Excellent tutorial!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously, this is one of the best, well-put-together, helpful and explanatory tutorials I've come across for Massive. Very well-done, thank you so much!!!! You certainly answered a lot of questions I had and I now have a better understanding of what Massive is capable of and how to use the various features. AWESOME!!!!!
As a student of Dubspot, I can highly vouch for the school. I am by no means affiliated with them whatsoever, just a happy f*ckin student that loves showing up for classes online. The teachers actually care about making you a better producer and are always willing to go the extra length to help you as an individual. Watching tutorials only gets you so far, I highly recommend them to anyone trying to take it to the next level.
Wow, I am brand new to Massive and it blows me away how versatile this thing is. As far as the "talking" effect goes in this tutorial, if you connect the sliders in the stepper with the buttons underneath each column you get a real "wawa" and "yeya" kind of sound, more like a real phoneme.
Thank you so much for this vid. I'm very new to producing and engineering but have been a guitarist for 19 years. You really helped me understand some of the dynamics of massive. Your in depth explanation to each control was awesome. Can't wait to check out some more of your tutorials.
I have just got Massive with Maschine 1.8 update and I have ever been to bothered about using its 'ubiquitous' sound but this simple tutorial has opened out a new facet of sound design. The performance and the stepper routing options are something I don't have in my VA synth collection and something I will be looking into to experimenting with.
Thank you DUBSPOT! Thank you Heinrich! Excellent video. Clear and direct. You explained the stepper function perfectly and I am now using it in my hobby musical projects. Also great job on video editing.
@natoochrno If you are using Fruity Loops, click on the left-up corner to view a shell menu, from there choose Browse Parameters and you will get a list of all the parameters from Massive, just search for the correct one, and then right click -> create automation clip
Yes, I think I know what you're asking. You need to hold down a midi-key, either on a keyboard or you can use the computer keyboard. Try holding down "C" for example while you play with the oscilators
@DarkJuggaloNick What program are you using? Most programs will sync up the VST with the project's tempo, but if it's not, go the to Global tab, and there should be a thing that says "preset bpm", which you can modify to your liking.
Hey, Heinrich, could you possibly try and figure out how to make a bass like D-Jahsta, or Megalodon? I've been wanting to get that metallic-like bouncy bass but nothing I try in Massive sounds close to it.
@chez117 There are thousands of tutorial videos for Massive and various other synths online. Between those, reading the manual, reading tutorial articles, and experimenting, you will start creating some pretty cool shit soon.
I noticed you can actually make every waveform talk with the rate reducer. Cause every sound has that point where it is on the edge of getting broken(low sample rate) I guess..
Whats happening is that in massive, the sinewave doesnt exactly start at the beginning of the wave. When it starts at the max of the amplitude, the speaker will basically have to teleport there, like in a square wave. This gives a tick. When you listen to a square wave at a very, very low frequency, all you will hear is these ticks. I hope this explanation is a bit clear :P. Anyways, the way to get rid of this is by adjusting your attack AND your release.
Hi there. Great tutorial. I'd like to know how one would go about setting this up in a mix. I understand that this sounds got a pretty wide dynamic range (or has the potential), but should this be set up as stereo or mono? I feel like mono doesn't really make it sound in your face, but stereo makes it too wide. Any thoughts? Thanks.
Hey guys, can u plz make a step by step tutorial on how to recreate the synth sound on Rihanna's song "Where Have You Been" (Calvin Harris production). This is the sound is a sequenced riff which comes in I think roughly after 1 minute of the song. It'll also be good if u can show us how to recreate the modulation using NI Massive for this particular synth sound.
@lleksikon This is true, although I think the performer may give you more control over a longer range. The funny thing is, the next vid starts with the gliders.
hello, i have a question.. if the waves in the LFO and PERF section arent lined in white, and presets/banks that I've purchased or downloaded do not load, am I using a defective version of Massive?
my sequencer is running and im mapped to the cutoff.. ive set the sliders in different positions on the step sequencer. I see the step sequencer running but its not modulating the range of my cutoff.. any help dubspot?
I need some desperate help. I've got NI Massive on Fruity Loops 10, but the Window is too big too show the whole plugin. How can I zoom out or resize it? I've got no way of adjusting any setting under oscillator 3 :(
hey dubspot, ive been really interested in creating music and being a dj and ive saved up about 700 dolars and i already have the reasons program, but what would be a good turntable to get to start off?
8:30 sounds like the beginning of Rubber Johnny from Aphex Twin. I believe he uses some sort of digital degradation to an actual voice wavetable of some sort.
Great tutorial!
Not only do you offer an easy guide on HOW you did it, but you also actually told us WHY it makes sense to arrange the bass that way
I've just started using massive in my production and have been looking for some tutorials, yours are by far the best dude!

