I'm no longer Metallica die-hard, but this album to me is their best work since St. Anger. The singles didn't really capture me, until I heard the full album. It just flows nicely, and no fillers. Very groovy, heavy, yet melodic. I put it on par with Megadeth's latest album.
I went into this album with mid/low expectations, and I'm really surprised and pleased at how good it is! For me it's their best since probably the Black album. A lot of great riffs and James sounds better than ever!
Room Of Mirrors is fast too. Maybe even faster than the title track. Too Far Gone has the best hook and chorus on the album. Surprised it hasn’t been a single
Absolutely! You totally smoke my mind. They should've trimmed it down to 8-10 songs max and under 45 minutes. These long albums are killing me. I guess, yes, a little diversity would have made it a brilliant album. A few fillers IMO just like the last couple of album. But anyway, what do I know. Anyway stay metal everyone 😊🥂🤘🏽
@@TubeSolePursuit i have to disagree. This album has it all except for ballad. From fast killem all style in Too Far Gone and Lux aeterna, pure thrash metal master of puppets style songs in Shadows follow, chasing light, slow groovy heavy style in You Must Burn, Black album style like Inamorata, hard rock load reload style in Crown of Barbed Wire. Also Rooms of Mirrors is a brilliant song
MOST of the bands from the 80's and earlier put out better albums back then than they did in the 90's and later on. it's the casualty of the CD format, instead of having cassettes and LPs with 15-25 minute sides (30-50 minute total length) they went to a 74 minutes to try to make it feel like you were getting your money's worth to pay for the (back then) higher price of the CD. bands started adding a bonus track which some were good some weren't and then started going from 8-10 songs to 14-18 songs and depending on the band, a lot of these extra songs are "filler" - the music version of deleted scenes from a movie - some good, but mostly bad - things that should have been left on the editing room floor or given away on a B side or a non-single on a movie soundtrack. combine that with the loudness wars of the 90's, the Digital compression of an analog source, auto tune and this is what you end up with.
Thanks Brendon for the review on the new Metallica. I have been a fan of there from the beginning in 1981. Other than Lulu & St Anger i don't own & have no wanting to buy them. The rest of there CD are good to very good. I will be looking forward to picking up my issue of the new album in the near future. An 11 minute song wow almost prog rock.
72 Seasons is pretty much exactly what I expected, it didn't blow me away but it's solid, very much on par with their last 2 albums.. My favorite tracks were Shadows Follow, You Must Burn, Lux Aeterna, and Room of Mirrors
Very balanced and informative review. I am enjoying the album a lot. I would have liked a little more thrash but overall very happy I got the plectrums but also a yellow Metallica tote bag 😵💫 very rock and roll !
Love the review. I thought the length was perfect. I actually panicked a bit when the four singles were released and didn’t show me the total playing album time, especially Lux (3 odd mins or so). Upon release, bam 77 mins of pure Metallica!
Nice review Brendon. I first listened to Metallica, in early 1983, first song Four Horseman and then Phantom Lord - my mates and I listened on the radio to a thing called 3 hours of power which was broadcast out of Seattle. I lived in Vancouver BC Canada. We got lot's of US TV and radio. We were blown away. We went WTF is this, and then went and bought the cassette which I still have but cannot play due to mould. But I have another copy and it's primo. I know old school headbanger story. I have spun the album 72 Seasons and I am at Meh stage ... I have only done one listen. Inamorata and 72 Seasons are the stand out tracks. I am not sure on the drumming and Kirk's solos stuff.
Metallica are the band for me, that truly changed my entire life. Almost everything I listen to today can be traced back to a moment when I put on Master of Puppets for the very first time, as a young and naïve teenager. Little did I know, my world would never be the same after...
I love metallica but you are looking at this album through rose-colored glasses. Just like Hardwired, its too long and bloated. 70% of these songs are forgettable crap.
@@BannedPhotoshop I'm not looking at the album through anything. I didn't say anything about the album. I haven't even heard any of the songs yet, lol.
I am listening to Metallica since 1988 and 72 Seasons is their best album since 1991 Metallica . The old fans ara like me usually praise this NEW album so much . Thank you Metallica for giving this album in 2023 …
Best review on this album.🤘 We love having new music from bands and artists from our elementary and high school days. The reality is just like our bodies the good stuff has come and gone.😅
I absolutely love this album. I think if fans dropped off after the black album or Justice , they’re missing a lot of good music! That’s just my humble opinion though. Thanks for the review!
