    Thanks for your quality content, honestly this was so helpful! My husband loves his 935 for ironman training, i HAD a vivioactive HR for about 13 months before it was full F.U.B.A.R!!! Setting up my Vivioactive 3 today, and this whole series (including the compare and contrast!) has been so helpful! We almost got the Fenix 5 but now even MORE excited for this watch. THANK YOU!

    After being with fitbit for about 3 years I jumped ship. While an older model and certainly not the Fenix or forerunner series the current sale price of 130 at Target makes the Vivoactive 3 a steal and great entry level activity watch. I love this watch!! So much more depth, insights, features, integration with strava and so much more!

      Gentlemen, you are both very detailed and informative. A refreshing difference from the many "15 minutes of Famer's" out there who are disorganized and don't really know the products they are presenting. Keep up the great reviews. As a sidebar if you want great car reviews check out "Alex on Autos" as he explains the details clearly and concisely like you both. Take care

      Thanks Slice for the nice comments. Desfit and I are trying to bring in a new style of reviews. We also try and offer a different perspective and doing our best to ensure little overlap and whilst we are “competitors” we like to play nicely together as at the end of the day its about the viewers getting good information.

    So far I like it
    Not as bulky as my F3Hr
    Wish the bands were just little bigger but for smaller wrist it works great.
    I had to shut off the side swipe. And it right I've had my phone music start when I was in the shower scared the crap out of me. All of a sudden I heard talking and then rap music started

    • @DesFit
      @DesFit  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ha! That's funny about the rap music! Ditto on SideSwipe. Awesome idea. Not so great when the touchscreen works as well as it does. I definitely like how light it is and it's making my 5X feel like a brick on my arm.

    Another question - I can't seem to find this in anything from Garmin but I was wondering if the sleep tracker on this watch provides some sort of rating for the quality of sleep? I've transitioned from a samsung watch and it provided a percent which meant if you had a good quality sleep. Can't seem to find that anywhere

    I'm undecided whether to buy vivoactive 3 or fr 735 xt. I do not do triathlon and my activities are running, gym, hiking and swimming.

    Can we take manual laps with the button during running activity? I read somewhere that it is not possible (we can see in your video that the button is dedicated to start and stop the recording). Is it also the case during a workout? I would like to use the watch for interval running on the track. It requires to take manual lap every 200m or 400m. Is there a way to do this?
    I would like also to know if we can easily acess to the music widget during an activity? On my Vivoactive 1 I have to come back on the main screen (clock) by a long press on the screen (difficult to do during sport) and then swipe left. Futhermore the widget disappears after 10 seconds... thank you!

    Great Video, Des. Thanks ! Which one of the two would you recommend in 2020, VivoActive 3 or Forerunner 45 ? Also, here is India they are selling VivoActive 3 Element. Any idea how is it different from VivoActive 3.

    • @DesFit
      @DesFit  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Element doesn't appear to have a pool swimming profile according to the specs page, whereas the the standard vivoactive 3 that's available in the states does. There may be other nuance differences but that was the biggest thing that stood out comparing the specs. The vivoactive 3 (not the Element) has more sport profiles to choose from than the 45, but I tend to prefer the 5 physical buttons of the 45 vs the touchscreen + 1 button on the VA3, especially in sports scenarios. Thanks!

    Hey Des, since you have experience with the Apple watch as well: how is the vibration motor compared to the taptic feedback on apple's watch? I didn't like that it still makes a lot of noise with previous iterations, the Apple version is much much more covert.

    • @DesFit
      @DesFit  7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is it true, they don't have tennis as a listed sport option? I've read that in a few places and find it hard to believe.
    Also I'm reading there is no way to manually indicate you've completed a non standard length lap on the VA3?
    On Polar I could just press a button and count anything I wanted as a "lap". Seems dumb you have to "upgrade" to a fenix etc. just to be able to do something so simple.

    • @DesFit
      @DesFit  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Arcade Party apparently the next firmware update will have a manual lap option. I don’t generally comment on beta firmware but let’s hope it will come out soon. And no, no tennis from what I have seen.

    @Desfit, I have a question to ask you. I have reached an impasse in deciding between VA3 and Fenix 3 HR. I live in Canada. So the VA3 retails for 429 CAD ( SLATE / GREY ) and the Fenix 3 HR for 539 CAD. I am currently using a Fitbit Blaze and for bored of it. So features price point which one should I go for, I mean its only $100 diff. I am not a fan of Garmin pay either. Is automatic rep count really a big deal. Please let me know. Thanks a ton.
    Also, Thank you for taking your time in explaining in detail with regards to VA3, I really appreciate it. Wonderful review.