This is one of the best and most useful tutorial I've ever seen. The way you explain things is fantastic and easy. Thank You so much!

Unlike other tutorials, you actually giving reason to what you are doing and i was actually educated :) thank you
Excellent tutorial I like how you explain things as you go instead of just showing people where to adjust the knobs. Thanks!

great tutorials, you guys have to keep them coming they're all excellent

Professional sharp crystal clear tutorial. So refreshing! I rarely see 720p tutorials on youtube, hah
Thank you DUBSPOT! Thank you Heinrich! Excellent video. Clear and direct. You explained the stepper function perfectly and I am now using it in my hobby musical projects.
Also great job on video editing.
Great tutorial, finally someone who also explains what everything does
You did a very good job of explaining what everything did. This helped a lot. Thank you!
Nice, I like how he also explains what everything does (not 'turn this knob, now turn this knob')
awesome tutorial , thanks a lot! I know I can always count on DubSpot to give us great stuff like this. Thanks once again.
@madeyes4u massive is an instrument that is included with Komplete. Komplete is a bundle of instruments. You can buy Massive separately too.
this is a perfectly produced tutorial, excellent work
if you want more of a wub sound, go to the stepper, click the buttons in the glide mod section, and put the fader towards the bottom.
Thanks great tute. Been years since being serious about production. good starting point
Best tutorial I had so far! Thanks my man
Exceptional tutorial. Slow and Clear. I very much want to take Dubspot courses once i get the money.
Excellent, super clear tutorial. Thanks for this one.
As soon as i heard the sound when you moved the cutoff, i knew i'd struck gold. Thanks man! c:
Great tutorial and I LOVE his accent!
i love how are you explaning everything easy and cool
yes i love this....... threw it in ableton and made a awesome instrument rack and sounds great thanks for this tip 1st and 2nd vid
Thank you! Best tutorial ive seen yet...
@DJkebu you probly have an older version of massive, you have to hold ALT while you move your steps, since you dont have the snap to grid button ;)
I don't like, favorite, and subscribe alot.
But when I do, I do it for people who deserve it. Good day Heinrich
Great video!
Very clear and informative.
Thank you, guys!
great tutorial! i love your pronunciation of vowels :)
@natoochrno If you are using Fruity Loops, click on the left-up corner to view a shell menu, from there choose Browse Parameters and you will get a list of all the parameters from Massive, just search for the correct one, and then right click -> create automation clip
when i heard the "eeeyyyaaaaaaahhhh" for some reason it made me happy! lol
Thank you for doing this. I learned a lot. You're the man!:)
Yes, I think I know what you're asking. You need to hold down a midi-key, either on a keyboard or you can use the computer keyboard. Try holding down "C" for example while you play with the oscilators
this video was so good for what im looking for thank you very much
Such an excellent tutorial.
@punky14678 goto massive settings in the "Visual" section you have to check "Don't allow keyboard focus"
thank you for your time and knowledge mr tutorial man.
@DarkJuggaloNick What program are you using? Most programs will sync up the VST with the project's tempo, but if it's not, go the to Global tab, and there should be a thing that says "preset bpm", which you can modify to your liking.
hey man if you go on the plugging options and click detached you will be able to move it so u can see everything.
Hey, Heinrich, could you possibly try and figure out how to make a bass like D-Jahsta, or Megalodon? I've been wanting to get that metallic-like bouncy bass but nothing I try in Massive sounds close to it.
do you use a midi keyboard or just a normal computer keyboard?