Just clown metal heads who think anything that's not 100 mph and screaming down a mic is not music 😅😂😅 muppets don't realise people have different tastes.
Great review Brendon! I still need to pick this up from PREX asap. Let me know when you’re going to be down there next time and I’ll introduce you to the current owner and some of the crüe who work there.
I’m loving this new album. Great to get new tunes from them that stylistically hit various eras but also pick up some new things too. Packaging is cool and creative, but like you I wish the band logo and track listing were on the outside. Hoping that we don’t have to wait 7 more years for the next one
I bought the CD at my local FYE and they only gave me one guitar pick, the yellow with black printing on it. The packet wasn't sealed onto the CD packaging, the picks all seem to come separate. One employee said the bonus was a packet of picks but another one said no we're only supposed to get one, so I don't know if it only depends on where you buy the album or if somebody was wrong.
I'm pretty sure they have more amazing tracks in their pockets left....and they will surprise us next year with another great album 🔥😁 "72 seasons - Reloaded" 🤘🤘
We can hope but I think it’s highly unlikely. Even when they did Load and ReLoad it was announced up front that both were happening. There has been no mention of additional songs recorded. Metallica never record extra songs. They select what they will work on and complete only those tracks. That’s why there are literally no outtakes that have ever been released from the band.
@@BrendonSnyder what was your opinion of load and reload?. Thought load had some excellent songs and a few real duds. Reload had a few excellent songs and more real duds. Nice production sound on those albums.
Everyone seems to be making fun of my favorite glam rockers Steel Panther ... But the good thing is that they don't give a shit about what Metallica or any other thrash metal bands do ... Because they are kings of the genre in their own right …
I can’t image why they would care what Metallica does, they don’t sound anything alike, and they’re not even on the same level. But it’s cool that you like Steel Panther. Just don’t see what that has to do with a review of the new Metallica album where there was no mention of the band Steel Panther. 🤷♂️
Favorite tracks so far are 72 Seasons, Inamorata, Room of Mirrors, and If Darkness Had a Son. The first half really felt like it was going at the same pace starting at track 2. Definitely would've benefited from a track similar to Halo of Fire or Unforgiven 3 from the current era.
I’d actually would have loved to get The Unforgiven IV. I’m waiting for a whole album of all songs titled The Unforgiven. But I know it’s a pipe dream 😂
I’m in total agreement with your view. While none of the songs are bad, they all sound the same. Same tempo….etc. I’m sure it will grow on me, but after 2 listens I’m finding it hard to distinguish one from the other
I’ve been playing it regularly for a month to assess it properly. I don’t agree with the critical and negative reviews. I think its a very good Metallica album and I enjoyed it.
So you don’t think the songs all kind of sound the same? To me there is no variation in the overall style or sound. They all have the same feel to them. Mind you that doesn’t have to be seen as a negative aspect. Certainly it’s nice sometimes to have an album that rocks the same all the way through. I still like the album but I would have liked more varied style and sound between songs. Certainly their other albums have it. That or it would be nice if the band said this was a conscious decision to make an album of the same kind of songs.
@@BrendonSnyder To me it's no different from Death Magnetic, Hardwired or even Justice? The only albums that really have strong contrasts between songs and have really soft moments are the s/t, Load and Reload. I mean on 72 Seasons as an example you still have a fast tempo song like Lux Aeterna and then a more slow doomy Black Sabbath-type song like Inamorata so to me you do have those contrasts between songs once you become more familiar with them and the album. Maybe the track-listing does not help as they have grouped similar sounding songs together?
Brendon: do you actually live in an area with tons of record stores? I'm in LI NY and there are still a few stores left, but they tend to only concentrate on super expensive vinyl, and none of them really specialize in metal. The only store that sometimes has metal is Looney Tunes out in W. Babylon LI NY. They usually have new albums on CD and vinyl, too. The rest of the stores here I cannot rely on at all, and Target or Walmart here are woeful now, they barely even have music. It's really maddening. Years ago I would trek into NYC and make sure I could find what I needed even at Tower Records if nothing else, and now, there's zero even in NYC.
Great review. Totally agree. Great songs, great riffs. Everybody is in fine form. I would have liked a ballad or two on there to break up the monotony a little bit...but very solid album.
