@matt Thank you this incredible teachings and money saving hack. I have successfully install Sonoma onto my iMac but it’s is still very slow. I have a 2015 iMac with 8Gb of ram and 1TB in Hard drive, and the storage is pretty much empty. Please do you think the system can still benefit from an external SSD flash drive
Matt at times I wonder why you put effort on making the best out of those abandoned outdated mac books that pple realy don't value because truth be told pple focus on the newest gadgets and give their own reviews after a week, month ,months,or even a year am happy that you make such content for us to be aware of how capable our devices are
Installed on MacBook pro (2016) 13,1'' retina display with touch bar. So far everything works fine. Thank you very much for your instructions and your video.
Matt this tutorial is such an incredible service you have done for the community! For years we've been stuck with these old devices that they force us to recycle. Ive been able to breath new life into my 15inch 2010 MacBook Pro. Really and truly bruv, thank you!!
Hi Matt, tnx, it was really, really helpfull. After I discovered USB stick that is fully compatible with MacOS (SanDisk usb 3.2 64GB works- with some other sticks, the EFI didn’t want to boot - if anyone has the same issue, just use another USB stick. Watch for the compatibility logo at the cover: SanDisk has macOS logo at the cover!), the upgrade to Sonoma at iMac Retina 5K 27-inch Late 2014 (15.1) was smooth and easy. I used OpenCore-Patcher 1.5, it’s just a little different from the one you show (instalatation of the patcher to the boot drive differs, but it runs almost automaticaly). The main reason why I upgrade to Sonoma is that OneDrive (which I use for business reasons) stopped working at BigSur 11.7 OS. Now with Sonoma 14.7 it works again, as well as all MS Office 365 apps (Excel, Word,…). They even upgrade normally now, what they didn’t with BigSur anymore. Thanx a lot, and I hope this experience will also help others. Best!
Hey Matt - love the channel - just wondering, do you have any similar guides for iPadOS 17 for unsupported iPads or could you please reccomend any particular channels' guide? - cheers
Thank you for the wonderful tutorial! I had an error in my 1st attempt, I think it was the USB stick being windows formatted, tried again and I have an update! Can finally get that nasty Xcode requirement, so relieved! Thanks again!
Amazing. I almost took my 2009 macbook pro to an Applestore for recycling recently. Thankfully I didn't get around to it as I've now managed to upgrade to Monterey using your guide, so a huge thank you to you! Alas Sonoma wasn't supported for my Macbook because of a keyboard issue, but there is a workaround using a USB hub it seems. But Monterey is good enough and still supported by Apple for security till end of next year :)
If I had a choice, I'd love to get a 13inch MBA M2 in silver. My old laptop was a 2013 15inch Macbook Pro and it recently got broken. I think the new MBA is the best in terms of price, performance, and portability. By the way, love this new video on an easy guide regarding Mac OS Sonoma! Keep the news coming!
@matt Thank you this incredible teachings and money saving hack. I have a 2015 iMac with 8Gb of ram and 1TB in Hard drive, do you think the system can still benefit from an external SSD flash drive
First of all thank you for your video ❤ Lesson learned 1. Watch full video 😂 2. You need minimum high seira 3. SSD is indeed 4.Ram 8 GB minimum ❤ 5. Processors i5 minimum
Thank you for your help and the video. All so far came out great. Now to reload Native Instruments, logic pro and all that l had with my music. I hope it won't be too difficult. Again thank you very much.
So happy, I managed to install Sonoma 14.1.1 from Catalina on my 2012 MacBook Air using this video. Going to try it on my MacBook Pro 2015 tomorrow, but thank you Matt. Does anyone know, if I can use the existing installer on opencore legacy I created on my usb to get Sonoma, instead of having to do it all over again for my MacBook Pro?
Glad to see you upgraded to Sonoma. What's your review on upgrading to Sonoma? Have you faced any issues with any type of software etc. I am planning to upgrade my Macbook air2015.
