But lets be honest valve is not all great. Team fortress 2.
The best thing is that valve sticks to their product instead of a new one every year! That's why you see defs actually put effort in making their games deck compatible.
Yeah I'd prefer to see at least 5-7 year lifecycle between hardware generations. SD has been out for at least 2-3 years now. Pretty happy with SD in general.
@DevinCurrie yeah me too. Some games are just meant to be played on the big screen with more powerful hardware, instead of trying to make them playable on a small handheld! And that's fine.
Exactly. Hopefully this also means that Valve is cooking up some nasty first-party and third-party launch titles for Steam Deck 2.
@@Gingerlion777 Honestly the CPU is pretty decent so all the SD needs for the BIG SCREEN TV is a decent eGPU dock. IMHO. But I mean like in a SteamDeck 2 iteration with a high bandwidth/low latency (possibly requiring custom) connection/port.
I wish they treated TF2 the same way...
I bought an OLED Steam Deck a few weeks ago. I’m just using it like a total noob, not realizing the potential that it holds. Holy cow.
Don't worry Padawan even us masters are still learning new things daily lol just when you thought you knew everything surprise there's always something else or new after an OS update lol
Bro, I'm lost with this thing, it can do so much that I feel like it needs to be split into separate devices (obviously that would be horrible) I just mean to say it cam do sooooo much
It’s quite daunting for someone who has been console gaming for the last 32 years. I got rid of my PS5 and Series X, recently. Now I want to build a gaming PC. Steam Deck seemed like a good stepping stone towards that.
Emudeck, proton, just to name a few things to look up. Think of it as a desktop first and foremost. Just take it a little at a time. Steam deck oled is such a good device and for the price it’s amazing.
@@Bootchair Thanks!
Valves innovations are why I have tried and returned both the ROG Ally and the Legion Go. My Steam Deck is just too good
I almost bought the Legion Go, but the seamlessness of the Deck is amazing. How was the Legion Go for you?
It may not be the most powerful on the market, its build quality is top notch. The battery life is also pretty impressive.
@McSmurfy I actually liked the ergonomics much more than my deck, and with the larger screen, I nearly kept it. It's immensely comfortable to hold despite the weight, and the fact that it could be used as a normal tablet when you detach the joycons was a huge benefit.
Dealing with Windows and not having Steam Input was what got me to return it. If someone figured out a way to get those to work better, I'd switch back in a heartbeat.
@@BennyLlama Thank the maker that steam choose to develop with Linux. Without them, people would still be loyal to windows like you have shown XD
For real heavy things I have my PC, so I dont need to give EVERYTHING to take some more performance
No wonder my Decky loader's bluetooth shortcut kinda breaks the whole decky loader, I needed to restart the Deck to get the decky loader to appear back. Turns out Valve added their own official bluetooth shortcut after the update.
Steam deck has only been bad for my walley tbh, I keep on buying games
Summer sale is at the end of this month
Deals Deals Deals lol
I just bought Just Cause 3 XXL edition with The Entropy Centre (on sale) and don't know why I went to the specials section 3 days after 😅. I am waiting for the Spider-Man game to go on sale for the Deck as I have it on PS, but being portable is nice.
@@acdnan genuine question: what are the benefits of the summer sale vs going to those steam key discount sites?
@@CodingAbroad steam keys can be bought with fraudulent methods (credit cards, stolen accounts etc). You run the risk of keys being revoked. This risk might be low but people still wish to avoid this risk and buy straight from the store.
After Microsoft dropping the ball with having an embedded spyware as part of Windows11, Valve is in a prime spot to sweep the market towards linux even further.
I literally just installed Linux Mint last night. Had a few issues, and eventually, everything worked. With the future dropping of support for Windows 10, I'm getting ready to jump ship. Unfortunately, my school requires either Windows or Mac OS. My remote proctoring software doesn't support Linux.
I've dual boot for a good while but was it for me, cant stand windows wanting to own my pc and their spyware crap anymore
The truth is this will probably, not make a big change in overall market share as most people don’t know or care.
And of the people who change most will move to Mac. As it is for most people the only other option. (This may be because of knowledge depth or software support)
Linux will only get people who were already probably willing to switch to Linux.
@@RusticRonnie with the upcoming “Apple intelligent” features which is only a matter of time before it hits Mac OS.
