    In the beginning the lyrics are "Belial, Behemoth, Beelzebub, Asmodeus, Satanas, Lucifer". It's neither Latin nor backwards, just a list of names of demons/pagan deities/Biblical monsters & the Devil.

    Also note: lyrically speaking, Infestissumam (which is supposed to mean "very/most hostile" in Latin) picks up from where their debut album Opus Eponymous left off.
    It ended with "Genesis", the birth of the Antichrist, the second album continues from the Antichrist's birth onwards.
    According to one of the Nameless Ghouls: "Everything on the first record was about a coming darkness, an impending doom. Whereas the new record is about something present, and literally, the new record deals with the presence of the Anti-Christ, the Devil. But subliminally, the meaning of it is more how mankind-- predominantly men-- what they have deemed to be the presence of the Devil, throughout history and even nowadays. And that’s why the record is so fueled with sexual themes and females. That’s basically it, the Inquisition was basically men accusing women of being the Devil just because they had a hard-on for them." So that's pretty much the theme of the album in question.
    Of course, none of the band members were actually satantists. This is more of a tongue-in-cheek kind of deal.

      and the special track on the opus is the "heres comes the sun" (the sun is a reference to "son" son of lucifer who apears in the infestissuman album

    This is an awesome song. It is really a song to see live with them, its one of those songs that gets the whole crowd going.
    Ghost is a very interessting band. Their songs have alot of ways they can be interpreted. One thing, which shows mostly on their first 3 albums, is critism of religion, specially western religion. BUT... from their 3 album and forward, they started to have alot of.. well... sex in their. The song Monstrance Clock, which most takes as a dark mass hymn sort of song, is, infact, about the female orgasm, but very cleverly hidden.
    On a whole other note, I saw the back in... 2017 I think it was, the show that closed that tour (Gothenburg, in Sweden), and it was played in an amusement park, called Liseberg. 10 000+ people at the show. I remember bursting out laughing, as I realised I dont think that many people have ever beeing singing/screaming "Hail Satan!" in an amusement park, aimed towards families. 😂

      In medieval motets, they used a cantus firmus (or fixed melody), kinda like what you were hearing. They have a discant (additional melody), and a whole bunch of silly interval rules. During the renaissance and into the baroque period is when polyphony was integrated more. Check out the Hildegard motets. She was one of the first identifiable composers of western music. 🙂

Looking forward to your new release. -- Everything in the beginning of the song is spelled forward (tl;dr various names for the devil), "Belial, Behemoth, Beelzebub, Asmodeus, Satanas, Lucifer". If you play a drinking game listening to the first two albums, whenever the devil is mentioned you'll pass out before the end.

    Love the reaction and analysis as always. Something worth noting with Ghost is that even though the lyrics tell a conceptual story, usually about Satan, that is just a surface level element. Every song is also about more relatable topics of humanity. For example Mummy Dust is about how money and greed have corrupted humanity. They just use the concept of Satan as symbolism. Infestisumam is about what men in power or the church have historically associated with the evil or the Devil, mainly sex and women (wrongfully of course since those things are natural).

  • @balamx2802
    @balamx2802 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    The song opens with some of the Devil's names: "Belial, Behemoth, Beelzebub. Asmodeus, Satanas, Lucifer." The title is a play on when the founder of the Church of Satan, Anton LaVey, declared 1966 "Year One A.S. (Anno Satanas), the First Age of Satan." The music was mostly composed by the Nameless Ghoul "Omega" (Martin Persner) with Forge writing the lyrics and arranging the song.

      Some of those are non-Satan demons or monsters. In Biblical sense, Behemoth is a powerful animal/creature made by God in the beginning of creation that only he could control. It is paired with the sea serpent creature called Leviathan. Asmodeus is supposed to be the King of Demons who was created by Satan.

    • @balamx2802
      @balamx2802 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@TECfan1 Yes, you're right, but I was trying to be succinct in my explanation. I didn't feel like breaking down what each name meant. Belial is the demon of lawlessness. Beelzebub is the Lord of the Flies. When the Devil was in Heaven, he was Lucifer, but when he fell, he became Satan. Lucifer is Pride and Satan is Temptation.