2023 marks the twentieth anniversary of me getting off the Metallica train. I bought St.Anger and Some Kind of Monster (the DVD documentary) around the same time in 2003, and finally had enough. St.Anger entered the rubbish bin and I never looked back👍
Great review, Brendon. I listened to this full album twice yesterday and I enjoyed it. I'm an early Metallica fan, seeing them live for the first time in 1986 and I do prefer the first 5 albums. I agree with what you said in your review, this new album needs some slow tempo breaks, and some slower intros before the heavy riffs kick in. I think Kirk really shines (stands out) on this album, his solos area amazing. Sadly, and I hate to even say it, the vocals are the weakest part of the album. Rock on!!!
Nice guitar picks ! didn't see any of these at my recordstore. I think the album is pretty good : as you say, no bad tracks ; a nice combination of, maybe, Hardwired and Load...? All the band members do a good job here in my opinion. Also, this album will hold a special place to me, because it was really cool to to hear it for the first time at the cinema, with great sound and band commentary on each song.
After several listens I tend to agree with you, Brendon. This album has some really good tracks, but it does suffer from the songs sounding like too much of the same thing over and over again. I’ve felt the past few Metallica releases were a little bloated as far as length of the albums and this one is no different. I drive about 45 minutes to work and then back, so I tend to judge by whether or not I can listen to an entire album within that time frame to really allow me to take it all in. I’m certainly not going to jump out of the car and pick up where I left off on the album when I get to my destination. I understand not every album should be the same length and giving us that extra time is nothing to complain about, but I remember the days of the 40-45 minute album and that just doesn’t seem to happen that much anymore. I also agree not having the band logo on the front cover is a mistake. All in all, nice review.
I'm really impressed by that new album. I haven't been moved so much by Metallica since the Black album. There was always something that was bothering me with the subsequent releases (whether it was the production or the song-writing). This one sounds great and the playing (and singing) is fantastic. Might not be ground-breaking (but how could it be?), but it's a super solid record imo. I do have to say that the packaging is quite annoying... Cheers.
Totally agree. Almost the whole album sounds similar in terms of intensity and pace. Missing songs that start with clean guitar arpegios and turn into something heavier, among other signature elements that helped to build Metallica's highly appreciated reputation. By now, the one song that captured my attention for good is "Inamorata". And, in a lesser level, "Lux Æterna", "Room of Mirrors" and "Too Far Gone?". Hope this album grows on me.
I’ve enjoyed the album so far. If you liked the black album/load/reload era, and even the last 2 albums you’ll love this album, if you didn’t, then you’ll hate it. This is the album I expected Metallica to make. These guys are all in their late 50s/early 60s. Wasn’t expecting another MOP or AJFA.
Awesome review! It did surprise me though when you said lar’s drumming was great as always. Now personally I know nothing about drumming. I have never put an album on and thought oh the drums are great or the drums suck.I’m definitely not a drumming aficionado! However I have heard many people dump on lar’s drumming.(even James I think) maybe he just can’t keep time live?
I think it's a very good album - I give it an 8 out of 10. I agree that there's not a lot of variation between the songs, except for Lux Aeterna after You Must Burn is a stark change. Inamorata was a little disappointing because I expected an 11 minute song to evolve into something else, but it ended up being fairly repetitive; still good, but I was hoping for it to kick into gear at some point and it never did. Overall, I did enjoy the album quite a bit and think it fits in well with the rest of their catalog.
Agree 100% with your main points about a lack of variety and quieter moments on the album - exactly like the two songs you mentioned. I like it, for the most part, but it tends to drag in the second half. I've never heard the term 'Groove Metal' before, but it makes so much sense.
I love the new album '72 Seasons best since ...And Justice for All and i love the CD Packaging it's like one of those puzzle games that you take apart and then you have to figure out have to put it back again.
I think that you are spot on! I have listened to it quite a lot already. I like it but its to long and most of the songs sounds the same. I know that many fans don’t like Load but for me its one of their top five albums.
this album for me is straight heavy riffs harmonies, melodies and i can't think of anything that i heard with 12 wonderfully written songs that i didn't enjoy. I would recommend this to anyone
I agree with all your thoughts, I'd never thought about Metallica being a heaviour version of acdc until this album, a instrumental, cover or fade to black style would have been better for me, just like the previous album, I love half, just to same yfor my taste
I will get this album at some point but i got the new Overkill album instead. Which is getting over shadowed by the Metallica album coming out on the same day.