Apple is not exactly a safe bastion either but I agree more people will not want to mess with Linux and will take the “easier”’path of Apple vs windows
@RusticRonnie I feel like people who understand how to change OS (so not that many people) would not be willing to spend the minimum 1k just to get a MacBook to run MacOS.
i love the bluetooth battery update even if it’s small it’s just such a nice thing to have
50% watch to sub ratio is really good for smaller channels. Most of them are around 5-18%
That is decent and laughed a bit because mine is 90% not subbed. There are some that sub on a video that was helpful, others sub on the one they liked or some that don't sub, but return to watch the content (recommend tab too).
You also don’t want 100% sub ratio because that means you aren’t getting new viewers
@@RusticRonnie probably best if it is a low percentage of people are subscribed for this reason
Subscriptions may seem unnecessary nowadays as TH-cam quickly learns and displays your preferences. While they are important for creators, the average user may not feel the need to subscribe any longer.
@@potatorigs2155 I view subscriptions as a way to reward the content creator and effectively give them my stamp of approval. Outside of that though it's kind of useless lol
I’m in awe of there updates. The consistency mostly. They’ve been with us every step of the way and I can’t imagine supporting another company in the hand held wars.
I want an official Steam Deck Console Machine so much! 🤞
I built one for not much more than a "Steam Deck" using a 5 year old workstation and an AMD 7700,
What would a Steam deck console machine be? You asking for a micro pc or a dockable steam deck with improved graphics like a egpu?
When I bought steam deck I never imagined I'd be using it to stream almost everything from my desktop. I thought I'd just be playing old platformers, but heck I never sit at my desk to play games anymore
My 512 OLED Deck should arrive in the next two days. Good to see that Valve really cares about the future of its hardware. I am kinda hyped, ngl.
enjoy it brother
@@hussainali9722 Oh I do, thanks :)
@@hussainali9722u should be hyped !!!
Alone in the Dark launched at the same time as Dragons Dogma 2 and other high profile games. It was a saturated month for launches and it got outshined, the media also didn't help, saying the game wasn't good. It wasn't game of the year, but it is a nice, fun, well done game. I don't blame the developers but the publisher who decided to launch it in march.
lol nope. The AitD was just soulless de-make trash. One more modern remake garbage stealing valor from an older IP.
That trash alongside with the upcoming SH2 demake (which no SH fan is excited for) and all the RE-engine slop are everything WRONG with modern industry.
I never knew Tom Segura was a gamer. This is awesome
See you at my show in Denver
@@NerdNest 🤣🤣🤣 will Bart Chrysler be there?
I've spent a lot of time gaming on Ubuntu recently with my 5800X3D and 6700XT. Every game works great, except for Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth and Final Fantasy X. I had to run xpadneo to get controller rumble. That's all. And both those games run on Arch-based systems fine including SteamOS. Linux is a 100% feasible experience now.
That's very good to hear. I was thinking of switching to Linux and i have the same hardware (only cpu is non 3d)
Nice! Guitar hangers as controller docks will pair nicely with my capo clamped to the desk (as a headphone hanger).
Valve quietly not fixing VAC
Steam Deck Oled is my pc away from home.
SD is mutliverstile
"Nvidia is going to want to be there" - I'm not gonna disagree with you here. But there is a non zero chance Nvidia is just an AI company in a handful of years.
Very real chance.
If only they could quietly fix the wishlist experience on deck. Make it like how the android app works so you have more filtering options.
Can they fix the not downloading updates with the screen off thing?
I'm fairly sure that was in the most recent patch after you mentioned this 😅
If you like Alien Isolation, you should check out this indie “Still Wakes the Deep”
"no battle passes, no online, no micro transactions" oh, i've heard that one before!
I absolutely hate when TH-camrs try to guilt me into subbing by saying "only x% of my viewers are subbed." Like how is that my problem?
It isn't. They can eat a dozen of raw eggs. Including this guy.
I mean can’t be mad at them for trying to get more viewers and make more money.
@@even_steven777 I'm not mad about that, I'm specifically talking about their approach of telling me to sub because only 2% are subscribed. It's just a dumb sales pitch. What percentage of people are subscribed is irrelevant to me.
@@jimjohnson6944 You’re still complaining about something that doesn’t cost you anything though
@@even_steven777 and so are you. You're complaining about my complaint, which didn't cost you anything financially. Your point?
Such a breath of fresh air from most tech commentators. Subbed.
