Su glad I came across of this video, we picked the builder to build our home with General Shale's brick house, snowy ridge is the light color bricks we picked. So excited, can't wait to see them get built.
I was hoping for a more honest comparison 😕. Good lord, was that object penetrating the fiber cement fired from a canon? Ive had hardie color plus frosted green fiber cement on my house for 15 years. Still looks great. The caulking where the trim boards meets my azek is separating over time though so its not really 100% maintenance free I will agree. Im a little too chicken to go up there with a ladder I must admit. I was thinking of using Quad OSI but I must admit I'm not a fan of 36 foot extensions ladders. 😖
We are glad you asked, Peter! Yes, that 2x4 was shot out of a cannon to simulate wind speeds that can carry debris in high windstorms and severe weather. Check out this article and video where high winds carried debris from a nearby building penetrating a fiber cement exterior. Article: ( who13.com/news/severe-storm-sent-large-lumber-piercing-through-perry-home/ ) Video: ( th-cam.com/video/YmeEzYjb-bk/w-d-xo.html ) It may be hard to believe before someone sees it, but we hope this story brings light to the concern of the topic. We are always happy to answer any questions you may have about bricks safety, durability, low maintenance, energy efficiency or anything else that comes to mind. Just let us know! - GS
Isn't there an air barrier between the structural wood home and brick itself? To my knowledge, on a wood home brick acts more like a shell and not add to the structural integrity of the house itself. Unlike brick cladding/Veneer would and provide some r-value I would assume. Stucco is another good option since it would add to the structural integrity of a home since it's practically conrete. Correct me if I'm wrong.
In Colorado, newer homes are built out of fiber cement, cedar, vinyl and brick facade. And people are buying them at a high price. I prefer brick. My current home is 2/3rds brick and 1/3rd vinyl and I just sold it. The faster home builders can put up a house the better for them$$$. There was a recent fire near Boulder, CO, took down over 1600 homes like they were made out of paper. The homes were cheaply made. Hard to find a brick home anymore. Cost of labor is high.
Would be nice to see a more critical look at brick too; from a brick purveyor, the buyer doesn't know what you're not saying but a competitor might. How much does the underlayment/backer board material cost for a brick facade, etc. On another subject, I long for the day when we retire the term 'dream home'.
Hello, DavenH ! We are sorry if you missed the note at the bottom of the graphic at ( 2:02 ) but the square foot cost we listed for brick is an accurate cost that includes both product and typical installation. So, considering curb appeal, safety, energy efficiency, little to no maintenance and the and longevity of brick, this cladding material has proven to be the best exterior option for both residential and commercial projects. If you have any specific questions about brick verses fiber cement siding or other exterior cladding materials, we are here to help answer them for you! Just let us know. - GS

This definitely is just a commercial to sell your brick products but from the standpoint of a contractor, like myself, things are not this easy. You can do with fibercement boards everything you can with brick with a fraction of the cost. I can make fibercement walls look like real brick. I understand you have a product and you back your product but it's unethical doing so by basically lying
Hello, AJ! We certainly understand other companies will back their cladding material but when you compare these two, it’s hard to beat the durability, safety, energy efficiency and longevity brick brings to any project. - GS
@@alexmartin6136 Sorry but that's not the truth. There are pros and cons to both when compared but this is totally one sided. Fiber cement is way cheaper than brick and customizable. You can give a fibercement wall any texture or design you want. If a professional makes the build and installation there will be no joint problems. Also, fibercement boards, at least ¾" will not break that easily with a 2×4. We are talking that it still is cement and it's a compound between different materials + fiber. Fibercement buildings are insulated on the inside walls and due to the small gap you leave between panels, in case of earthquakes, they withstand better because they don't have rigid joints allowing the walls to shake without cracking or falling down. There are many differences between this two and many more cons and pros.
Real unbiased opinion.

What if you already have ugly vinyl siding on your house. Would it be worth it to replace with brick (cost wise)?

I am seeing a lot of new homes built near my area using Nichiha fibre cement. How do those compare to traditional Brick veneer?
Well in my country all houses are made of either clay brick or cement brick
Can u say about red interlocking bricks

@@GeneralShaleBrick extremely one sided and did an awful job at comparing the two
