  • www.crosstraini... Our long-term review of our Sherco 250SE and 300SE factory models after seven months and plenty of riding! I had many requests for a comprehensive review on our 2022 Sherco 250SE and 300SE Factory models. After seven months and plenty of riding, here is our long-term review. We will start with things we love, then finish with things we hate. This will all apply as a 2023 Sherco 300SE review too. The Sherco 300SE engine. We love it! We suspect the electronic power valve is part of the reason. And of course Sherco is thankfully using carburetors as per the 2023 Sherco 250SE review. There is so much grunt at low revs for our hard enduro riding. In fact sometimes the 300SE breaks traction at low revs when I don't want it to. We had plenty of chances to ride other brands back-to-back for a 2023 Sherco 250SE Factory review. We think only the Beta RR300 comes close to the same power delivery at low revs. It would be interesting to see some dyno charts comparing all the various models in a 2023 Sherco 300SE Factory review. KYB suspension. Generally this gets rave reviews.Sherco 300SE known issues to follow. It certainly soaks up the punishment if you ride aggressively! Some riders into hard enduro have said the forks were a bit harsh and had them revalved. The 250SE is often better in slippery terrain. Sherco introduced a counter-balancer on the Sherco 250SE Factory and 300SE in 2021. The engine feels very smooth - not quite as smooth as the Beta and TPI models but close. Sherco 250SE known issues to follow. Oddly enough, I think they are too harsh for our slow riding. But Jeff loves the forks on his 250SE. Of course, these are the 'higher spec' Factory models set up for racing. Unfortunately the base model with softer suspension wasn't available last year and it would probably have suited our style of riding better.Overall handling of the Sherco 300SE Factory? Great at low or high speed. This has been a real bonus for me after the Beta Xtrainer. Jeff said the 250SE is the most comfortable and best motorbike he's ever owned. But of course generally all the two strokes are very good nowadays. If you like bling, you will like the Sherco 250SE Factory model. For 2023, Sherco is only offering this Factory model so it will be interesting to see if they make any changes to the KYB suspension. Galfer discs, FMF muffler, Selle Dalla Valle gripper seat, Neken triple-clamps, composite rear sprocket, Excel rims, AXP skidplate. We aren't into bling. But the gripper seat has been great! There is no sliding around on steep climbs and descents. What about the Sherco 300SE known issues and problems? Tall riders usually feel cramped and opt for bar risers. We did. Shorter riders will love the handlebar setup. Clutches are getting very light on most brands. But Sherco hasn't acted on this yet. Thankfully it's cheap to fix. Some riders who don't ride aggressively simply remove two clutch springs. Otherwise you can spend $30 and replace three of the springs with these KTM ones. Adler clutch plates on the Sherco 300SE Factory. They work for the vast majority of riders. Tim Coleman abuses his clutch constantly with zero problems. The good news is Sherco has resolved a lot of issues in recent years. If you are thinking of buying an older model, see our known issues video. So what about the Sherco 2022 and 2023 models?This is just personal preference, but Sherco use the same low handlebars on their trials models and the enduro models. However, a small percentage of riders have issues at low hours. It happened on Jeff's 250 at 20 hours. Funny noises. We checked the clutch plates and had to replace them. Some Sherco owners suspect Adler occasionally has quality control issues and they fit Honda clutch plates instead. Fouling spark plugs on the Sherco 250SE Factory. This was a common problem on older Shercos. But it still occurs occasionally because they are jetted too rich from the factory. Sometimes the dealer doesn't make the necessary adjustments, and they fail to advise the customer that changes will be needed. We have no issues with our cooling fans, but it seems a small percentage of cooling fans fail at low hours and are replaced under warranty. Sometimes the Sherco 300SE Factory fuel tank and radiator shroud plastics still don't line up well. There's a gap on my 300SE, but the 250SE is perfect. It all works fine, but just strange they still get this wrong occasionally. The fuel tap location. It's terrible! We usually get of the motorbikes to try and reach it. That engine more than makes up for niggling little issues. Sometimes they do rejet the carb but it can still be a bit rich. This happened to my Sherco 300SE. To complicate the issue, many think Sherco's recent jetting recommendations are too rich in the 2018 manuals and on. Refer to the 2017 manual for more accurate jetting settings.