It's funny I complained for like a yr about the Bluetooth on the OG deck especially input lag it was like the Deck gods were finally listening because yeah its definitely better now. Had to use my controller wired up until recently because yeah that input lag was bad. Great info as always
I ve been following on your updates. I am Linux user with old GTX 1060 notebook. Yesterday, I tested NVIDIA proprietary driver and it was amazing experience. There is one point which NVIDIA should address in Linux Desktop: Gnome. Steam Deck users are introduced in Plasma/KDE Desktop mode. However, Gnome is hugely adopted as Linux Graphical Environment and NVIDIA propertary drivers cant speak very well.
Too bad they can't do this for TF2 and CS2...
Agreed. I don't know anything about CS2, but TF2 has that horrible bot issue that needs to be fixed.
@@NerdNest I love TF2 and honestly I had a horrible experience using Valves Servers, I have just stuck to community servers ever since. Most of those servers have there own built-in Anti-Cheat plugins which actually work.
I hope you're not discouraged! 50% is really good, especially for 66K subs, that's really good. Keep it up! Keep it going, great vid!
That Dragon Age game has major Jedi series (Fallen Order, Survivor...) vibes. Only thing that felt missing was him deflecting the spell fire back to the casters with his sword, and who knows, that might be an ability in the actual game.
I don’t remember Valve ever putting out a Steam Machines? They were all made by other companies.
Love these quick updates, keep up the great work, always a pleasure.
Settings in launcher absolutely make sense. Especially for graphics where some setting might completely break any functionality. But having it unskippable and not in a standard config format is bad practice.
It could be that NVidia is looking to have better support for linux for AI purposes rather than just games.
THIS!!!
Nvidia has more or less stated that they focus on AI only now.
But they DID hire a dude that has been involved with the open source nvidia driver (NVK), and let him keep working on that while working for nvidia.
You can see this by looking at the commits he made to NVK, they all came from his new email adress at nvidia. :)
Gaben still hasn’t fix the TF2 bit crisis.
I'll believe Bioware when is see it.
Bioware is dead. The people using their name are lame imposters.
I wish they would just give Dragon Age Origins a good remaster.
Very good vid, well made and easy to follow
Fun fact: was checking out SteamOS 3.6 and it took my Portal RTX mod and increased it from 30fps to 40fps meaning RT performance is getting serious improvements!
Never knew tom segura liked the steam deck
The SteamDeck is an incredible device! Hard to overlook it's functionality, inputs and adaptability, and with 3rd party dock, becomes a solid computer in Desktop Mode 8) Thanks for the update! I appreciate the input mod abilities for older titles immensely.
I want the OLED SD so bad but I already have the LCD and cannot find an excuse to upgrade, because the LCD is amazing as well :(
Unless your name starts with "Team" and ends with "Fortress 2"
LOL, you could try the 8BitDo Ultimate V2 controller if you are lazy to charge your controller, this one comes with a Dock you slip it onto and it keeps it charged for you
Yea they are very nice controllers.
Valve only need to add an office / productivity suite and media player in their store and release steam OS for public & it could easily replace windows
Keeping controller fully charge damages the battery over time. I'd like to keep mine at 50% and charge no more than 90%. I've been doing this since PS3 era and all of my Dualshock 3 controller still works like a charm.
Thanks Tommy Buns for these steam deck news and updates!
I've watched so many of your videos for moths and just subscribed today 😂 but 50% subscribe ratio is super super good
Welcome aboard!
>everything
*looks at current state of their multiplayer games*
9:10 It's pretty sad that this has to be stated nowadays with singleplayer games, but it's still good to hear
With 10-20ft USB-C cables available it just seems like less hassle to play wired all the time. Plus with most stuff USB-C now you can just run one long cable and swap which controller you plug in at the end. I used to think bluetooth was super cool but I'm just way over it now. Still a good addition to SteamOS anyway.
I wish they would fix Raiden fighters collection on steamdeck. It launches but just a black screen.
Got my Oled a week ago and I am glad I picked this over the Legion Go because I don't want a hassle with Windows and just game. I do like how much support the Deck has from Valve to the community and so on.
