For those interested, The Haunted Lands trilogy (Unclean, Undead, & Unholy) by Richard Lee Byers deals with the rise of Szass Tam to power in Thay. Better written than many D&D novels, filled with good lore, with useful insights into the society and its politics.
This is really becoming one of my favorite channels. I'd love to see similar videos for the other countries and cities. Maybe one on Warerdeep and the Masked Lords, or the government of Baldur's Gate etc. Keep up the great work!
I used to read a lot of Forgotten Realms novels when I was younger. There is a book called Red Magic. It was part of the Harpers series of novels from back in the day. I liked it as a teen.
Many writers for AL and WotC treat anything Ed writes as Cannon, as they should. Stuff from Land of the Red ever showed up in the most rescent Dreams of the Red Wizards AL modules which are semi-in house
So glad you mentioned that final part about demon vs devil summoning - I have always thought the same thing regarding the two, but you made it make sense for me, so glad I stuck around to the end!
I really hope that Larian Studios makes another DnD game like Baldur's Gate 3 but have it take place in Thay. It just sounds like such a good setting for a game like that.
If you’re born with the Gift, you still need the proper training and education to learn how to use it (memorizing spells, writing and practicing new spells, etc.). A sorcerer has some sort of anomaly happen to them that allows them to naturally conjure the magic through their sheer will, but they can’t exactly choose their spells or study new ones, and they are created under very rare circumstances.
No, Wizards are not like Harry Potter. Sorcerers are. Wizards in D&D learn how to manipulate the Weave. They only need to be smart. Wizards are like mathematians. Being gifted helps, but its 99% hard work.
In Ed Greenwood’s Forgotten Realms, they both require the Gift. That’s the lore the DMsGuild book I was citing uses so it’s the lore I was using for the video.
@@Genghis_Sean as for the vid they might of only wanted there race in the higher ranks for less chance of spies not because they're racist.... but maybe they're racist, I'm pretty sure every race in dnd is racist
@@Genghis_Seanit's ok, the one thing I don't agree with is how the "women have it worse" all stats show otherwise even in midevil times men always had it tougher with war, dangerous jobs, ect

I too enjoy serving *Zest Ham.*
It's delicious.
I agree, as for the other...a contract has been released for that Red Wizard and the assassin team dispatched.

Oh yeah, I really want to do more Realms lore.

I’m glad someone else was thinking the same thing.
I absolutely love your videos bro. Excellent presentation and information.
Many thanks bro and please keep them coming. 👍👏👌
I'd expect wizards on the cheap wouldn't want to deal with the controversies of a slave economy etc. etc. All to the good Ed has you covered.

If wizards have to be born to the talent, then what's the difference between a wizard and a sorcerer?
Their "talent" is max int.
@@Jaabra you've got some classes mixed up. Sorcerers are born with innate magic and Warlocks sell their soul.
@@nathanielreik6617 You know what? My bad, you are right indeed.
@@Jaabra Intellectual honestly? Bruh's a damn good wizard right here, lol

the word "racist" is way over used
As far as I can tell, I only say it twice in the video.