    LONG TERM UPDATE A year after posting vid, still loving the Sherco 250SE and 300SE with no issues to report after making this vid.
    FURTHER POSSIBLE ISSUES This vid has already come out on Facebook. A few guys mentioned the rear brake cylinder rubbed against the swing arm and started to leave marks. Apparently it's an easy fix, just bend the bracket a little. If buying a new Sherco, keep an eye out for this. Didn't happen to ours.
    CLUTCH PLATES The occasional hit-and-miss quality of Adler clutch plates... you can replace with aftermarket plates from Prox or Rekluse. A cheap option apparently is 1996 Honda XR600 plates but make sure you buy the right number to get the correct width when all the plates are put together. Also, the clutch basket can be drilled to increase oil flow to the plates. A Sherco race team has done this with good results. We have a vid about this free mod. th-cam.com/video/bR3tH3JNXp4/w-d-xo.html
    SOFTER CLUTCH? Softer springs were mentioned in the vid. And also removing two springs since there are six in place. I've done the latter for two years with zero issues. However, there can be some clutch slip at full throttle in higher gears, but I never ride like that lol. If you rarely hit the powerband it's worth looking at. See this vid: th-cam.com/video/41DyblFBfr8/w-d-xo.html
    JETTING: in the vast majority of cases, the carbs are jetted way too rich, especially following recent Sherco manual recommendations from 2018 and on. Most dealers will fix this before selling. My dealer did, but it was still too rich and occasionally foul plugs. If you can get hold of a 2017 Sherco manual, the factory recommendations were quite accurate back then. My personal experience? I bought the N8RG needle from Sherco and used the second highest clip. The bike no longer fouls plugs, splutters, or dribbles spooge... woohoo! This is working great at sea level to 400 metres and temperatures from 20 to 30C.
    WEAK CHAIN GUIDE f you ride a lot of gnarly terrain you may find your chain derails if the guide is knocked around and you may want to fit a stronger aftermarket one. It's not just Sherco, Beta is well known for the same issue. Only KTM seems to provide a sturdy chain guide from the factory. Does it happen often? It depends on how you ride. We spend a lot of time in gnarly tracks but try to 'think' our way instead of bash through. I've had two chains derail in 18 months.

    I bought my sherco se300 factory this summer with 2hours and now it has ~16 hours on it. I replaced all 6 clutch springs with ktm ones and this makes a big difference with the pulling force. No problem with this mod at all.
    Since I am 1,91m tall I just ordered carapaks foot pegs which are 1cm lower and 1cm more backwards. I wanted to try this instead of using bar risers.
    I confirm the way to rich jetting (and still the recommendation in the manual is too rich).
    Only problem with the bike up so far:
    My speedometer is not water proof and failed after first bike cleaning. Got replacement by the dealer. I pull a plastic bag over it now when cleaning the bike.
    And I have to say the wheel bearings and the deflection bearings were in my opinion greased not enough. Read about that and checked luckily early enough.
    I do not regret the swap to the french bike, love the torque of the engine and the electric power valve is awesome.

    As usual, nice review! On the jetting topic, I have found that the "recommended" jetting is always too rich. I bought a jetting kit from a well know aftermarket company and the jetting in the chart was still too rich. I called and talked to he owner because I thought I should be going leaner but wanted to get his opinion before doing it. He said, yeah, the jetting he shows is a bit rich but only because of liability concerns. He told me the jetting I thought I should use would be fine. Bottom line is to jet for your preferences regardless of the recommendations. Of course that's assuming you know how to jet the carb!!

    All spot on from what I’ve experienced. I did loose my fan at 100 hours. A Spal fan and four KTM fan screws make for a reliable, plug in upgrade, just cut the stock fan off the bracket and drill four holes. My clutch howled, but it never broke a plate. I replaced drive and friction with the Rekluse replacement pack $214 US dollars, better engagement and the slight drag is gone, especially for those like me that keep three fingers on the bar. N8RW or NECW needles up here @ 7-10k feet. Otherwise it just goes and goes, love it.

