@@gardiner_bryant its good to get feedback so you can fix issues like this but i don't think it really effected the quality or info that you explained in this vid. also its great to see you on nerd nest you should definitely be a regular on there with the knowledge you have with linux and the sd and everything associated with the gaming community overall

Speaking of Proton and CD/DVD stuff, it's been a good while, but the last time I tried to use Proton with a Blu-ray playing app it couldn't find the disc. Wine could. They probably haven't been prioritising physical media drive access, so that stuff would maybe slip under the net, but hopefully that's changed now.
Being able to swap the weapon right sticks or track pads is amazing because they stupidly put the trackpads and joysticks backwards so I'm always configuring the left trackpad to do the stuff I want the right trackpad to do and vice versa. Being able to hit a single button to change that would be amazing
YES! I have been hoping for the L/R control swap across since I got the Deck! Because so many otherwise solid control templates that people share just have opposite stick, triggers, and/or pads than what is actually intuitive to me. So this is great!
There is another way to transfer files via USB? Because deck mtp is not working
Nintendo realizing that we can play their games better on other devices then on an actual switch is having them freaked out right now they're not just scared they're full I'm freaked out and I'm loving every minute of it. I'm waiting for Valve to shoot the nail in the coffin of every single video game company by coming out with a desktop computer that they call a console just like the Steam Deck but more powerful and stationary.

I'd like to see a follow up on Sim City 3000, if possible. I actually found my disc when going through my music binder. (I've been trying to sort out stuff that's been stored away for ages)

now vibrant deck also doesn't work anymore in the previous SteamOS version.
They fixed full screening videos in steam! For the past 6 months if you did that in steam it'd visually glitch out, now it works fine again!
To other Steam Deck users out there... Do you guys have a problem that the Steam Deck's internal speakers stop working after you have connected it to an external display. I have had it like this for several updates. Only a restart will fix the issue (I connect to my monitor directly via usb-c).... Do other people have this problem with this or is it a specific problem with my setup?
You have the option when you first plug it in. It will be burried in settings

@@Mob135 I mean, even if I go into the settings and change to "speakers" instead of "External device"... nothing will happen. the UI sounds won't work on the speakers of the device. Not until the device is rebooted... I just found it weird. I have reported it as a bug, but It doesn't seem like it is widespread.
@@PixelShade i use it regularly. If i wfh for the evening I'll plug it in and get back to you but it sounds like you have a problem. Might even be the dongle or monitor 🤔
I experienced something similar. I can't remember how I fixed it, but try going into desktop mode and fiddle with the audio settings.
With regard to how little you see of people having XBox consoles, I think this also may have more to do with the circles you run in. Most of the folks I know who don’t have PCs, have XBox consoles. I have several in my home. If we want to make comparisons, Microsoft looks a helluva lot more gamer friendly than Sony… lest we forget the uproar over Helldivers 2 last week. Xbox isn’t a joke… it’s actually pretty great. I can play gamepass games on my Steam Deck through Edge, and it’s pretty good! PS can’t do that.

Exactly my thoughts. I Just bought the xbos series x, great console, and many games....
I'm still using Yuzu to this day on my SteamDeck and PC! 😂
No fix for wifi on LCD model
Hey everyone, including Gardiner! I bought the Steam Deck right when it was released but ended up selling it about three months later. The main reason was the need for extensive tweaking to get it running smoothly.
Now, I'm curious: has there been a significant improvement in the Steam Deck's performance, eliminating the need for constant tinkering to enjoy games? Also, are there any hints or news about a potential new version of the Steam Deck on the horizon? I'm considering buying it again, so any insights would be appreciated!
Even though the Steam Deck is a Consolified Computer it is still a Computer.
If you are running just newer games (not older than 10yo) bought through Steam it will require little configuration aside from in game graphical settings.
Anything other than that will require tinkering because PCs are not consoles.
It does facilitate PC gaming compared to a regular Desktop PC but it's never gonna be full plug and play, unless it goes full console, which is not Valve's intention.
If that's what you want stick with PS5, Xbox and Switch.
@@Rafael-uk2ut Frankly, aside from maybe adjusting my graphical settings, I don't have to tweak anything for the (admittedly limited) games I play on Deck. Emulators work with very little fuss (specifically Dolphin and PCSX2). as well as the following games for some reference:
Rocket League
Celeste
Monster Hunter World
Black Ops 2 Zombies
DiRT Showdown/Rally
Overwatch
Probably some others
Games that run (poorly or with performance issues):
Hunt: Showdown
The Finals
Also probably a couple of others. Admittedly both of these run, they're just intensive games that the Deck lacks the power for

