      The best job I have had was a gig job with the Electrical Brotherhood.. I trained the electricians to do fire alarm for a couple of years. It was really great. The second best job I had was programming for simplex. Some release panels, but mostly just cookie cutter, audio sites.

    Maybe this would piss off some customers, and some companies but as a fire alarm technician there's no way I'm touching something with 600v in it. That's way above my pay grade. I'll confirm it's not an issue with a relay or the panel and then I'm passing it on to an electrician. I don't know too many other techs that would be willing to do that either.
    Fortunately I work in an area where I've never encountered stairwell pressurization.

      I seem to find myself in situations where there is no one around to take care of the high voltage side. I am licensed so it not really a problem, I've been wiring 600 since Madonna was a "like a virgin" so mostly I'm comfortable with it. ..but I'd rather be programming.

    • @The1025RChannel
      @The1025RChannel 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@firealarmapprentice4517 fair enough. If I was licensed I likely wouldn't mind so much. And of course common sense around high voltage like not sticking your tongue in it goes a long way. Yes I worked with someone I probably could've convinced to do that.

      @@The1025RChannel The meter I showed on there was a bit of a disappointment. Best to use a good meter like fluke, and especially good leads. Always be careful of your leads and moisture and any stray metal objects. I pulled a bonehead move the other day with a dangling ground conductor In a 100A panel. I'll spare you the details.

      It really depends on the company. A lot of companies make unbelievable promises but fail to deliver 90 percent of what you are aspiring for. If you get the opportunity to work for a distributor like NOTIFIER or MIRCOM, then you may have a future as a programmer. My 2nd best work was programming, my best work (by far) was training.
