The frequency range of 380-403 GHz is actually used for various military and government applications, including radar, communication, and surveillance systems.
After a year+ the radio is still working great. It responds well to specific antennas. The battery is keeping a good charge. The AR-500 antenna performs well. I was pulling down 80m and 40m all night just last night at full extension.
I just got onje of these. BTW, I paid $275. It is beyond cool and an extremely capable receiver. Amazing sound quality and the best NR in the business. No regrets paying the $$ for this radio!
Best all band receiver I’ve purchased, including anything by Tecsun. I found the supplied antenna to work very well, but better with long wire. Audio loud and free of static. Make sure you buy v1.40. Cost a lot, but priceless in a shtf situation.
It's ma-la-hit(малахит). In English it'd be called malachite. Like the gem. Originally a Russian design, now made by a multi-national company. Manufactured in Belarus and China. Malachite devices are very popular in eastern Europe from what I can see.
Dang, this is a radio geek's dream just look at the frequency coverage 10kHz-380MHz 404MHz-2GHz AM FM and SSB. it recieves ALL the ham band. Baofengs don't receive the 220 mhz ham band or the 900 mhz ham band or the 1.2 GHz ham band like this one does.
You’re absolutely fun & hilarious to hear. 🤣 I love your side jabbing of all idiots that try to debunk or make idiotic near-sighted comments, before weighing in all the bells, whistles and positive attributes a product may have, like the Ma-La-Hi-T 😊 Dsp2. Keep up the excellent production, your hand 🖐️ signals keeps a smile on my pensioner dial long after I have finished watching.😊😊😊👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Best regards 🇿🇦
Randy, you sounded a little unsure at the beginning, almost like you could not believe you were really going to review this. Great Job but to rich for my blood but if I had the extra cash it looks like a very fun toy.
I have it, I really like it BUT I wish it had a telescoping built in antenna like Countycomm GP7, as well as the external antenna attachments. That way when moving you have an antenna that doesn't risk breaking off and when stationary you can attach your other antennas
My guess for DSB would be Double Sideband. Why they would include that, I do not know, because any SSB receiver can receive DSB. There may be another meaning. 🤔
I think the original one was designed in Russia and China copied it. The newest version that you have there can decode FT8, RTTY, AND CW as well, which is pretty damn cool considering most amateur radios can't do that!
Holy 480 Batman. I will say it does appear to be packaged nicely though. I'll stick with my little 30 dollar RTL-SDR which I can use with my phone as well as a computer. But mine doesn't start at 10 khz, it starts at 500 khz and goes to 1.7 my giggle hurts. I don't think it excludes the 381-403 range either but not 100% on that. To be honest it was fun to play with for a couple of weeks and haven't touched it since. :)
I have the DSP1, and it was worth every penny. No need to buy the new one, i would imagine it does the same thing. i also go to online sdr sites and listen to stations all over the world on my computer.
Hey Randy the Boofwang UV-5R kit is on a lightning deal on Amazon right this sec. Comes with two batteries, a programming cable, a lapel mic for looking important, etc. all for $29.
@9:10 DSB is "double side band" if I am not mistaken. I think. As in, lower sideband and upper. How it is different than AM, I do not know. I am a dork in training.
I had the DSP 2. It was ok, but you still needed an outdoor antenna to receive really good audio. I sold 8t and bought a Si4732 ATS-25MAX. A whole lot cheaper, and received just as good. But nothing beats my knight star roamer that I built in 1968 from an allied radio kit. Still incredible
Wow, that is nice! I still use my 20 year old Grundig Yacht Boy. It was $300 in the 80s! That radio I sweet, love the touch screen. Now, to talk the wife into letting me get one 🙄.
A shame that this freebie review says so little about the radio. (FYI, it excludes a band around 400 MHz because that is the frequency at which the processor works and it's not possible to screen that out.)
@@TheNotaRubicon not sure where I got GPS from (temporarily brain damage on my part) but this chart does show use for some sort of navigation. www.ntia.doc.gov/files/ntia/publications/2003-allochrt.pdf
I have a uv-390 plus. Using the surecom sw-102 between the radio and it's 15" whip version it came with, having the power on high, when I transmit the power goes up to around 12w then back down to zero then back up to 12ish and does that till I let go up the PTT button. Any explanation? Thanks.
I was *about* to bash you for asking a totally off-topic question.. But then i saw that beautiful badge next to your name! Not sure whats going on, but I would start by checking all your connections.. and I assume you have the antenna or a dummy load connected to the other side of the SW102? If not, be sure to connect the antenna/dummy load.. If that doesn't fix it you might have to call the place you bought it from for support.
Sorry, I wasn't sure if you check new comments made on older videos since I didn't see a direct way to message you. Yes, the meter is attached between the radio and the antenna. Have you ever seen or heard of someone's radio fluctuating power like that?
No.. just to confirm its not the meter that is messed up, when you talk to someone over the radio does your signal fade in and out? if so, i would send it back. if not, it might be a problem with the meter.
I will have to try that. When I put my hand around the base of the antenna when hooked to the meter it works better. Low 1ish watt, medium 4.5ish watts and high 10-11 watts(whole setup laying down on table. Poweelr levels seemed more consistent too. Thoughts? When I tried the meter outside between the 390 plus(using surecom simplex repeater for my house) and the lmr400 going to a Tram 1486-B(uncut so far) the power wouldn't go anywhere on high and swr said 19.99 and that swr reading is still stuck there even after hitting the yellow clear button. The only ground on the outside antenna is the 3 rods on the antenna base. Radio and meter lay in a plastic box on the ground. Thank you again!
I heard that the FCC is punishing people that are using Ham radios without a license in Lebanon. They want to set an example so you take the Ham exam. 🤣🤣
Hello, I have a Malahit-DSP2 with Firmware 2.40. How can I receive in the 23cm band. I am passionate about radio frequency beginner level. Thank you for your time. 73!