    • @DesFit
      @DesFit  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks a bunch. There's lots more to come, but I think I could address your question now. If you're bored with your FitBit, I think the VA3 would not be a significant upgrade. Rep counting is not that accurate, unfortunately. Tested over a dozen times and it's about 80-90% accurate (ex. registers 11 out of 12 reps), which means you will have to edit your rep counts almost every set. I am in the same camp as you in regards to Payments...not an important feature. As you may have seen with my other Garmin videos, I am a big fan of the fenix 3HR and if I didn't get a 5X, I would most definitely still be using it. I have not utilized maps enough to justify the 5X, to be perfectly honest.

    • @wudaliabhinavprasad

      DesFit what a swift reply. I just wanna admit that you are one of the few youtubers who actually response to my queries unlike other people. So I guess for me as if now fenix 3 hr it is, as I have to get used to the buttons that's all. Is it easy getting used to ??
      FYI, I was on phone with Garmin , they told me that the auto rep. Count is also coming to fenix 3 hr. I saw your other video where you had mentioned about it coming to forerunner 935 and fenix 5. Many thanks for reciprocating.

    • @DesFit
      @DesFit  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +abhinav prasad Very easy to get used to. A different experience than touchscreens, but the nice thing is you don’t have to look at your watch to actually perform functions. I won’t promise replying to all comments, but I’m trying my hardest.

      @wudaliabhinavprasad 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      DesFit I would most definitely go through your videos of fenix 3 hr after I purchase the watch in a couple of days. That price I mentioned is for the sapphire model. I would share my experience thanks.

    Me again. I am interested in this device but want to know more about how I can use it for strength training. Is it best to use an HRM and use this for timing the workout? I use Jefit for tracking my workouts now. Thx

    • @DesFit
      @DesFit  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Will go over that in my Gym Activities episode coming soon. The automatic rep counting is OK, but the touchscreen really helps with how you interact with the device.

      DesFit Take credit. You're doing the work. This is more and more looking like a good choice for me. I like the do everything aspect of the Apple Watch, but I don't have an iPhone. I also like the always on screen. More smartwatches should opt for these e-ink, long battery life screens.

    Hi DesFit, great video, how do you think this watch stacks up against the forerunner 235? This is as someone who would use it primarily for running (races and training sessions), but also pool swimming and cycling as well as gym workouts. Also for me a huge factor is size as i have tiny wrists so something that looks and feels slim and sleek would really help. :)

    • @DesFit
      @DesFit  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! For you, I would actually tend to lean towards the 235 as it sounds to me that you are a bit more serious than maybe what the VA3 was designed for. Weight and dimensions are nearly identical so I don't think you could go wrong with either with that in mind since both are quite svelte in my opinion.

    • @eyezaak7430
      @eyezaak7430 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok cheers, would you mind telling me how the 235 is more tailored to serious training? I cant really understand the difference (this is from someone who has never had a gps watch so i may be being stupid here). Btw thanks for replying so fast

    The rep counter and stair climber counter are both horribly off. I did 20 push-ups and it only counted 4-5. I climbed at least 20 flights worth of stairs and it only got me at 9 and had to tried multiple times just to get 12 total. I am really thinking about returning this as GPS is also not the best for me(not a fan it saying I was in the alley when I was not. Kind of looking at the Samsung Gear sport as I hear the rep counting on that is more accurate, as is GPS. Then again HR accuracy on Gear devices is a big unknown.

    • @DesFit
      @DesFit  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Tanya Bakerwitz Push ups wont register a movement unfortunately since your body is moving and not your wrist. I’m not sure of any wrist based device that could properly track that. But with that being said, rep counting still is hit and miss. Floors climbed has also notoriously been an issue with a lot of wearables (not just Garmin) since all of them rely on altimeters that don’t work as well indoors. Outdoors nearly all of them work well. In regards to GPS, you may have a faulty unit. This happens occasionally so you should try to get a replacement. Good luck!

    • @tbaker077
      @tbaker077 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      This was my replacement unit, so maybe it's a software or hardware batch issue? I dunno, but I am not liking the fact that GPS is off by that much for me, which might not bode well for my hikes. And from the videos I have seen the Samsung Gear S3 Frontier can do push-up rep counting, and lunges too.

    • @DesFit
      @DesFit  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Tanya Bakerwitz Sorry your experience is so poor. Best of luck with the Samsung’s!

    • @tbaker077
      @tbaker077 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Got the Gear S3 Frontier, as the Sport, which is the same size as the VA3 & rated at 5atm vs ip68, isn't out yet. But, so far I am liking the activity features more, and it's more accurate at catching how many flights I have gone up(pending it's a 10ft change min) than the VA3. Can't speak for the HR, but compared to a dedicated blood pressure monitor it's only 3-5bpm possibly consistently. Display is also way nicer, which will of course affect battery life, but reviews say it's 2-2 1/2 days vs 3 days I was getting on the VA3.

I don't know if it's the bright light you're shining on the screen or what but the promo photos and most TH-cam videos make this watch look great and it does not.