Same here. If I wanna tinker with settings in windows and stay plugged in all the time I got a gaming pc for that
See the question i have when i hear Valve should make SteamOS available on other devices , is what does that really mean though i.e. what is it people expect or are waiting for from what they refer to as SteamOS when referencing other devices ? SteamOS being composed of open source projects is available today to any hardware vendor. SteamOS is essentially Arch+KDE+Flatpaks+Gamescope+Steam with the default Session set to launch Gamescope+Steam Big Picture & when you exit to Desktop launching a KDE Session & this is not difficult to setup. For an end user from scratch with no Linux knowledge it would be, but not for a Hardware vendor. What i think people mean though is they want to see the Homogenised experience of the Steam Deck available from installing a 'SteamOS' , which if you look at something like HoloISO listing incompatible hardware on various devices would be the same situation if Valve where to package up an ISO and call is SteamOS - so that Steam Deck experience , if that is what people think a SteamOS install would give them, wouldn't exist on other Hardware, because drivers don't exist. Valve would be taking on a mammoth task to give that same experience on non-Valve Hardware and that just doesn't seem realistic. But as mentioned there is nothing to stop Vendors launching a Linux based handheld that could give just as complete an experience & it would also save them some costs on licensing Windows, that's why something like the OrangePI Neo will be an interesting launch in association with Manjaro.
Not hard at all.
I can't in good conscience recommend anything connected to Manjaro, they screw over the users constantly putting blame on them for stuff MANJARO fks up. Quite the oposite actually, I recommend NEVER to use anything Manjaro.
Yesterday when helping a friend updating a manjaro installation (stable branch). Suddenly there were 13 packages "installed from the AUR", something they say might break manjaro, and if you install things from the AUR, THEY NO LONGER GIVE SUPPORT.
Let me repeat that, MANJARO put things from the AUR on the machine, and by doing so removing support for that device...
But EndeavourOS comes to mind
Just install that (and steam) and you are more or less good to go.
Valve should NOT make a "general operating system", they should stick to their hardware, ie the steamdeck.
Previous SteamOS versions ran good on my PC, no issues
Been lurking for a while on this channel, time to sub 😅
Another great video. Keep it up Bill!
May I know your opinion on the black screen issue? That is the reason I am still not buying. I keep hearing people having black screen with no permanent fix?
it got fixed , had it for few moments long time ago
Have you played Still Wakes the Deep yet?
I just want them to fix the Steam UI...
I’ve seen a handful of people talk about the battery life thing, but it still hasn’t worked for me yet. I see the option to wake the steam deck with each controller, but no battery life
Bought the OLED and I’m loving it!
regarding dragon age, i'll believe when i see it.
Here's to hoping EA FINALLY get the message that people just want their quality single player titles without all that crap in the way. I kinda doubt it in the long run but maybe with the market tanking they are going to try something "new" (as in the way everything was before and things where just fine).
It's EA, I will believe it about 6-12 months after the initial review wave is out and it is confirmed in the PC gaming Wiki. That's the level of trust EA has earned over the last 20 years. They worked hard to get there, we should respect that.
Still haven’t see my fucking drivers
Looking for some good racing games on Steam Deck any recommendation? EA having NFS doesn’t seem to play well with verified status
Forza plays well 👍
Saw Assetto Corsa on sale now cheap on Steam. Not sure how good the game is but might be worth checking out. I enjoyed playing racing sims but didn't put serious money into buying a decent racing wheels, driveshaft, seat, wheel stand, etc. Lol
Flatout Ultimate Carnage I highly recommend it, especially now since the game was fixed up to be deck compatible
Wreckfest is a banger
Gaming on Linux is the only thing that keeps me from ditching away windows.
Deck needs a faster APU , it's just not strong enough to play new games even at 30fps 720p
What is the game featured on the thumbnail for this vid? Looks intriguing, like an indie condemned or something
Did they fix their global availability? Still lots of countries where it's not available
There have been some grievances with the Dragon Age game, but I will say the lack of online requirements and microtransactions is at least a good-faith gesture that might make me overlook some of its faults.
The fact that it's EA, and I've boycotted EA for the online single-player requirements, removing it makes me almost want to return the goodwill and positively reinforce this behavior.
I've had my oled for about 3 months now and my only complaint is the storage. My library is huge but the low storage really limits me. Everything else is perfect though. Easily the best handheld I've ever had
Easy to upgrade the nvme
Or buy an sd card😂
@@thefox5301 bought a 1tb sd card day one. Still not enough when AAA games take up 60-100 gigs of storage nowadays.
low watch to sub ratio is good, means exposure to new viewers
Legion Go spoiled me with the screen size as my first mobile pc. Not sure why steam deck won't go XL especially with minisforum and onexplayer putting out decent 10 inch plus products
I still use my alienware alpha r2 most days and would love an updated steam machine, or I would just build my own if valve released the new steam OS to the public. I know chimera OS exists but it doesn't look as easy to navigate than steam OS.
