- This was a pretty good speedrun on October 8th, 2014. Route: pastebin.com/Y5...
Prologue: Could be a bit faster with optimal movement. Pretty good RNG.
Chapter 1: Execution was sloppy in some areas; one encounter that is easy to avoid. Could've been 20 seconds faster. RNG was pretty good at least.
Chapter 2: Second try on Speedy Spin RNG, so I lost 20 seconds there. Execution was nearly perfect though.
Chapter 3: Poor overall; two encounters. RNG was fine but execution was lacking. Can be around 25 seconds faster.
Chapter 4: Bad RNG with the Sky Guy, so I lost about 35 seconds to that. Good RNG on Lantern Ghost, and only mistake was grabbing the Shooting Star in terms of execution. Can be about 40 seconds faster.
Chapter 5: Bad RNG on the Spear Guy and another random encounter, but Mt. Lavalava was virtually unbeatable. Can be about 15 seconds faster.
Chapter 6: Two random encounters and lost time to bad RNG on the Spike fight; nearly perfect aside from that. Can be 45 seconds faster.
Chapter 7: Lost 40 seconds to two encounters and initially forgetting the Jammin' Jelly.
Chapter 8: Bad RNG on Duplighosts and a Dry Bones fight, losing around 30 seconds. A platforming error early on cost me about 8 seconds. Doesn't really matter because the last three fights had insanely good RNG.
In other words, this will be difficult to PB on because those time calculations are assuming RNG as good as this run (which was above average) and this run had overall great movement. I don't see this category getting faster than 3:56 without revisions to the route that would make things a lot riskier, but faster. In a 4-hour run though, it's arguably not worth it to make routing revisions that are riskier.

2ish years ago Stryder's ex from when they were both dumb kids decided she needed attention so posted a twitlonger alleging him to have been abusive (all kinds) in their relationship instead of talking to law enforcement. Stryder made his own big post largely debooking her claims and making it pretty clear (imo) she's a big liar.
tl;dr - bpd ex flinging shit on socials over a mediocre relationship from half a decade ago.
I hope Stryder sues her for defamation.

honestly I enjoy glitchless better than glitched or any% because it means we get to see more of the game. Plus personally I find glitchless runs to be a better metric of a player's skill to adapt to a bad situation on the fly rather than just being able to execute a glitch from muscle memory to skip large chunks of the game.
i use this video as bacground noise so i remain focused on homework, and i've run though this video atleast 3 times
I just recently discovered your channel, and it's great to see and hear that there is such a large community of Paper Mario fans. Ever since I first played the game as a rental from my local video store, it's been my favorite game of all time. You really did it justice. I was happy to see this run done glitch-less, and your commentary was superb. Great job man, I can't wait to see what comes next.

My family is full of smart a**es, and i did this enough times when i was younger, choosing videos that were 30+mins long, that my mom had to add "a reasonable Length" or add a cap, like " 1 ten minute video before bed"
I have enough time to watch videos that are 1 hour or over without being bored

You did a lot of really good work with that music swapping.
I actually like how critical he is of himself. The only reason why is because he knows he can be better. He will get far in life not just in speed running and that makes me feel good.

You not only explained the strategies used in the run, but also gave some thoughts on the story, explained your mistakes and even gave info on some glitches.

Okay, 2 things - one: this is my fave speed run video. I know it’s very old but I think Stryder does such a great job at commentary. Really informative. Also i appreciate that it’s done for the TH-cam viewer, unlike most speed run commentary that is done for live-streams or live audiences. This is such a rare find and it really makes a difference in my opinion.
And two - I think it’s so funny that Stryder hates that Peach cake segment. I remember as a kid my sister and I loved that Peach cutscene, and we would mess up the cake on purpose sometimes just for laughs. Lol good times

I enjoyed this speed run much more than any of the others I've watched. Not sure why, probably a mix of the music, the commentary and the fact it's Paper Mario! Either way you've earned a like and sub - great video!