Maybe a question to ask is; how do you do something that you've already done AND basically perfected 37 years ago (thrash metal: ie, Master Of Puppets, Ride The Lightning), while bringing something somewhat new to the table? I'd love to hear Metallica thrash out to some new material but they probably feel like it would be pointless and compromised. Not that I think their current sound is anything new or particularly all that interesting. At this stage of the game I see them as a heavy rock band who write OK songs that I'm not all that interested in hearing. To be fair it must be almost impossible to live up to groundbreaking standards, album after album, decade after decade, lol. Today, I'm glad they're still going with a massive audience who want to buy their new album.
Yeah it would be hard to recreate those classic so I’m sure they stay away from trying. But the band perfect thrash 42 years when they formed in 1981. They were already playing Thrash and killing it.
@@paulklimo2396 justice is okay. It was a bit of a disappointment after master of puppets, my friends and I didn’t listen to it as much as the first 3 albums. It has always felt that way for me since then. It does form part of the golden era which I take up to the black album and live shit.
@@iancocks9408 I think if I had discovered Metallica earlier then I would likely have felt the same as you. But that's when I found them and life for me was forever changed. But the nostalgia and feelings that are wrapped up in that album for me personally is what sets it ahead, but by no more than a hair! 🙂
Brenden..when you do new music reviews or any kind of reviews can you please the CD or album displayed somehow while you're commenting on them. A lot of times when you hold up the cd and then put it down and you start talking sometimes I forget who you're reviewing. So maybe continue to hold it up or put it on some kind of stand. Thanks and great channel.
If you can’t remember what you’re watching for 10 to 15 mins, that’s something else that i can’t help with. This is a one man show and I do the best I can with what I’ve got.
@Brendon Snyder I'm not criticizing by any stretch. I sometimes just want to study the cover of the cd and then make note of the album title so that I can look it up later and either listen to it on TH-cam or puck up at my local record store. No disrespect my man. My other buddies who watch your channel shares my thoughts as well. Again just a suggestion. Thanks again.
In this video the name of the band and album are in the video title. If you thinking more about other videos I do like Top 10 countdowns and things, if you wait until the end of the videos there is a photo of all the albums together. It’s there so you can pause on it and write down band names and album titles. But I can’t hold the album up the entire show. Thanks for providing your suggestion and voicing your opinion. I’ll take it into consideration about how I show the albums in future videos. I’m always looking to grow.
It’s good for what they’re still able to do, I mean they’re near 60, hard to play thrash at this point but they haven’t played thrash since 88’. It’s a good album.
It didn’t disappoint me. I just felt it was lacking in variety. But I do like all 12 tracks. It’s a different kind of album than they have done in the past and that’s good. It keeps things interesting.
Metallica has been my favorite band since my childhood in the 90s. That is intill in my 30s I discovered a band called Lovebites and pretty much only listen to them now. Metallica could learn a thing or two from them.
I’m quite sure it’s the other way around. A band would be hard pressed to deny they have not been included by Metallica. But hey that’s cool if you’re not into the band any more. Enjoy what you enjoy. That’s all that matters.
@@BrendonSnyder they were influenced by them and a couple other 80s metal bands and now greatly surpassed all of them in talent. It's pretty nuts. And they are all chicks no less.. But 80s Metallica will always have a place in my thrashy heart.
I think this is a big return to form for the band. If this had been the follow up to the Black album, we'd be hailing this as one of their best from their classic era, and frankly. had they never released the Loads, they may never have been so polarizing among their fans. I for one would probably have gotten back onboard the train after having lost interest in them when they started reciting menacing lullabies in their hit singles lol!
I'm not a slavish Metallica fan, not even a massive metalhead, I"m into a select bunch of metal bands of yore: Iron Maiden, Pantera, Priest, Motorhead, et al. and some death metal bands, and stuff like Samhain and Danzig, Type O Negative. But, I do enjoy the "classic" Metallica, love the Black album, and I listened to most of this online the past two days, and I thought it was a pretty solid album. It also sounds great, and the performances seem solid to me. Lyrics are ok. Songwriting seems decent. It seems like it certainly rocks harder than the past few albums they have done, that let a lot of fans down, apparently. I don't see what the problem is.