The skipped frequencies are not in the giggle hertz range.

The AR-500 antenna performs well. I was pulling down 80m and 40m all night just last night at full extension.
$480.00 WOW, I hope Baofeng comes out with their own version of this radio so I can afford one. Most informative video as always.
Found it on radioddity's website for 429.
Dude, look at you, expanding your horizons. I'm sure "some people" will have something to say.
I hope that pager is turned off!

Randy, you are a NATURAL and we love you brother!
This guy is such a nut. I enjoy him referring to his audience as radio dorks, with his dozens of handhelds flashing in the background.
I had an air band in college. I wonder if it has a way back function so I can listen to some of our air tunes.
I just got onje of these. BTW, I paid $275. It is beyond cool and an extremely capable receiver. Amazing sound quality and the best NR in the business. No regrets paying the $$ for this radio!
Where did you find it at that price?
Where ?
In Canada it is over $1,000 for the Malachite SDR V2.4 DSP2,10kHz-380MHz & 404MHz-2GHz Radio Receiver.
Best all band receiver I’ve purchased, including anything by Tecsun. I found the supplied antenna to work very well, but better with long wire. Audio loud and free of static. Make sure you buy v1.40. Cost a lot, but priceless in a shtf situation.
@Quietus6 Err 2.40 👍
Out of my disposable income range. Enjoyed the review. Maybe my one day my ship will come in but it looks like a submarine right now.
So glad I got my boof wangs before the recent upgrade to boom wangs
Gracias senior!
I’ll never buy one of those sw receivers, but I’m grateful that you shared this review with me, your favorite viewer. 🤟
This is indeed California.
I just ordered my latest boofwang in the assumption that the the new boomfwang radios were not yet in the distribution channel.
no background music
this is wonderful
I reached out to them for a review and they sent me one out at no cost. Can’t beat free.
I am going to try the same
That’s a nice unit
I prefer watching your videos than being watching TikTok
what happened to your background music? miss it
I loved the "not real radio" reference. We love our FT8

I memorized the test so I can operate appliances.
I'm just guessing, but I'd say > 70% of his regular audience are hams.

DSB is Double Side Band. Take an AM signal and remove just the carrier. But if you have a DSB signal, SSB can also decode it.
Ohhh.. I need a towel and a cigarette after that touch screen reveal... Soooo good.
I had to change my sock.

A shame that this freebie review says so little about the radio. (FYI, it excludes a band around 400 MHz because that is the frequency at which the processor works and it's not possible to screen that out.)
Man I was really looking forward to a ICOM HT video today 😮💨
Didn't all the Icom's explode?
The omitted frequencies are used in pacemaker transmission, and can affect the functionality, which is bad for the heart.
It's a very cool radio but for that kind of money it would be nice if it used generic batteries like 18650s or something
Hey, how come the guy in the background pic still has his fingers? 😀

It is nicely constructed, though.
It probably detects PKE too. (for that price it should)

That Malahah radio didn't come from Lebanon or China did it MrNota??
Nope. It comes from Russia…