I encouraging people to get together, simple games made in Godot run very good in Steam deck, the raw power of the steam deck lays beyond linux. Indie developers are the future of the gaming industry.
The TH-camr “Moon Channel” seems to have some excellent and Thorough legal explanations for Nintendo’s actions and motivations. I believe the hypothesis is that they are building a case against all emulation based on the circumvention of copy protections. If you are going to make emulators, keep your head down, don’t try to make money off of it, even through Patreon, and neither break the copy protections nor include Ninty IP. Let users provide their own files for anything Nintendo might feel is suspicious.

i bought the CnC games on steam because they don't need to be logged into EA, at least i didn't see anything about that on the store site. and as long as i don't need a second account, or even worse, a second client, i'll buy games that i like. which probably means i wont ever buy ubisoft games again and only old EA-games/remakes, since all their new titles need their client
I just want to use HDMI again. Three months ago HDMI stopped working while my wife and I had to stay at the hospital due to my her water breaking 2 months early. It hasn't worked since.
There are no updates to the steam Deck LCD version
By the way steam os 3.6 is in preview its a good update I recommend updating thay got some new features 😊
In regards to playtronOS I question how they are claiming to be running epic launcher when the CEO of epic is on record hating linux and wants nothing to do with the OS.

Something is off with the audio in this edit. It's fine, but there are 4 or 5 instances where I'm getting audio from a cut that doesn't match, or audio too early on a J cut, etc.
It's pretty distracting.

I updated and it bricked my steam deck and I had to reset it 😵💫
I’m still mainly on the deck, but I just switched back to PlayStation and got a ps5. Xbox is moving their games to other platforms, no upcoming exclusivity that I can thing of, and Xbox it sounds like even they stopped believing in the consoles.
I just guess almost no one with a steam deck will install playtron ;-D and almost no one will install it on a rog ally or other windows devices. So for whom is playtron actually? loool

When it comes to Nintendo, the answer is always.. because its Nintendo; they've been like this since emulators and fan projects existed; they're rabid dogs. There is some legal requirement to protect an IP, but they have always gone nuke-from-orbit approach. As someone who built some of the first emus, we saw it then, we felt it then, and always will keep feeling the Nintendo pain :/
My take is they take it as a personal offense that their ridiculous attempts to circumvent emulation inevitably lead to advancements in emulation.

Law says 'protect your IP', and Nintendo is like 'okay, kill their families, their puppies, everyone they ever knew, thats what you mean right?' .. theres a space betrween doing what they have to do and what they actually do, and they dont' care to look for that space :/

Is sad that Nintendo is going after emulators from my perspective the problem Gabe solved it the problem is, piracy is a service issue, not a price issue, if Nintendo decides to add the games to Steam I would buy it rather than using an emulator, and I plan to stay on regular GNU/Linux distros to play over playtronOS the blockchain on games is so gross is not a tecnology optimised for games I use cryptocurrency "as currency" the only thing that I want is an option to pay for my games with crypto like Bitcoin Cash nothing more, no blockchain games, play to earn and those strange things that are ridiculous
I wanted Microsoft to acquire Blizzard because they both have the same fundamental problem. They either figure out what they are doing wrong and change, or they collapse all at once and sell off assets to those who know better.
I just hope that we gat Fallout 5 before Bethesda gets murked by Xbox.
I wish if you went to delete. Version of proton it would tell you what games are using it when it doesn’t let you delete it. Idk proton 9 downloaded and for whatever reason I couldn’t remove it despite none of the games in my library using proton 9. I have games that use proton expirmental sure but not 9
It's important to remember that we all live in bubbles! For example in my bubble everyone has an XSX except one person and only a couple have PS5s. I personally prefer Xbox as a platform because IMO it's better that its console competition in every way. Sony makes better games but Xbox is a better system with better features and usability. I'm not a fanboy though so I also own a PS5, Switch, Deck, Ally, etc, etc, etc but I play most of my games on Xbox & PC.
All that being said Xbox has REALLY dropped the ball on games for the last, idk 10 years or so, this most recent move being particularly baffling. It reeks of a decision based solely on numbers by people with no real connection to the business. Either way though, it's an absolutely horrible look for Xbox and NOT what they need at all. It's going to be super hard to come back from this. Trust in the brand is plummeting and the backlash has been tremendous. I can't imagine any response they could give that would satisfy anyone. Closing the studio that made the best, most critically acclaimed game you've produced in the last decade, especially so soon after and with no follow-up game is just mind boggling.

It really sucks that a lot of good people lost their jobs. But we have to stop acting like this doesn't happen in all industries. There's a period of growth where new companies pop up like weeds and everyone is happy. But then there's a culling, the fat gets trimmed, and the business becomes leaner and pivots. Thee the growth starts again, and the cycle continues all over again. We have to stop sensationalizing this and blaming the big company. This is how all of our favorite games came to be. They developers were working some place else. There were shake ups and then they left. They started their own game studios and poof! Our favorite games were created!
Microsoft has been spending billions of dollars to acquire studios left and right just for them to shut them down. This is not "the natural order," this is Microsoft engaging in anticompetitive behavior.

