There's not a really need for a complete new game by GW, we have some super fans made very good revised rules and an expanded set of new fleets and ships, absolutly free. So I'm sure that we're lucky if GW is not so interested to a new set of rules.
This game is brilliant, it only started to creak at the seems as they began adding fleet after fleet in the traditional GW power creep. Before adding Necrons it was pretty solid with any match up. You also had enough in a box for two people to have plenty to play with and it was common for people in my area to each buy a box and trade the ships they weren't interested in. You would quickly end up with 8 cruisers for your fleet, enough to really get a battle going! Sadly if GW ever redoes this they will much up the ship models to jack up the price and make a single box something like $130. I haven't given them one penny since 3rd edition Space Hulk.
the Remastered rules which really are just a consolidation of the big blue book, Armada, and the 2010 FAQ are really great. i don't actually think Necrons are that bad! you need to focus fire on crippling or killing a capital ship. if you're able to do that, you probably win since they're worth two or three times their cost in VPs!

You can find the rules online. There is also a lot of fan content. I know the miniatures are expensive. You would be better served in my opinion use miniatures from other companies as substitutes. Heck, Amazon has sets of 144 plastic spaceships for like $10.
There are some great substitutes for ships on Shapeways. Some of them are of really nice quality and it's generally cheaper than originals on Ebay. As for those who are obssessed by intellectual property, the game is out of production and no longer supported. GW doesn't make money out of BFG at the moment, so it's fine if you find 3rd party ships to play that defunct game. It's pretty safe to say it won't see a second edition for a long time.

I wish this one was coming back, shame when i asked at the Warhammer World open day a while back one of the specialist games designers said "we would need to take two years off two of our existing titles to work on it so its not on the cards". Maybe someday.
Nice bat rep, we're still playing bfg as well. But I am not sure with some rule interpretations. For example, do you roll for every cobra while flying through the asteroids? It's a squadron, so only one roll, right? Bfi before the hit rolls. Torps getting destroyed, if they hit a planet. You can't pick blast markers in the end, which came in the same turn.
"You don't see Devastations very often..." Not my experience, although post-Spec Games fan tweaks may have changed that. The Devs are far cheaper and easier to fit in a fleet and perform excellently as circling snippers using their 60cm broadside lance to finish off targets while hurling ordnance (usually assault boats) at the enemy. Styx are expensive, cost you a heavy cruiser slot, and while they add 6FP of 60cm shooting to their 2 dorsal lances, they're no tougher to kill than a Dev. Their cost means you could get three Devs for two Styx (not that you'd generally go that carrier-heavy anyway at 1000 points), and the Devs would be half again more durable, just as good at chucking ordnance (especially if squadroned up), and 6 lances versus 4 lances and 12 FP at very long range isn't much to choose between.
Great game! You mentioned that there was a way to link battles of 40K, Epic and Gothic. Where could I find those rules, or WD aritcle, or whatever it is?
It's the short range, combined with the fact that they can only throw that much off one broadside, not both - 6 of the 14 FP are coming from the prow guns. 30cm on everything on a ship with 5+ prow armor means you can usually hurt them badly the turn before they get in range themselves, and they absolutely have to close to accomplish anything. Ideally you either cripple them or force them on to brace, take their reduced fire without bracing yourself, then finish them on your next turn with range
Also, they don't synergize very well with any of the other Chaos cruisers, all of whom want to exploit their 45/60cm shooting rather than sprint in to brawl. That's part of why the Slaughters usually show up in multiples, it helps to have 2-3 of them so at least 1-2 get in without having to brace.
@@richmcgee434 You can use your Slaughter as a reserve just slightly behind your line and when you fight an enemy that likes to come close such as the damn imperial corpse worshippers, you use their speed to come out and punish enemies who came too close. A lot of people tend to throw the Slaughter far in front of their line and they tend to get isolated and destroyed piecemeal. It's the kind of ship that needs to work in tandem with other Slaughter with long range support from the rest of your ships.
Curious why there were no rolls or effects for going thru the debris from hits on your ships. Why aren't the tokens fanned out? I recall when you launch 8 torpedoes you make a line of torpedoes 8 width wide. Same with bombers and fighters?
I believe the 2010 compendium change all torps to 3 size, with a d6 to denote power. If you had str8 you would do 2 size 3 tokens with a 6 and a 2 on the dice.
They should have made a Battlefleet gothic Rifts Apart, set just after the fall.of cadia with the Imperial fleet trying to stem the tide if chaos raider.

There are a number of excellent third party models that look great and can be bought for much cheaper than eBay original models. Soulforge studios and Scourge Scenics are two companies people seem to like.
I like this mutch more than star wars armada. Armada is more streamlined but also oversimplified. All the complexity it has comes from very gamy mechanics while the depth 2d space/naval combat could have is not there. When playing Armada i felt like fighting the game mechanics more than the battle itself, it also feel incredibly clunky and fiddly, very frustrating to play in my opinion. Gothic has much more depth in representing abstract naval combat and much less fake depth coming from mechanics.
I like the rules, never cared for the background. I'm a big Star wars fan myself. Just substitute Star wars ships in for the battlefield gothic ones. There is even a fan made adaptation of the battlefleet gothic rules set during the clone wars somewhere on the internet you could with a little looking. They are incomplete but pretty interesting.
Yeah, I played Armada once and I liked it to be honest, but much like X-Wings, I felt much more constrainted in what I could do or not. In addition, the size of the ships in Armada makes it harder to play bigger battles without clogging the table and making manoeuvers complicated.
Jimmy has alot of Chaos Upgrades, The Devastation is at 315 Points for The Warmaster and Slannesh Mark The Murder is at 255 for the Chaos Lord and Nurgle Mark The Slaughter is at 250 for the Chaos Lord and Nurgle Mark The 4 Infidels total 160 Which brings the total to 980. I might be missing an upgrade somewhere but this list gets you pretty close to 1000
@@Nightmare-cr3iw I don't think that putting so many upgrades on his ships really served him. It felt like he missed one cruiser in his setup. I think that having another ship would have made the game very different since Ash had another cruiser and imperial ones are generally more expensive. Maybe he didn't have more ships painted and ready and had to boost his point values throught upgrades.
I love this game but it costs too much unfortunately! Congratulations for the game, nice battlemat but the ships could be painted better. Excellent game strategy.
Its free mate. All rules, fleet lists are readily available, as well as tokens etc. I bought a fleet 3d printed for £40. BFG is the cheapest game to get into at the minute
That would make all the old ships and terrain pieces irrelevant and scream "cash grab" just like their revival of Titanicus did. If they did revive it they should keep the scale the same so they don't screw over their entire existing playerbase. They're the ones who've kept the proverbial torch burning this whole time, so keeping their fleets relevant is the least GW could do.
I wish WG would bring this game back. I would buy it in a heart beat.

Yes, they're insane. I always thought they were broken. Makes no sense that they have so much firepower for cheaper than Imperial Ships.

It would just clog the table too much in my opinion. At least, this size allows for relatively large fleet while keeping some room to manoeuver.

As others have noted, it would alienate their fans and larger models would clutter the table. Plus everything is measured in centimeters......