Inamorata for me sounds like a ballad, not as standard Metallica ballad but it has most of ingredients for it and it's most closest to ballad on this album
I gave it a first listen this morning and turned it off after 4 tracks. Just sounded too samey and uninspired. Will revisit it of course but not a good first impression.
Has been an issue with Metallica cover art albums since the Load album best cover art albums for me was ( Lightning, Puppets and Justice ) any way take a look at overkill scorched came out on the same day as 72 Seasons.
Metallica has attempted to remain relevant and therefore kept graphic design and imagery modern. Their videos are the same thing. Overkill instead realizes they have no change and so they’re keep it old school. But I too prefer the Overkill album cover.
After first listen, 7/10. Should grow on me (hoping anyways). Rhino Bucket is NOT a glam band. Edit #1: Thanks Brendon and thanks for even handed review.
I've heard the CD is Brickwalled so bad that its unlistenable.. heard Vinyl is much better and Atmos much better. I streamed it on Spotify once and...I felt similar to your review, (I initially liked a few songs on Hardwired.. more, but haven't cared to listen to it since).. atm don't really want to throw down the $40 for vinyl..
My first listen to the album felt like an 80 minute long song with what seemed like the same E-F-F-E chord progression chugged out again and again, with the same solo over and over. The overlong repetitious chug of Em, the lack of range, dynamic, tangent, and change let me down. There was no flow, feel that the album was an evolving journey, it was all the same muddled mesh. No peaks and valleys, as you mentioned. But Im enjoying hearing new leases of highlights and the album is starting to reveal itself more to me. It is a grower. I do and will always feel that a lot of it is too long, repetitive and lacking dynamic, but its Im looking forward to its great moments showing themselves more.
Enjoying the album. Not a ton of super memorable tracks as others have stated. Really dislike the packaging - the whole fold out box thing. Give me a regular old jewel case any day.
I've already put the CD into a slimline jewel case. Very annoying CD packaging. Good album. Agree with your points. Too long and too many songs are similar paced. Minor complaint really. I'm just happy to have new Metallica to listen to again!
The only thing I agree with is that they should have closed the album with a banger. 72 Seasons is phenominal. Their best album since Justice. I also hear plenty if thrash/speed metal on here too.
It’s cool that you dig it so much. And we all hear things differently. But if you’re hearing speed & thrash, then we have different definitions of what speed/thrash sounds like.
@@BrendonSnyder ok, I wouldn't say it is an all-out Speed/Thrash album but there are songs that are just as Thrash as some of their classics. Then again are also people out there that don't consider any Metallica thrash at all. Here are the ones I would say fall in that category. Title track is stocked full of thrashy riffs. Hands down thrash for me. The last half of Shadows follow is reminiscent of Ghosts of War by Slayer. Everyone says Lux Eterna sounds like something off Kill em' All. The chorus to Chasing Light is heavy AF and thrash to me. Too Far Gone screams No Remorse....very similar riffage. If Darkness Had a Son has a very similar vibe to songs on Justice. The rest which is almost half the album definitely not thrash. I just heard Barbwire and I agree that it seems related to King Nothing. There was one part where it almost felt like it was gonna go there. That one is probably my least favorite. That or Inamorata. Too "Loadish" for me lol
For me it was good on first listen and then it grew to very good on 4th listen. It's a grower. Rhinobucket glam metal? Really? I only have their first release but it's pure Bon Scott AC/DC.
METALLICA the "Masters of Metal"! That is a very bold statement to make! Honestly, they haven't made a great or very good album since the 1980s; the only other album that stands out, in my opinion, is the "Load" one from 1996, that one is basically good from start to finish, which can't be said about any other album since the 1980s, and yes that includes "Death Magnetic" as well. Also one could dispute that Load is really a Metal album, since it has many different influences, such as country, rock, psychedelic music, etc. Most of Metallica's post 1980s albums have lots of fillers and rather mediocre songs, and feel way too long, almost always filling an entire CD, making them around 77-79 minutes long. Comparatively, there are many new or newer Metal bands that could actually do justice to the prestigious phrase "Masters of Metal": For example, BLADE KILLER (Heavy Metal), STEEL RATH (Heavy Metal from Brazil), OMNICIDAL (play Melodic Death Metal), DEMONA (Speed Metal from Chile), SCEPTOR (Heavy Metal), RAVAGE (Power Metal from Boston), HEXEN (from L.A. play Melodic Thrash), BLISTERED EARTH (old School Thrash Metal in the vein of early Metallica & early Testament), CENOTAPH (from Mexico play Melodic Death Metal), ETERNAL SACRIFICE (play Epic Black Metal), ARMOR COLUMN (Power/Thrash Metal from New York), SANHEDRIN (Heavy Metal from New York), VEKTOR (Progressive Thrash Metal from USA), and ASPIRE (Symphonic Power Metal from USA). And of course, there are plenty of other older Metal bands that could also reasonably vie for that prestigious phrase! Such as Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Motörhead, & Black Sabbath [all of these had a big influence on Metallica], to name just the most obvious ones.
