Does adjusting the fine tuning of your USB on those frequencies help decode better? Like when you hear voice SSB, you of course have fine tune up or down to hear the normal voice. So I have a Tecsun PL-330 and it does have a LSB/USB calibration where you tune to a strong AM signal, then zero beat it and hold down a certain key to calibrate to the zero beat. Which I do from time to time. But seems to me this mode would decode better if you have your USB fine tuned really well. I currently don't have any HF rigs so this is kind of nice to at least get partially familiar with the mode!! I'll also try this with my Malahit DSP2 also. I assume this mode is always USB? Even below 10mHz?? Am I right?

Hey Mark! Yes, it is always USB. The majority of users use the established frequencies for FT8. These are defined in WSJT-X and I would say the majority of users use cat control so, unless their VFO is off, users will be spot on the appropriate frequency. If you calibrate to a well known signal you should be all set on the PL-330 for FT8 receiving. Also, I would bet you could do a pretty good job calibrating your radio to one of the FT8 frequencies with the aid of FT8RX! I hope that answers your question. Thanks for watching and commenting. 73!

Cool, I didn't know you could do that. I must give it a try. Thanks.

Nice video Rob, thanks for sharing. Do you have a cable from the phone to radio or using the phone near by w/o a cable? Catch you on the satellites.

Hi Terry, No cable. The audio is just picked up over the phones microphone. The phone does a pretty good job. Thanks for watching!

And what is your link between the radio and phone?.

Hi Charles! The phone's microphone is picking up the sound "over the air". That is the cool part about it. All you need is a radio capable of single side band in the ham frequencies (most shortwave radios) and the app on your phone!

I have a couple of folks who have stations and don't run FT8. This might be a good way of show how good their station would work on FT8. Thanks for doing that. 73

Hi Jeff! Yea I was really impressed with how well that little antenna could pic up the DX and then how the decoder could decode those stations over the air. I think it is pretty cool. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Thanks for watching Dilap! Nice to see a comment from India! Years ago, I had the pleasure of visiting New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Agra. India is such an amazing country! 73