Regarding Phil Spencer, I will not be caught dead defending billionaire CEOs but his job is not easy. I think he has business vision and his ideas are interesting. XBox series S with game pass is the cheapest most bang for your buck way to get into gaming bar none. 250 bucks and you get a current gen console capable of outputting 4k and capable of running all AAA games at 30 fps. With gamepass you have hundreds of games you can play for a while and buy those you like. You can go into dev mode and turn it into an awesome emulation machine and you can run Xbox 360 and Xbox 1 games natively.
But it doesn't matter because as phill Spencer noted, they lost the console war on the generation that mattered the most. What he doesn't say is that they lost it due to poor vision and planning and relying on gimmicks (kinetic) to sell consoles because previous CEO saw the Wii sales numbers and had a massive orgasm so obviously they had to copy it.
So in essence, Phil Spencer is trying to consolidate and shore up microsoft's gaming division and trying to push his IPs. Starfield was a good one. Sold a lot. Far more than it deserves imho. But it sold systems as well. Again, massive uphill battle for him.
The convergence of hardware between PlayStation and Xbox is the reason they continue to lose. Offer something game changing, exotic, and unique. And let your devs make games for IP that people actually care about. Sony does it right. Microsoft doesn't even seem to try.
@@gardiner_bryant the problems of playing catch up. Not helped as they just close studios that have a lot of potential. And that is where CEO mindset comes to play. He should be firing studio CEOs not devs.

I don't think cryptocurrencies are inherently a scam. I do think that all the uses of cryptocurrencies I've seen in games have been very scammy. The only use I've seen that hasn't been is straight up buying a game with cryptocurrency.
All the NFT stuff in games that I've seen has been, and I'm very skeptical that there could be any use of an NFT in a game that wasn't a scam.
Xbox is a joke. Even for Microsoft studios it's better to sell games on PS5. Also gamers prefer to buy games for more. It's in all best interest for Xbox to die. Now, imagine this scenario: the moment Xbox dies, Sony ups prices of all games by 30%, you know why? Because a joke competition is better than none.
Did they add Steam broadcasting yet? or it forever going to miss one of Steams main features. You can pick up any competitor and do broadcasting, you can install windows and do broadcasting. You can remote play on the steam deck but you can't do broadcasting. 2 years after its release. what a joke.
Who tf cares? They have done so much stuff and so many features. You are the only one I've seen that has complained about this. Grow up and use something else if it is such a problem.

I don't know a single person who uses steam broadcasting. sure it'd be nice to have the option in the rare situation someone does but it's absolutely not a priority feature by any means.

@@gardiner_bryant absolutely it's outdated, look I like DS games and understand that was a console. PC is NOT a console performance matters. I owned a steam deck for a couple of weeks and the performance was shit Rog ally is better. We need a steam deck 2 for decent 1080p gaming. And no 720p is useless in 2024 especially when both my laptop and phone have 4k screens. 1080 is a minimum. I do absolutely like steamOS and I use Linux on all my computers and servers. Healthy criticism is valid and good. Echo Chambers are not.
I don't think that matters. You do not buy a handheld for the power. We have laptops for that. Ease, portability, and good games are the reason to buy a handheld.

First, hardware performance *doesn't* matter. The fact that there are so many _other_ handhelds that offer greater performance and have, combined, sold fractions of a percent as many units as the Deck proves it.
Not to mention the Deck has a custom OS and driver stack and a fully bespoke APU that, together, sips power and facilitates handheld gameplay. Meanwhile the others violently cram a mouse-and-keyboard OS down their user's throats? It just shows how little these other companies care about your experience.
Furthermore, the fact that so many studios are still specifically targeting the Steam Deck shows that the typical PC Gamer's obsession with "performance" is wrongheaded. It also proves that the semi-annual hardware refresh cycle is an unsustainable marketing gimmick and not a necessary "innovation" that it pretends to be.
Finally, the SNES continues seeing new software releases to this day. Plus, modern hardware like the **8-bit Guy's** Commander x16 is proof positive that it's the software developer's responsibility to make performant games, not the hardware developer's job to make better chips.

Your definition of "nothing" is specious, my friend.
I don't really care too much about studios being shut down. The people who worked in those studios are still alive. If their studio is being shut down their non-compete clauses are void. They can start a new studio, ideally one with private money so they can make games that they want to make. You don't need to be affiliated with Sony or Microsoft to release games. Not on Steam, and not on Xbox or PlayStation either. Making games is not like making cars, you don't need millions or billions of dollars in real estate and machinery. You don't need long term contracts with materials suppliers who may already be beholden to other big manufacturers. Video game studios can pop up over night like mushrooms. Smaller, less corporate studios are better for producing interesting games. The big main stream boring same old same old franchise games will still be produced by the big studios, and we get more smaller, more unique games to play. I just can't get myself worked up over it.