@@BrendonSnyder If you like/love Metal check out the new/newer bands I listed; I have them as CDS, it great music for any Metal Fan, although some like Blistered Earth may be difficult to get!
Não gosto muito dessas versões em digipack, apesar do conceito ter ficado bem bacana. Inclusive seja a lembrar muito uma versão em digipack que eu tenho do Anomaly do Ace Frehley.
I think Rhino Bucket was more of a straight ahead rock AC/DC clone; not so much glam metal in my opinion. I dig 72 Seasons and think it's the best of the last three. However, after listening to the new Overkill release, that decimates it and is still thrash. Metallica is more hard rock with some metal the past few decades.
Yes Rhino Bucket was more of an AC/DC clone but came out during the Glam Metal era and were lumped in with them. The range of bands and style in Glam Metal is very wide.
Ranking all Metallica albums: Kill Em All 100/100 Ride the Lightning 101/100 Master of Puppets 104/100 And Justice for All 103/100 The Black Album 102/100 Load 85/100 Reload 82/100 St. Anger 65/100 Death Magnetic 87/100 Hardwired 89/100 72 Seasons 95/100 Thus ranking 1-11 Master of Puppets And Justice for All The Black Album Ride the Lightning Kill em All 72 Seasons Hardwired Death Magnetic Load Reload St. Anger With further listening I think it’s possible for 72 Seasons to break the top five. I absolutely love the album through and through but it’s just hard to say it’s as good or better than some of their older records as good as it may be. It may take a lot of repeated listens before I know for certain where this album truly stands but immediately it’s their best since Black Album hands down.
maybe it's an age thing? The creativity and originality could be compromised as the band has been making music for 40 years and feel more risk averse? Bands like Ac/Dc churn out the same album since their peak with Let There Be Rock and Powerage. So i suggest that Metallica are possibly more in their comfort zone these days and maybe feel less compelled to push their musical barriers.
AC/DC highway to hell sounds nothing like powerage, and back in black does not sound like highway to hell either. They started same albums with for those about to rock onwards I think.
The solos are on par, with what? They are random cut and paste blues licks that you could literally exchange into any song here. No offense, but your comment is ridiculous to me.
@@BrendonSnyder it’s far worse than anything he’s done. His DM solos were more creative. These are completely uninspiring and interchangeable to me. It’s not just a small gap.

Room Of Mirrors is fast too. Maybe even faster than the title track. Too Far Gone has the best hook and chorus on the album. Surprised it hasn’t been a single
Metallica's best albums are between 8-10 songs long, less than an hour, and cover several different styles.
I agree. Sonic diversity is a huge part of what makes Metallica special and these last two albums just don’t have any of it.

Yes I agree 💯

It’s that last song that makes the album. It’s incredible. The rest is all riff based, and I love riffs.
I agree! 🤘
Definitely an great closer. It grows on me with every listen!
Very balanced and informative review. I am enjoying the album a lot. I would have liked a little more thrash but overall very happy
I got the plectrums but also a yellow Metallica tote bag 😵💫 very rock and roll !
Love the review. I thought the length was perfect. I actually panicked a bit when the four singles were released and didn’t show me the total playing album time, especially Lux (3 odd mins or so). Upon release, bam 77 mins of pure Metallica!
Thank you for your honest review on the album, Brendon!
My pleasure Lana, glad you enjoyed it.
Great review, brother! Posting my review this morning too! Lol.🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻
@@BannedPhotoshop can people no have opinions seriously, just cause its not for you don't mean we'll all have to feel the same.
Hands down album of the year!! Best release from these guys since the Black album.
Great review man!! 💯 I thought Shadows Follow was kind of Anthraxy to me. I did get the free picks in NYC listening party at Generations.
