video? I’m moving to Maine and I wonder if my 2018 AWD RAV4 is good enough. It handles the West Coast Rocky weather. Wondering if the same is considered for Maine.

    • @LifetheWildRide
      @LifetheWildRide  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am driving a jeep, I would argue that your RAV4 is probably better than this jeep. So yes if you have good tires and drive careful your RAV4 would be fine. In fact my parents drove a RAV four 2014 for years. Thanks for commenting and come back and let me know how you like Maine when you get here. What area do you plan to move to?

      Moving for a job in the Portland Maine area. I grew up in New England. I saw a comment about how bad Californians drive LOL. Currently in Denver, and imagine California drivers in this kind of road and weather. Sadly in Denver they don’t treat the roads. They plow just enough to leave a film of snow (that later compacts into an ice sheet) hoping that the sun melts it. Imagine going 40 mph and having people kiss your bumper and honk for going too slow and then realize they are from Cali or Florida. Funny enough, those are usually the ones who cause the accident or are in the accident. I enjoy the normality of this slow crawl through a snow road. Your roads look like the main roads in Denver after they plow. Sometimes they are kind and put a mix of sad and clay. But most of the time it’s just an odd icy slush. Thanks man! Truly appreciated the video.

      I agree with you on the drivers that caused the problems. And that road that I’m driving on is I-95 and they usually keep it plowed very good that happened to be a particularly really bad storm and they were having a hard time keeping up. Portland is only 20 minutes from me I am south of Portland in Kennebunk.

    • @AlexZ-lc6nl

      @@LifetheWildRide oh I know I-95 well. Drive it all my life up until my move west. Thanks for the comment. It helps me gauge things better. I’m sure It will be fine. I’m always 10 levels calmer when I visit New England lol. It’s wonderful lol. Except when I enter Boston or NYC. LOL

    Moving to MA in a month, any tips on how to prepare for the winter?

    • @LifetheWildRide
      @LifetheWildRide  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well there are several things to consider, first if you’re talking about driving, make sure you have really good all season or winter tires, you can also consider studded snow treads which will make a big difference I’m driving in snow and icy conditions. In general and she has plenty of warm clothing gloves hat shoveling equipment depending on where you’re going to be if you’re responsible for a large areas may be a snow on the floor makes sense there are several other things to consider as well but these will be my primary tips. Last but not lease for the moment while I’m thinking about it, leave in plenty of time for where ever you’re going, make sure you’re not in a hurry when driving in bad conditions.

    • @DEXTVHD
      @DEXTVHD 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Life the Wild Ride we currently have a fwd vehicle, so you think studded winter tires is enough or an awd or 4x4 is a must?

    • @LifetheWildRide
      @LifetheWildRide  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Four-wheel-drive is definitely NOT a must, I would say the vast majority of people drive around with front wheel drive vehicles. Of course four-wheel-drive is great but if you’re taking your time and have a good winter tires with or without studs you’ll be fine. Of course studded ones would be better but again not necessarily a must it’s all about taking your time and knowing what your vehicle is capable of.

    Thanks for uploading this! I'm moving to Maine from South Carolina next summer, and you might think that's crazy. People here are telling me I'm crazy for wanting to.
    I will probably be living in an apartment in one of the beautiful small cities there actually. The car I will be using is not an AWD unfortunately, but I will at least get good snow tires! Will work remotely so no office visits, and I will try and keep from driving during those crazy snowstorms. Do you think I should invest in an AWD vehicle before winter hits, or will I be fine with just the tires? I'm no stranger to driving in snowy weather BTW, I have lived in Ohio before but snow there was nothing like this. I have read everywhere online that Maine cities plow the roads really rapidly, but your video shows that might not be as much the case as the Internet lets on.
    Any advice is appreciated, and I subscribed because your channel seems really useful for the Maine experience. Thanks and good luck with your channel vlogs!

    • @LifetheWildRide
      @LifetheWildRide  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It really depends on you and how comfortable you feel driving is the snow. Tires should be fine if you take your time and use good judgement, With that said it is nice to have AWD as well. We can have a really mind winter or a real bad snowy one and the roads are plowed pretty good however if it is a heavy snowfall over a short time frame then sometimes the plows just cant keep up. Hope this helps a little and feel free to ask any question. It also depends on where in Maine you end up, further north can be MUCH worse.

    • @captainbalderdash5412
      @captainbalderdash5412 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have driven in Maine for 15 years and only have front wheel drive and all seasons. You just have to know when to drive. If its a big storm, just dont go out unless you need to. If you are on a road that hasnt been plowed, or you get caught in a storm, just drive very careful, and allow for alot time for turning and stopping. There really isnt any special science to it. I would recommend snow tires though, or keep fresh all seasons during winter. And do NOT get rear wheel drive.

    • @sirosis7858
      @sirosis7858 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      " I have read everywhere online that Maine cities plow the roads really rapidly" That's a bald faced lie. Even the big cities take awhile to catch up to snow. The more snow the longer it takes them to catch up.
      Rural roads? hahahah good luck. State roads get plowed ok but that's about it. If you don't have a 4wd truck you just stay home a day or two until the plows catch up.

    • @LifetheWildRide
      @LifetheWildRide  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it’s a heavy storm then they can occasionally get behind, however in over 50 years I’ve never had any real issue that I could not drive through the snow even with just a front wheel drive car. Thank you for taking the time to comment.

    • @sirosis7858
      @sirosis7858 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LifetheWildRide its the ground clearance. After 12 inches of snow no cars are out on the road until stuff gets plowed. I work super early in the morning, before most of the plows are out (depending, some towns run plows on call), and if theres a foot or more the ONLY vehicles you see on the road are trucks.

      MrRowrow22 Best advice I could give you is to absolutely drive slow and take your time and watch for other drivers and cars, this way if you do go off the road it should not be too bad at the low speed and if you’re watching other cars you can avoid them if they get out of control possibly. Stay safe and thanks for watching and commenting on my video.
