I wish we had this kind of technology in the 1990's when I was a shortwave listener. Shame all the broadcast station are off air. Although the 41 meter band is very active in the evenings for international stations. FT8 is useful for checking propagation. If your not interested in transmitter it. Very happy you got FT8 working on the ATS Max. David M0DUU
All broadcast stations are not off the air. People are still listening to broadcast stations. Perhaps not as many as before, but definitely not all the broadcast stations are off the air.
A feature that may not be known, in the firmware is. If you are listening to two different frequencies, even across bands, if you tap down and hold on the frequency readout until it turns from white to yellow, then let up, it will jump to your second frequency. Like two VFOs. Back and forth.
I ordered the ATS20+ from Ali Express, then watching your videos on the ATS25 max-Decoder radio fell for it as well and ordered it as well, can't wait to try it out, 73's😊
Just be aware there are different versions of the the ATS 25 max Decoder. I have the Jstvro with the latest firmware installed on it and the setting page says Harduino not Jstrvo. There is no LNA, Bluetooth or Hi-Z in the radio, only the Decoder is available. So make sure you check before you buy. All max Docoder models are not the same.
@@HamTechRadioScannerDrones I have noticed you show off the orange CB section and the ability to change USB LSB and AM but you can shift the frequency 5khz by touching it and you have 3 banks of frequency A-E, +A-E and -A-E and you can turn the BFO on and off when in LSB or USB all of this by touch.
Good question? I would be looking for in the description of the radio, that it has the, LNA, Bluetooth, and HiZ Antenna feature. The Max Decoder was advertised on the Harduino webpage as having all features working but then I found out the hard way, it did not. I got mine from Amazon. So read the whole description and reviews to find out what that particular Max Decoder has.
@@ominkan3129 I got the same non LNA/HiZ version, but have good success running a cheap low noise moderate gain external LNA. The FW was better on mine than the LNA versions that were available at the time, included CW decoding and it is an officially authorized version which can support online firmware update. Along with a 4Ah battery vs. 3Ah on others. I'm still very happy with it. I find many open source Chinese products are often priced more in proportion to what you get than trusting their version of truth about advertised features from many sellers. .
I was wondering what the difference is between the ATS 25 x 2 vs this Max decoder, is it just able to decode rtty . Or does it have more band width and specs?
Hi im thinking about getting into this hobby, would you recommend this kind of device, ats 250 max, malachite v4 or a rtl dongle type, considering a low starting budget. Thanks.
I have one i just received - when i try to add the Wifi -- i can enter my Password and then save, but now i can not enter it to try again in case i got it wrong the first time, I even reset it to factory settings and i still can not get to the screeen to enter another Password. Do you know how to do it?
@@HamTechRadioScannerDrones I looked into your Video -- i can get to the screen that shows my Wifi Signal - i click on the 3 lines now and it does nothing-- i can't get back to the screen where i can enter my Wifi Router password again for some reason, i tried resetting the Unit back to Factory settings and turned it back on-- went back to the wifi setting screen and still can not get to the screen to re-enter the wifi password. I am either missing a step or the Unit is not working correctly.
Just bought ATS 25 AMP no instructions in box. I cannot get it working after 3 hrs trying. I have to send it back. Tried wip antenna tried long wire = nothing!
@@HamTechRadioScannerDrones think it’s angry 😠 hissing at me 😂 seriously tried every possible band and frequency. Awaiting on a loop antenna to arrive Monday. But I should be getting something?
I have tried it against a Malachite DSP v5 using the same antenna (an improved MLA-30+) and listening on the same frequencies in 40m LSB. It is able to pick up the same signals loud or faint. However the ATS25 has much more background noise. It does miss the same noise reduction that you have on the Malachite and that is outstanding. On the decoding part this is very poor. it does a lot of mistakes in CW and RTTY even on loud signals. For FT8 it is only capable of decoding one or two transmissions at a time. This is no wonder FT8 and its LDPC FEC takes a lot of computing power. It takes a beefy enough computer with multiple CPUs to be able to decode multiple transmissions in the same time slot. The S-meter on SSB is way out of calibration and cannot be trusted to estimate the sensitivity of the receiver. In broadcast FM it shines with a super fast RDS decoder. I would not call it fantastic but it is a fun little toy to play with. Having said that thanks a lot to M0FXB for his detailed review.

I’ve been eyeballing this receiver for a couple months now, guess I’ll grab one and tune around.
You will love it .
After viewing your videos, I’ll take your word for it!
Qual antena está usando ?
9.1 Balina & 66ft wire
I plan to use a 11 meter dipole external antenna that I used with my cobra 29Ltd C.B radio.
How many memories do you can store? And can you memorize the name too? Thanks