    When I rode both the Sherco 250 and 300 at a demo day last year I thought the 250 suspension was MUCH plusher than the 300. Not sure if the valving is different or something with the setup on those two bikes specifically. Interestingly enough I like the Beta and Sherco 250s more than the 300s. I ride a GasGas 300 TPI right now and the power delivery on those 250s feels very similar to me. The 300s feel like they have too much power and (as you said) break traction a bit easier.

    • @crosstrainingenduro

    So I have a love hate relationship with my 2022 se 300 factory. The first season on the bike i absolutley loved it, i ride woods and alot of track. This season....has been stressful. For some reason the electrical in the bike has failed.bike was parked at the end of season( i live in alberta canada) when spring came the bike would not start. Long story short, my bike has been in the shop for 4 months and the issue has not been resolved.new ecu, new coil and new harness. It will start but surges to the point you cant even put in gear. Season has been ruined and thousands spent on a already exspensive bike. Not sure i would ever buy one again, but again when its runs it is very nice. But it did appear they had fixed them in recent years. I wonder whether it's worth approaching the Sherco distributor in Canada and arguing the case under consumer law. We reckon the Michelins are brilliant but way too expensive here to consider them as replacements.

    i know the shercos are slightly heavier than some other enduro bikes do you find they feel heavy

    • @crosstrainingenduro
      @crosstrainingenduro  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Probably only if we have to lift the bike out of a hole. Otherwise we can't really pick the difference.

      @@crosstrainingenduro I'm definitely considering a Sherco 250 , I can't seem to find a "Wet weight" online anywhere , have you managed to weigh the sherco full of fuel ? My Xtrainer is only 107.5 kg full of fuel , hope the Sherco isn't to much heavier to lift when I drop it

    hello, Beta RR 300 or Sherco se factory 300, which is more powerful, more aggressive, more brutal, more reliable, faster in the forest on difficult trails and difficult climbs thanks to the people who will answer me!🤝🏻

      @crosstrainingenduro  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Unless you are an incredibly experienced rider (probably with a lot of A grade racing in your past) you'd actually find you'll be slower on an aggressively powerful bike. You'll become much faster by actually working on your riding technique instead of trying to figure out which bike has three more hp.....

    Hi I've got the 2022 se 300. Just changed the clutch plates at 85hrs. The clucth squealed under load. I was using the 3 ktm springs to soften the pull. Found the last friction plate was broken. Gone back to stock springs and rekluse plates.
    My ktm springs are shorter the stock just like your photo. Is that a issue?

      I'm no mechanic, David. So I don't really know. But I google far and wide to see if anyone ever had troubles with this... couldn't find any issues.

    Wich carb settings you youse For 300 se 2023?

    • @crosstrainingenduro
      @crosstrainingenduro  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As mentioned in this vid, we follow the Sherco jetting chart from 2017. The settings were too rich after that.

    Loving my 23 se300 only have 15hrs on it so far
    Worst I've had is mistaken to be a Yamaha...
    Niggle for me as mostly faster enduro work is when a full tank of fuel can have a large effect on steering less 3/4 its apples.
    Although have installed gold valves and springs suitable to my weight.
    I feel i could get away with a little more fork spring and that would help
    I did a jd jetting kit on mine also has helped smaller throttle opening response.
    Also in a fall doesn't take much to move the bars in the clamps...

      What do you mean less than 3/4 it’s apples when concerning the fuel tank?

    • @morcs1522
      @morcs1522 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When tank is full front can push on initial turn in. I think with the slightly heavier springs will help hold front end up with initial weight transfer and turn in.
      I'm referring to the extra weight up high and as not ridden much with a tank larger then 7 litres
      As coming off mx bikes previously...

    Salut , moi j’aime beaucoup la géométrie de la partie cycle, la douceur du moteur , la position de conduite, j’aime moins le levier d embrayage assez dur , le dessin de la selle qui ne me permet pas de serré la moto avec les genoux au bonne endroit, sinon dans l ensemble je trouve la sherco un bonne moto , sherco 300 se factory 2021 , merci

      The clutch is still very hard on the 2024 models, malheureusement. 😒

    • @crosstrainingenduro
      @crosstrainingenduro  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Impossible to say, so many variables. Any European brand will be better than 99% of us actual riders. The only serious question is how to become a better rider IMO.