I am really enjoying the new album. Like many others, I am a life long Metallica fan and love the passion they put into the music.
I'm pretty sure they have more amazing tracks in their pockets left....and they will surprise us next year with another great album 🔥😁
"72 seasons - Reloaded" 🤘🤘
Waiting for my copy. Not checking any samples in the meantime! Total suspense just like during the pre-internet days 😂. Great video as always.
as a die hard rhino bucket fan, the rhino bucket tie in is way cool... thank u sir
Great show and fair review, thanks. I have a question about the die cut slip case; what does it mean?
It means that there is a cut-out.
Brendon: do you actually live in an area with tons of record stores? I'm in LI NY and there are still a few stores left, but they tend to only concentrate on super expensive
vinyl, and none of them really specialize in metal. The only store that sometimes has metal is Looney Tunes out in W. Babylon LI NY. They usually have new albums
on CD and vinyl, too. The rest of the stores here I cannot rely on at all, and Target or Walmart here are woeful now, they barely even have music. It's really maddening.
Years ago I would trek into NYC and make sure I could find what I needed even at Tower Records if nothing else, and now, there's zero even in NYC.
I live near him. Sound exchange is great and there are another 5-6 shops in a reasonable radius.
@@DKbananas I see, that's already 10x better than LI is now. It's really sad here.
72 seasons... great album! Groovy Sabbathica :) Love it!
Great review. Totally agree. Great songs, great riffs. Everybody is in fine form. I would have liked a ballad or two on there to break up the monotony a little bit...but very solid album.

Off topic, but damn that Master Of Puppets and HTSD album covers blend so good
Brendon: do you recommend their Garage double album of influences/covers, etc.? I heard that was a good one.
I HIGHLY recommend it!
@@facelessandnameless Thanks, I'll pick it up soon. I have every Metallica album minus the new one right now, and that one, I think.
2023 marks the twentieth anniversary of me getting off the Metallica train. I bought St.Anger and Some Kind of Monster (the DVD documentary) around the same time in 2003, and finally had enough. St.Anger entered the rubbish bin and I never looked back👍
…you’re looking back right now 😂😂😂
Give ‘72 Seasons’ a try.
Yeah I didn’t expect anything other than what they’ve been doing for the last 15 years since Death Magnetic.
Last week I went to the album movie premiere and all the songs sounded amazing. When I listened at home did not sound the same. But good lp.
He's always been a solid drummer in general.
Groove Metal was spearheaded by Pantera. That’s their genre.
Lamb of God, also Groove Metal.
Very good review. 🤘
I love the new album '72 Seasons best since ...And Justice for All and i love the CD Packaging it's like one of those puzzle games that you take apart and then you have to figure out have to put it back again.
While I like the album I am definitely not hearing anything as good as …And Justice For All. But I’m glad you’re enjoying it that much!
Great review, thanks!
I think that you are spot on! I have listened to it quite a lot already. I like it but its to long and most of the songs sounds the same. I know that many fans don’t like Load but for me its one of their top five albums.
One of the best Metallica albums in years
It’s definitely a good one!
@@BrendonSnyder different setlists at each concert too
this album for me is straight heavy riffs harmonies, melodies and i can't think of anything that i heard with 12 wonderfully written songs that i didn't enjoy. I would recommend this to anyone
I agree with all your thoughts, I'd never thought about Metallica being a heaviour version of acdc until this album, a instrumental, cover or fade to black style would have been better for me, just like the previous album, I love half, just to same yfor my taste
I ❤ Metallica's new album. I wasn't disappointed at all. Inamorata is the best song on there in my opinion.
Yeah a very emotional, beautiful song 🎵 can't get enough of that song.
I will get this album at some point but i got the new Overkill album instead. Which is getting over shadowed by the Metallica album coming out on the same day.
Definitely not
New OverKill is awesome 👍👍 as usually
Nice review Brendon! Would you be able to make a metallica album ranking as well? Curious to hear your thoughts on their whole discography

People grow and change. It’s a different world today than 1988 so I’d expect different things are influencing them and come through in the music.
the guys in Overkill are in their 60s too and they still are playing thrash till this day dude
9:35 Coming from mostly prog- I will probably enjoy this song and many of the parts.