- Sonoma on MacBook Air failed for me after it initially downloaded through opencore legacy patcher. I apologise for not updating my initial comment. It wouldn’t let me login back in when typing in the password, so I had to wipe everything and start again. Even after advance spoofing, it just kept failing time and time again. After the first part of the download, it stopped the download and told me I had to be on high sierra or later to be able to download Sonoma. (I was on Catalina for Mac Air & El Capitan for Mac Pro) But in the end I found another solution online. I made a bootable usb through terminal on my MacBook Pro 2015 and downloaded Sonoma onto the Mac Air that way and there has been no issues whatsoever since. -The only slight issues I have really faced with Sonoma has been: - Safari doesn’t allow me to watch playback on their browser for some reason, so I downloaded chrome dmg link off google and now use that with no issues. - Screensaver kept disappearing and turning to a black screen but it stopped doing that after a few days of changing it back to what I had chosen. - Not even sure this is relevant or even Sonoma fault or something which I did myself but when I created a new Apple ID separate from my iPhone, after a few days to a week it kept coming up with Apple ID not active when trying to download apps. I contacted apple support over the phone and got it sorted after they sent me an email to reset. - Overall, I would definitely recommend to anyone, but what I would say is definitely listen to Matt by using Time Machine or something comparable to back up your MacBook because as I experienced every single time I had to reset both my Apple MacBook Air and Pro to factory settings several time and start from scratch download MacOS after MacOS. (No fun at all😂)
I’m stuck I’m running El Capitan I Download Sanoma then get to creat Mac OS installer then the area where it should let me select it it’s grayed out 10:26 at that point
I haven't tried myself yet; however Matt does say in his video make sure you have updated to the latest operating system your Mac can handle before installing Sonoma. Did you do this first?
Hi , I just got an imac 2009 i5 8gb of ram and 1tb hdd running on high sierra. What is the best and latest unsopported ios that it can be updated to ? I will appreciate if you can send me links etc. Thanks James
Can you please make a video of running various software in Macbooks (unsupported) running on MacOS Sonoma. For example, Word, etc. More like an after-use review.
Hi Matt! Are you saying that for MacBooks 2012 or older the following applies? 1. the total RAM in the computer should be 8 GB or more? 2. the total SSD hard drive should be at least 64 GB? Or were you saying that we needed these amounts in addition to what was already in the MacBooks 2012 or older?
Hi Amazing Video & so easy to follow, Are you aware that with Sonoma you are unable to do a Time Maschine Backup, there is a problem with iCloud Sync issue running in the background, so unable to backup, & then do a update for latest Sonoma 14.1.2
Will it work on mid-2012 macbook Air that has 1.8 GHz-dual-core Intel core i5 and 8GB of memory? Should I do something different bc mine has legacy metal GPU (ivy bridge HD4000)? I'd appreciate any assistance with that 🙏🤞
Can I download the software via USB on a different device and then install it into the targeted Macbook?? My mac wont allow me to download the app. Please help im desperate 😅
I have a Macbook Pro from early 2011. I have already upgraded the ram from 8 to 16 gb. I currently have Macos High Sierra on a 500gb hdd. I currently have a 256 gb solid state drive that I can swap for the 500 gb hdd. Will it be possible to upgrade to Sonoma or should I just upgrade to macos 12 Monterey?
Can anyone help? So i've downloaded the latest macos Sonoma on my Macbook pro, however when i've tried to use my 32gb usb stick it keeps failing when i try to use that as a boot drive. Can you use the Sonoma download as an actual update and install that?
Hi i do all your steps but i erase the data on my mac air 13 2013, and then when it completed the instalation and passed the first boot, it says enroll with management server failed, how to fix this? Thank you
I need a little help. I have installed Sonoma latest version. Checked how much memory I have after install and my Mac Air early 2015 is full. I would like to do a clean install to get some memory. I have tried to erase my hard drive. I get an error message that says Erase Assistant cannot erase this Mac because the system has been modified. Reinstall macOS to use Erase Assistant. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.
i followed you steps on macbook pro 2012 but they told me This copy of the install macOS Sonoma application is damaged and can’t be used to installation macOS!!!! so how can i solve this problem?
Hi Matt, after I finished installing Sonoma, The login screen didn`t show up, instead an update screen appeared and an error happened. If I close this screen and boot the mini mac it seems to not have concluded the installation. Have you seen this behavior?
