Thanks and this has breathed new life into my 2014 MacBook Pro. However, I almost killed it with the macOS Sonoma 14.1 update. To all, make sure that you wait for the OpenCore Legacy Patcher update and run that first. Otherwise, you might be unable to reboot your Mac after a macOS update. Thank God I still had my USB boot flash drive and could recover. Thanks again for the tip, and God bless
You are a man. I successfully installed Sonoma 14.2.1 on my MacBook pro mid 2012. It's fast and working perfectly. I increased my Ram to 16gb and changed hdd to 512gb ssd hard-drive. Thank you!!!
I did this a few days ago to my old 15" MacBook Pro Retina, now I have it running in my garage running as a Server with a couple DAS drives in RAID holding my Lightroom photo library and a couple external SSDs for macOS backups and another for holding movies for streaming. My DAS with HDDs is a bit loud, so I"m glad it now sits in my garage instead of my desk in the house. I wish I would have built my home server a lot sooner since my old MBP was just sitting in a drawer since I upgraded to an M1 Pro MBP.
Installed the latest software pack no problem to my mid-2014 iMac after upgrading to an SSD hard drive and its running faster than ever with the latest software. Thanks for the easy installation guide. You are amazing!
PLEASE READ BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO INSTALL, as it can save your time, effort, and good mood: the new features in Sonoma are not worth risking a stable OS. The new unsupported OS causes a number of issues: computer freezes in shell mode connected to an external monitor, loss of internet connectivity, inability to print your PDF files and so on. As of today, Apple still has not fixed some of them. Most importantly, the patch will interfere with your Mac’s SIP (System Integrity Protection) in order to force install Sonoma. This will take away your ability to reset NVRAM and SMC and will prevent you from TimeMachine restores because TimeMachine will not be able to verify that your system has not been compromised. To uninstall this patch, you will have to re-install your previous OS and then, hopefully, be able to use TimeMachine to restore everything.
I just bought a 2014 Mac mini with 8gigs and 512 ssd on ebay for $90. It says it comes with Monterrey. After reading your comment would it be better to stay with Monterrey? I bought this just to try Mac and use for homeschooling my kids.
I have the late 2011 13' MBP. Running a patched Catalina. It's running slightly better than officially supported High Sierra but let me tell you this, get the 2012 model, it makes a difference from a Metal support for newer Mac OS versions, if running Linux it doesn't really matter though, and USB 3.0 is a god send compared to USB 2.0 so from a practical standpoint that'll make a huge difference if you're the kind of person who wants to use a computer like this to do basic browsing and managing data back ups on external storage.
I have a 2012 MBP and it runs perfectly. it actually surprises me everyday. the body is out of style, with the CD drive and Mini display port (which i bought an adapter that connects to hdmi and works like a charm)
@@newmanh I disagree, the body is most definitely not out of style, if Apple added back some display bezels to their line up they'd end up looking like a very mild variation of the OG unibody design. But yes, their port selection was a bit outdated even back then, HDMI was already a well established standard by the start of the decade and Apple used to have a history of pushing out technological features ahead of others, and Firewire became obsolete the moment the USB 3.0 standard came out. CDs were still common and would still be at least mildly relevant for a few more years if the market hadn't fallen into sucking Apple's ding dong every time their took a dump. With that said, at this point in time, a fully upgraded non retina MBP is quite usable, the 15 and 17 inch ones even more so, and I will gladly keep on trucking with it for as long as Mac OS and eventually only Linux supports it to watch cat videos.
If I could pick, I'd totally go for a 13inch MBA M2 in silver. My old laptop was a 2013 15inch Macbook Pro and it just crapped out on me. The new MBA seems like the bomb - it's affordable, speedy, and easy to carry around.

I have the 2011 27inch running Sonoma it work so far. I did what he did. but I make a partition for Sonoma and I still had my support Os out the box running on this iMac that is High Sierra. If you make a extra partition and nothing works you can go and delete the partition and still keep your Os and still have a working computer. then you can try the other 3 Os and see if they work for you. By following the same steps. Use open core 1.0.1
If I had a choice, I'd love to get a 13inch MBA M2 in silver. My old laptop was a 2013 15inch Macbook Pro and it recently got broken. I think the new MBA is the best in terms of price, performance, and portability. By the way, love this new video on installing Mac OS Sonoma on unsupported Macs! Keep the news coming!
I bought a mid 2012 MacBook Pro I7. I'm upgrading to a 1tb SSD, and maxing out the ram we with 16gb. After watching this vid, I think Ventura might be the better OS option between the two. Thank you for the info!
I upgraded to Sonoma on my 2017 MacBook Pro yesterday and the OS works smoothly. However, all of my registered fingerprints were deleted from the system, and when I tried to add them, I was asked to enter my password, it didn't matter how many times I tried, the system didn't seem to accept it. So Sonoma works great, however, Touch ID was gone for me. I also tried to boot it on "safe mode" but it got stuck, and couldn't troubleshoot the error. I'll give it a couple of days, and if it doesn't work, I'll go back to Ventura. Thank you for your help on the process!
In OpenCore Legacy patcher notes it clearly states that T1 chip support for the fingerprint functionality is not working at the time, so that was expected. I advise to first read thoroughly all documentation and release notes before jumping to use OCLP directly.