+Stryder7x DUDE! I discovered a glitch by mistake! I somehow made Goombario fly at the beginning of the game! Worst of all, I meant to have this run be a glitchless run! I think I made Goombario fly after I put on the Hammer Throw badge.
What part of the game? Was it while obtaining Hammer Throw, by any chance?
+Stryder7x Yes, when I obtained Hammer Throw. (For some reason I didn't know how to spell Prologue). I'm no Paper Mario Glitcher, so I recommend trying it yourself and try to figure it out. Also, I was using the US Wii U version. So I recommend trying it on the US Wii U to test it. But you can also try the Japanese Wii U version.
I think it has something to do with opening a Treasure Chest at a certain time after hitting a spring. Partners get kind of frozen in midair. I've not been able to replicate the glitch on my own, but I've seen people do it with other treasure chests.
I've always loved Speedruns with solid commentary, and this one definitely delivers. Perfect for background noise while doing other things.
Sometimes I come back to this video just to have something to listen to.
I find myself coming back to this video every so often, cause I just enjoy having this play in the background of whatever I'm doing and honestly your voice is really nice to listen to ^^

Congrats on the WR Stryder! As disappointed as I am this didn't happen on stream, your commentary more than makes up for it. As an aspiring PM speedrunner I found the explanations of the little tricks you use to be invaluable. I'll probably be watching this a ton. This was a beautiful run, and I can't wait for the next one
+Stryder7x I do have a theory of my own. Goombario didn't hop on the spring, and when I landed, Goombario jumped, so I think I paused the game while Goombario was in midair, I don't think the badge has anything to do with the glitch. And no, his animations had not been glitched, I actually don't know if he is even flying, cause when I standed still, Goombario used his idle animation, but when I walk, Goombario uses one of his falling/jumping sprites.
I'll have to try messing with it sometime so we can figure out what's happening. Thanks for the info!

The reason the boat lands in the airship docks and doesn't go up to peach's castle itself is because of parking laws. If he leaves it up top, it'll be hauled away by the sky police, mario would have to pay a huge fine to get it back, and it would be a huge infraction on the star spirit's insurance record causing their premiums to sky rocket. Just because the princess is in trouble doesn't mean it's time to be reckless, gosh.
Hearing the voice from Stryder of 2014 shocked me.
There should be a bathroom% where you plant the beanstalk as quickly as possible and then go to the bathroom.

I only recently discovered you, Stryder7x, and seeing your glitch/exploit videos, along with this speedrun has me on a nostalgia trip. PM64 was always my favorite N64 title growing up and I can't fathom being able to do what you do, and I actually consider myself pretty good at the game.

awesome run! Ive been completing this game once every few years since it came out, such a fun 64 game and always an intermediate challenge! Great to see other Paper Mario 64 Fans!
The world record is better by just 1 minute and 15 seconds. If that goes to show how much each second matters.

Super informative in addition to being entertaining - Even though I've played this game multiple times and even started a playthrough on my TH-cam channel, I still found plenty of time-saving tips and tricks on this that I'll use for casual gameplay moving forward.

Have listened to this video countless times in podcast-like fashion. One of my favorite videos on youtube.
I think it'd be cool to try speedrunning a game, but I have a learning disability that impairs my fine motor skills and essentially makes quick, precise inputs almost impossible. It's also why I don't play many fighting games outside of Smash.

BEEELEEE A little late, but if you're interested you could try playing some lesser known TBS games with less emphasis on movement and be competitive. Possibly some RTS's where you can be a little less precise?
Some ideas, but not knowing your tastes I can only recommend so much.

Genres change all the time. Led Zeppelin was called metal when they first appeared in the 70's. They're obviously not metal by today's standards. So I just think it's very wrong to call Avenged Sevenfold metal.
Death growls are usually restricted to certain niches of metal. I listen to a lot of metal bands, but they rarely ever use death growls.
It's mostly a stereotype, and one that's very annoying when trying to explain to someone why metal is so good.