How is the awesome zoom on the panel you are talking about achieved in the video editing?

@iAmFractalSky nevermind i didnt have the same "8 step" window selected... MAKE SURE U KEEP THE SAME STEP SEQUENCER SELECTED.. or is wont modulate.
I'm running an i7 4GB Win8 PC It runs perfectly while running several traktor and ableton software at the same time.
@LetTheGunFire He is using Massive on Ableton

Thanks for the preset. In Massive I have, don' t have the option "Snap to grid". That's because of my version? it is 1.0.01. Thanks
wonderful tutorial 😁🎹
Does any one know where you can buy the green man costume?
Why are you asking for it here? :'D
Andreas Foldager wrong video :3
Darude - sandstorm
oops wrong chat
@The4wheelfreak I think it's just played at a lower octave.
awesome tutorial
@lleksikon This is true, although I think the performer may give you more control over a longer range. The funny thing is, the next vid starts with the gliders.
@MiDnYTe25 I figured it out actually. Duplicate the video, crop the top layer, and zoom in. So simple but very effective.
@PlanB9741 for me to but i had that on my old PC that it doenst work and then you have to use Bitcrusher
I have got my Sound and I have aoutomated it in the steper, but which buton do I press to play the sequence in the stepper?
hello, i have a question.. if the waves in the LFO and PERF section arent lined in white, and presets/banks that I've purchased or downloaded do not load, am I using a defective version of Massive?
@ICutYouInTheEyes I figured it out by myself and updating it solved my problem
lol i wish this dubspot teaching centre was in finland too!
Nice one. Helped me a lot : )
great tutorial!
how do you play/preview th actual sound? like after changing settings what do you push to hear the track? please answer!
Where can I learn how to use software synths? Where did you learn how to do all of this? -Chez
my sequencer is running and im mapped to the cutoff.. ive set the sliders in different positions on the step sequencer. I see the step sequencer running but its not modulating the range of my cutoff.. any help dubspot?
My stepper doesn't have the snap to grid function or the white marker steps to adjust the vowel sounds how do you enable both?
you have done a great thing
Thanks for tuning in!
#1 Hit the tab on your top left corner of the vst #2 look at the options and hit the detached botton. : )
I don't have "Snap to Grid" option in my Massive. There is a blank box instead.
thank you dubspot!
amazing tutorial.
Is this the same thing as Native Instruments Komplete 8? Or is "Massive" something totally different?
Thank you so much, man!! :D really helped me!
can u still use massive without the keyboard??
What sound clip are you using to have a single note?
My version of massive doesn't have the Hold and Sample effect, which version is he using?
I need some desperate help. I've got NI Massive on Fruity Loops 10, but the Window is too big too show the whole plugin. How can I zoom out or resize it? I've got no way of adjusting any setting under oscillator 3 :(

Please help for some reason im not able to link my Trigger Finger controller knobs to my Massive vst nor copy the Massive track to my mixer on FL 10 ?
Thank you so much.This helped a lot.Subbing!
Just click the massive logo on the top next to the sounds list, then click the box that comes up.
why in my pc, when i do the same what you are doing in the video, in my pc sounds with some noise ?
LOL! I dont hear any sound when I do anything of that!! Is ther something I should set on in Massive to hear the sound??...
@HighDosesnSubKiller if you use FL studio it wont work you have to use bitcrusher instead of Sample & Hold
@didgeboy287 Try using an LFO instead of stepper :)
I dont have the snap to grid, I'm using FL Studio, is that why?
how do I create an automation clip of the cutoff in filter 1?
I need some help : When I open it at first i can press keys to hear sounds, but it randomly will stop when i change any settings.. :(
So I just got Massive... You can press a lot of buttons to get it to make noise, 0, 9, 7, 6, 5, 3, 2, a bunch of letters... What should I use? ._.
when i select dirty pwm i couldnt hear anything? am i ment to click somthing so i can hear the noise?
Great tutorial! :)