I still haven't listened it yet. I'm hearing positive reviews. I hope it doesn't disappoint
It didn’t disappoint me. I just felt it was lacking in variety. But I do like all 12 tracks. It’s a different kind of album than they have done in the past and that’s good. It keeps things interesting.
@@BrendonSnyder cool
Fantastic album.
👍
I think this is a big return to form for the band. If this had been the follow up to the Black album, we'd be hailing this as one of their best from their classic era, and frankly. had they never released the Loads, they may never have been so polarizing among their fans. I for one would probably have gotten back onboard the train after having lost interest in them when they started reciting menacing lullabies in their hit singles lol!
Damn right!
That's the tour I saw a reload. I love load and reload. Until it sleeps memory remains. I like it when they slow it down a little bit to grunge heavy
I agree with your thoughts.
👍
I'm not a slavish Metallica fan, not even a massive metalhead, I"m into a select bunch of metal bands of yore: Iron Maiden, Pantera, Priest, Motorhead, et al. and some
death metal bands, and stuff like Samhain and Danzig, Type O Negative. But, I do enjoy the "classic" Metallica, love the Black album, and I listened to most of this online the past two days, and I thought it was a pretty solid album. It also sounds great, and the performances seem solid to me. Lyrics are ok. Songwriting seems decent. It seems like it
certainly rocks harder than the past few albums they have done, that let a lot of fans down, apparently. I don't see what the problem is.
Inamorata for me sounds like a ballad, not as standard Metallica ballad but it has most of ingredients for it and it's most closest to ballad on this album
Ballads are a lot slower
I loved hardwired I feel it's one of there best but this one just feels like something is missing
For me, it’s the opposite, Lol! I didn’t care for Hardwired, but I loved listening to 72 Seasons!
This is better than Hardwired. It’s more upbeat too. Death Magnetic is still the best of the last three albums in my opinion
Hardwired to self destruct was okay. Not as good as death magnetic. 72 seasons is better than both of those. Quite a heavy album. I really like it.
Same
Opposite for me.......this is growing on me
I gave it a first listen this morning and turned it off after 4 tracks. Just sounded too samey and uninspired. Will revisit it of course but not a good first impression.
its an excellent album! to me it sounds like a mix of Death Magnetic/HWTSD
I will definitely enjoy this album for sure. I’ll treat every song different even though they may sound like the same style.
Enjoy!

Never would've considered them glam at all. Learn something new all the time, if paying attention. 😎
Really enjoyed the album.
Yep, I feel the same. Still a great album and it’s certainly a grower.
Enjoying the album. Not a ton of super memorable tracks as others have stated. Really dislike the packaging - the whole fold out box thing. Give me a regular old jewel case any day.
I hear you!
I've already put the CD into a slimline jewel case. Very annoying CD packaging. Good album. Agree with your points. Too long and too many songs are similar paced. Minor complaint really. I'm just happy to have new Metallica to listen to again!
I agree, I’m just happy to have new Metallica. It really is a good album all things considered.
That packaging does look annoying
Death Magnetic had some OK songs but was marred by the horrible loudness issue.
I love this album, I put it right up there with Master of Puppets and the Black album. 4/5 🤘
Very good/cool Album. Better than Hardwired. Sounds like a brother of... I love it also... Death Magnetic. Very good Job from you Man👍🤘
Metallica's best album since the 80's is a cover album. I have no expectations for them so never disappointed.
I like your shirt
Thank you, it’s a fan club only shirt released as part of one of the Fan Can series.
For me it was good on first listen and then it grew to very good on 4th listen. It's a grower. Rhinobucket glam metal? Really? I only have their first release but it's pure Bon Scott AC/DC.
The new Metallica cd rules. The cd grew on me fast.
Glad you’re enjoying it so much.
@@BrendonSnyder Metallica doesn't need to prove themselves anymore.
Obviously we have different opinions. Let’s leave it at that. Enjoy Load.
@@BrendonSnyder If you like/love Metal check out the new/newer bands I listed; I have them as CDS, it great music for any Metal Fan, although some like Blistered Earth may be difficult to get!

This album is the same song repeated. It’s a one or two time listen and the add it to the dust pile. 6.5/10.

On par with what Kirk normally does as a lead guitarist. I think it’s ridiculous that you couldn’t understand that. 🤷♂️
@@BrendonSnyder it’s far worse than anything he’s done. His DM solos were more creative. These are completely uninspiring and interchangeable to me. It’s not just a small gap.