My qeustion is, will that show every time, or does it directly boot to the apple screen, like usual? Thanks

My iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014) is stuck at Big Sur. I'd be happy to push it beyond Big Sur all the way to Sonoma, but I am wondering if there is a sweet spot between MacOS 11 and 14 for my particular iMac? So officially MacOS 11 is where Apple support for my iMac stops, but at 11 (sorry, SpinalTap) my iMac doesn't keep up with Apple Home (for my security cams, etc.) or other apps/features. But maybe Sonoma is too greedy. How would I know? Is there a chart out there?

I got greedy and tried to jump all the way to Ventura, and it runs, but it dogs a lot, and TH-cam video is choppy as hell. I'm gonna try to split the difference, reinstall High Sierra and use OpenCore to install Monterey. I think if someone had a 2011 and did a GPU upgrade, Ventura may run well.
can you update after installing on unsupported mac?
When i want to install it i get to the install part it completes but i end up at the recovery mode again and if i try to unplug the usb it shows a folder with ? on it and it go to internet recovery mode... What i have to do?
What will happen when an update appears? Will the OpenCore patcher be removed by the update?
Hi, it does not propose to install OPencore after sonoma installation on disk (16:04). It saus about target mode, what do i need to do?
Give it 6 months, but great stuff as always mate.

Help! No matter how many times I do that last step of installing the OpenPatcher locally and un-plug the USB drive, I cannot boot! Acts like it can’t find anything to boot from on the drive, and only works if the USB drive is plugged in! What am I doing wrong? Mid 2014 15” MacBook Pro.
yeah but hows the performance? its like taking windeows 10 and forcing the install on a win XP dated machine. like is it ecen good? i doubt. show it as a daily driver and give is teh results
Thank you. The final release is done now. How do we update to the stable version vs beta?
I’m going to install Ventura on my 2011 Mac Mini. I’m definitely going to buy a iPhone 15 Pro Max!
Are you able to download Sonoma straight from lets say Catalina, or do you have to download all the other versions first?
Hi! Great video thank you. When I reboot I only get the EFI boot yellow drive, not the black. Oncr I click on it, it just restarts and bring me back to the regular startup page. I've tried to do the open core isntall three times following step by step, but no luck. I am using an imac 2012 16gb. Any ideas what I could be doing wrong?
Good tutorial. It will be more useful for me in the future! Thanks matt💪🏻

ok let say for OS everything ok, but the answer is how about plugin or app which is request metal GPU? still can install and use it or not?
I followed your guide exactly and now I’ve been stuck on this page for nearly 24 hours asking me to select a disk to install the OS on and the flash drive says it’s locked and the SSD still says it’s encrypting. I can go back like one page, but I can’t go any further.
Getting to the EFI Boot after reboot and go through all the steps to install on MacOS but it is just a spinning wheel, doesnt proceed to the the next screen and even left it running/ waiting throughout the night and it hasnt changed screens or prompts. Any Advice? Running this on Macbook Pro 2015
Upgraded 2017 i7 MBP with 250 GB SSD and 16 GB Ram. Since, no more bluetooth (bared icon), messy password management, and no more Touch ID. I consider wiping all that mess and fresh install with Ventura...
What did you end up doing?
@@mojifilmss
@@mojifilmss Bought a Ventura USB and fresh reinstalled Ventura. Since OCLP update is supposed to solve these issues, but I am keeping on Ventura for the time
Hi Matt, Thank you for the video, its a life saver. Quick question, not that the USB is setup, does that mean i can use it again and again? or do i need to go through the whole process again?
just installed on my late 2016 MacBook Pro with Touch Bar, works well, only my fingerprint don't work,
Update? I have the same machine
I have a retina macbook 2015. 3 times MacBook could not mount/write a flash drive (32 GB USB A) - everytime some error appears. Can it be because I using usb c to usb a dongle? I can not use usb c - my battery is dead for few years (whole time on a power cable)

I have an iMac mid 2011 with 14Gb Ram and would love to update it so it can run word and some other unsupported apps. Would it be worth. risking
When it notifies you of new updates, can you click on the update for the latest software or will it crash your computer?
I have been successful but I can't get to the patch to restore the keyboard and other items.
What about getting an initialize graphics error when using certain apps? Due to “supported mac”
How many reboot it will be? It's like i have to do it again and again? I know I did it right coz I followed all the steps.
Hi, very amazing tutorial - I am seriously thinking about upgrading my MacBook Air 2017 to at least to Ventura - it is sad that having Monterey I cannot download Keynote :(
But I have limited internet data transfer - will 20 gb of internet be enough to do whole process ?
To those who are in doubt to install, I won't recommend at the moment because it is quite buggy on older systems also wifi & bluetooth not working and pointer is moving so slow. It is better to wait for some more time to get the stable version. (I am using MacBook Air 2017 model)
can you uninstall and go back to ventura?
@@babylongardens Yes, that's what I did. I have downgraded to Ventura back
