Great videos guys. You know I have watched a lot of TH-cam videos to learn about All Grain and you are the only one to teach me that the overflow pipe is to stop the element going dry. Thank you. Keep up the good work.
Hey mate do you ever get a situation where the pump struggle to bring liquid up for the mash? I don't know if the filter it getting clogged early on and so restricting flow or if I have a dodgy pump?
Hi, thanks for the video. Since using it more have you noticed it lift itself from the amount of wort on the top plate? Mine keeps shifting during the mash. Wondering how best to stop this? Thanks
great video, I ended up purchasing this bad boy, but I note in a subsequent video you had a clamp to stop the top plate collapsing? any ideas what specific sized clamp you used? many thanks!!
Thanks to your video I realized that I'm not mashing completely right :) I always leave the grain stopper on the overflow pipe... My mash efficiency has always been fine and the wort has never overflown. So I'm wondering what does the overflow pipe do exactly. You mention that the overflow pipe is there do avoid that the element at the bottom of the grainfather does not run dry, can you please develop on that? What element are you talking about?
The base of the grainfather contains the heating element that increases the temperature or maintains the temperature of the water. If you have a stuck mesh or if the wort flows slowly through your mash you can wind up with all your wort on top of the mash and very little sitting at the bottom of the Grainfather. If there is little at the bottom it can overheat scorch or cause issues.
I like your videos, thanks for putting them up and helping the brew community in general. I reckon you could remove the filter and clean it early in the process. It's my experience that most of the smaller grain particles (draff) will get caught fairly early. After cleaning and refitting it should allow the clear wort to recirc better. Thanks again.
Ive used the tea strainer for last 2 years, and does the job but same problem you have on some grain bills. especially big stouts. although i never run my flow at full speed, so dont get too much hassle, but ive been toying with the idea of getting this, but hadnt seen much feedback on it yet so cheers for the video. looks to do a bit better job than the strainer so think its a purchase i will make now. cheers mate :)
Thanks mate.... bugger all instructions with this thing and while it seems simple, Im sure it would be easy to put it in the wrong place or the wrong way...so cheers.. appreciate it.
I'm currently thinking of buying this. Not a big purchase money-wise, but I like to not go overboard with the equipment (brewing in a city apartment). Therefore I wonder if it actually has any impact on the resulting wort/beer. Can you report on this in any way? Did it have any impact on clarity or head retention? Any noticeable difference? Reducing the amount of grain bits in the boil would seem to be beneficial for the shelf-life and flavour stability (something to do with fatty acids, iirc).
@@abernethybrothersbrewing3838 ok. I think the filter is a good idea. Adds longevity to the pump and should make a clearer beer. I am considering a Grainfather although there are many cheaper options available. I have been holding back on purchasing an all grain system until I see the design and cost of the latest Grainfather unit - the G70. Keep up the good work. Your videos are practical and informative, Cheers
No worries mate - yeah you can make great beer in different ways. We did extract for fair while before we jumped to grain. I am enjoying the recipe design and creativity you can have using grain. Thanks for watching
Just picked up one of these filters in an accessory pack so thankful for the info in your video, thanks.

No worries mate - thanks for watching and commenting. Happy brewing
I was looking for an answer to that question as well!
Used this for the first time today. Great addition to the Grainfather
Excellent- happy brewing
Thank you - nice review.
I’ve picked one of these up but haven’t used it in anger yet.
Thanks for watching - yes think I will use it for most of my brews - good luck
What a great idea, I think this could be handy for future brews. Nice and informative video. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers mate - happy brewing & thanks for watching

Thanks mate - I do give a bit of an update on what I do in the latest video - check this out - Grainfather BrewDay - Vienna Lager Grain to Glass

Thanks for the video, maybe getting another filter and swapping it out during the mash might help avoid the clogged screen .
Yeah you could do that. It would be a bit of messing around. Most brews I do don’t have a problem. Thanks for watching

No worries mate - given they are reasonably priced I thought why not give it a go. All the best brewing

Yeah difficult to quantify - definitely less grain in boil. Due for another vlog soon
Did you notice any deposit on the bottom of the filter?
No I didn’t mate. Well none of significance - it was mostly on the side

Merry Christmas Eve lads. I wish you the best for 2020
Merry Christmas mate - all the best to you and your family 🍻
Are you still happy with it?
Yeah I am - did modify how I place it in the grainfather so it doesn’t drop if the top plate drops - next vlog
@@abernethybrothersbrewing3838 thanks for your answer
I'm frothing fellas.... I need to see, WE NEED to see the brew house. Also in need a few pointers on hops.
Cheers mate - lots of progress but lacing the time to put update vlog out. Watch out soon
Check your signal messages mate...lol
