  • Aquatic adventure abounds in this episode based in scenic Stonington, Maine! Tag along on a boat-camping trip and lobster feast on Steves Island with the Maine Island Trail Association and ride aboard a commercial lobstering and scallop-harvesting vessel to learn about a new technique for growing scallops on the Maine coast. More island-hopping is in the offing on a boat tour to the publicly accessible Green Island, once home to a granite quarry, and you’ll get to meet longtime lobsterman and local legend Leroy Weed at the Green Head Lobster Co.

I had a sales route along the coast of Maine in the mid '80s, and stayed overnight in Stonington every other week for several years. I knew half the population of Deere Isle. Great people. I loved Deere Isle, and Stonington was my favorite place. I had very near death experience crossing the bridge in a blizzard at night after they'd closed the bridge because it was rocking and rolling like a bronco in a very strong cross breeze. I was driving a large truck, about 30,000 lbs. I insisted on crossing the bridge and the police let me go. That was an unforgettable experience! Never again! Almost died that night. The Deere Isle bridge becomes a wild animal in the wind!

When Old Quarry Ocean Adventures closed down, that changed the area considerably. People came from all over to stay and launch there. I worked there one of the last summers they were open. I’m sure many feel the same way that it will be missed. Hope Capt Bill is doing well.

Love kayaking in Stonington, I do my part every year to keep the mosquitoes well fed. Very well fed, lol. Did I mention the mosquitoes?

LOL! Yes, the mosquitoes can be tough, but wind and some stiff DEET usually does the trick.

When interviewing someone who is already hard to understand, you can make it impossible by adding loud music....🤪

And if you move your family to Maine you are treated like you have leprosy by the locals.

Was this before or after COVID? Last summer I worked at a local store, and people were coming in willy nilly with No mask. Now summer people are all wearing one. I think that when you move to a new place, you need to respect that we are all hard working, and standing in the middle of the street expecting us to drive around you? If we tried that in the city, we`d get run over. i don`t know what you have experienced, but if you are friendly, chances are, you will get friendliness in return

Also lots of people were telling me they came here to get away from COVID, and they didn`t do the quarantine. They would be in the store the very next day. Yeh we had zero problem until that happened