Using linux with nvidia will be great when their new driver 555 releases.
We are at the moment in gaming, when companies are proud, that singleplayer game doesn’t require online access and micro transactions.
That’s pretty sad.
If someone at Valve would fix the crashing issue with Crimson Skies, that would be great.
Game looks and plays fantastic on SteamOS but the game crashes after a mission in the campaign so you can't ever really move forward sadly. :(
Any mods for it?
@@chillnspace777 Not that I know of. None that fixed this exact issue anyway. I'll have to keep looking.
New here. Got me with the thumbnail. Where/how did you get the two-tone skin/shell for your steam deck?
Affinity designer. (I Photoshopped it )
😱
Meanwhile my Steam deck can't connect to my 5ghz wifi on my kitchen but can with the 2.4ghz of my room...
Did you check it with any other 5Ghz WAPs? If it can't connect to 5Gz then RMA for the WiFi card, just make sure to factory reset before sending back
@@ThePlayerOfGames yes, it can connect to my phone's hotspot 5GHZ with wap2 password. And I don't know if I am eligible for customer service, they helped me preorder it day one via other account by a friend (no longer friend btw)
Steam deck with the dock is my best purchase in years its like a steam console i love it.
It would be nice for them to fix Half-Life mods to work on the steam deck directly it's been a stinking experience try to get GoldenEye source to work on steam deck
If i already have a steam account, i don't want to sign up for anther publisher launcher account. Many of us old gamers just want simplicity at this time and age.
I am gonna wait for the Steam Deck 2.
I will never use ARM windows machines.
They be fixing everything except the TF2 botting problema lmao
I guess I'll ask here. But how has VRR compatibility been? I can't get it to work with my LG TV at all. Has there been talk of another dock update? I feel like it's needed
Wish some of these anti cheats games will become compatible. My Rog Ally’s interface just doesn’t do it for me.
My steam deck is not showing my dualshock 4 battery, is there a bug or do i need to do something?
10:45 the AitD de-make was yet another soulless modern cash-grab. Brown and gray over-shoulder shooter with tons of handholding.
Do not feel "bad" for culling what's just one more cancer spore on this industry. The quicker we get rid of this "played safe" FortNite x TLOU style, casualized "Amazon Prime adaptation" demake trend, the better. RE, SH and AitD all need to go back to cinematic camera angles, tank controls, limited saves and all that cool stuff. Don't care if it filters ADHD zoomies, they either learn to play the games or get lost.
Timestamps Please!!!
You doing something new in the sauce with the vids, lately? Cinebloom or something? Looks good.
Yeah. Filter on the lens.
ADATA is making their own gaming handheld and it will be the first one to use those new CAMM2 memory modules that were announced at this years Computext. Pretty much those CAMM2 memory modules is having dual channel memory on 1 module saving on space which could be very useful for Laptops and gaming handheld PCs. I heard about Nvidia wanting to be more Linux friendly than they had been in the past.
Valve has the best console UI, and they barely make a console.
I call Bethesda "Silly B" because they've made some great games and some not great, borked games. And the horse physics in Skyrim.
Linux is the best thing about Steam Deck imo, sadly i have found i never use my Steam Deck and it just sits in my livingroom for the off chance i want to stream to it onto my TV (i need a new dock though don't my second Jsaux one has died). I just didn't think small screen gaming is my thing.😊
Valve is downright amazing. I rock an ally with bazzite even though it’s not a steam deck we get the full steam deck software experience! It turns the ally from an irritating janky windows 11 device to a machine running whats basicly steamOS. Bought it because i knew the Linux community would eat this shit up and they absolutely have. Thank you valve for making Linux gaming viable.
I wasn't subscribed to the channel and I didn't even know
I would love for the steam deck to return too, I personally probably wouldn't buy one as I have a deck and a PC so it fills no need I have. I would like to see it return though because I want as many people on the PC platform as possible I think it is the best way to go and the steam box could have been (through better marketing) a great gateway to the platform for console gamers due to its plug and play nature.
I just purchased the Alien Isolation (package) to play on the Steam Deck OLED since you said it's amazing. And I have no horror genre on my steam deck.....
You’re going to love that game.
