    Subscribed for the GS300 content. I did my piston soak last weekend and so far I haven't driven it far enough to comment on how it affected oil consumption. Three spark plugs were a bit oily, one was broken and very oily. Didn't do compression test since I didn't want to contaminate the internals of my friends gauge. Did some wide open throttle digs to try and clear its throat out or kill the engine. Big plumes of blue smoke everywhere behind me. After about 30 minutes it either reduced or just appeared that way to me. Then this morning I got a bunch of codes when I started the car up but I didnt look them all up. One was the MAF that I ended up cleaning before so maybe I just didn't let it re-learn. Hopefully it'lll be an easy fix.

      I ordered some spark plugs, so in the next couple of weeks, I’m going to take video of top of piston and do compression test. Look for this video in about 2 weeks.

      @@DIYLifeSkills Borescope the pistons too. Right now I ran through 2 bottles of MMO to do my hot, piston soak (total of 24 hours). Then I drained and filled oil but put in 20% MMO. I'm curious to how it'll be in the long term. Though my engine may be long gone to a point where MMO makes no difference. But it does sound better. I'm hoping the codes I have are something like the intake hose coming lose. HEre's to hoping.

      @@nenadmomcilovic9133 Yup, I bought the borescope just for that main reason and finally I'm gonna get to use it. LOL

      Oily plugs means your plug seals have failed - need to pull the cam covers off and replace the gaskets and plug seals.

      @@Beer_Dad1975 Mine ended up drinking 1-2 Liters of oil every 500 km, fouling my cats, then the exhaust fell off so i just called it quits and sold it at a loss.

    I tried to do it without taking that air cover off. Now seeing your video I need to do it cuz it’s too hard to get the new bulb in.

    • @DIYLifeSkills

      Yeah air filter box removal is not too hard.

      @@DIYLifeSkills the box removal wasn’t hard. I meant. Trying to do it without removing anything was hard.

    Today was the day. I had to change one of my HID bulbs. Rather than removing the covers, I permanently removed all of them.

    • @DIYLifeSkills
      @DIYLifeSkills  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not understanding. Can you explain more clearly how you replaced the HID bulb?

      @@DIYLifeSkills I am sick and tire of seeing Toyota get on that over-engineering band wagon like Audi and BMW. My stock hid headlights all falling apart. New will cost at least $800. Everytime a need to replace a bulb, I need to remove my engine compartment cosmetic panels. The push clips break all of the time. So, I removed all of them. I am looking for an HID to LED headlight kit. This ES350 is turning into a money pit. Should just sell it and get a 2004 Camry. Ridiculous!!!

    • @DIYLifeSkills
      @DIYLifeSkills  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh no. Sorry to hear. I do agree that simple Camry is so much more economical and easy to maintain. I have 2013 Camry that I bought new and I’ve done zero repair other than maintenance work.

    Yeah my GS460 HID lights generally makes a buzzing noise, the loud v8 drowns it out though lol

      Yeah I didn’t to know so it kind of scared initially. I love GS300 but I sure wished I had 460. I’m still searching...

      @@DIYLifeSkills yeah they are quite rare, especially over here in Australia.
      Thanks for these detailed vids, was thinking about replacing my headlights with the 78Works Daytime Led lights, not looking forward to removing the bumper though lol

      @@apb1441 I’ve been kind of researching LED conversion option as well should my ballast really fails. There is no OEM ballast and reviews on aftermarket ballast aren’t too good.
      Removing the front bumper ain’t too bad if you follow the video. Just gotta keep track where all the bolts and clips came off of in what sequence.
      It really helps to have a second person, particularly when you install it back. Pay special attention to the bottom of the bumper where certain sections tuck over or under other body parts. I had to take it out several time to put back in correctly finally with the help from the wife.

      I would take out your bulb and get the matching one. Not sure if 450H have different bulb.

    My driver side headlight beam pattern is really messed up it’s slanted as if the projector was rotated. Is there any way to fix it? Best way I can describe it is clock face. The driver side beam goes from 8-1 but the passenger side is 9-3.

    • @DIYLifeSkills
      @DIYLifeSkills  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm. The reflectors inside the headlight assembly is pretty fixed in its location. But I wonder if the bulb is not completely rotated locked into proper position.
      When I took apart the headlight I did see that there are both horizontal and vertical direction adjustment gears inside. But what you are talking about is different. Let me do some thinking on that.

      I just did the exact same thing. Changed an HID bulb in my 2008 ES350, turned the lights on to test and ‘Oh no, What’s that noise?’ Turns out is was there all along, I just never turned on the lights without starting the engine before.

    Awesome video! But... How bad was for you the driver side? Is a bitch! Lol. I have been trying for 20 mins and I can't get the ballast connector off. (2010 Gs350).

    • @DIYLifeSkills
      @DIYLifeSkills  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Connector will not slide out as is. You’ll have to disconnect the end of the connector before it’ll slide though like shown in the video.
