Porsche 986/987 IPD intake modifications to improve the poor design. (Boxster/Cayman)

  • The IPD intake Plenum is the best way to add the larger throttle body from the 911. However, previous testing has shown it has minimal benefit, if any, for torque and HP ( • Porsche 986 Boxster S ... ). There are several engineering shortcomings to the IPD design, and we make several modifications to improve the performance.
    Stay tuned, and dyno testing will be performed later this year.

    Cant wait to see the dyno results. I'm curious to see if there is any benefit. Awesome content.

    Going catch can route? Intrigued what youre doin in place of the aos delete

      Keep the AOS. It will self drain into the block. But remove the main 3/4” vacuum line to the air intake and cap the intake port.

      @@mikepetersen3 can you explain the reason and benefit of doing this? I am rebuilding an m96.21 and deleted the secondary air system

    MaxSpeed makes a cheaper version but truth be told both companies have robbed Porsche owners since day one. Only benefit is it allows for running the larger 82mm tb and tubing. I’m amazed that ipd is still in business

      Does the 82mm fit and work on a 2.7 986? Just looking into things and want most bang for my buck but bigger isn't always better

      Sorry, this is still on my to do list to bring the car to the dynamometer. I had good intentions last summer, but my ear was busier than I wanted.

    So is the IPD plenum a scam or not? I just put one on my car, with the GT3 throttle body. Still working out some bugs (CEL).

    • @captainbuzcrust7415
      @captainbuzcrust7415 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you solve the cel if so how?

    • @JuanAdam12
      @JuanAdam12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@captainbuzcrust7415 I did. My shop used GIAC for the ECU tune. Working with GIAC, it was determined that there was a line of code that should have been deleted for my setup. I can’t recall the exact detail, but I think it had something to do with the fact that the ECU was seeing more air than it thought it should be seeing and threw a code as a result. Well, the “more air” was a feature, not a bug, so that line of code was removed. (I *think* that’s what the issue was.) The shop had to eat the cost of the second re-flash of the ECU, since it was an error on their part (they probably worked something out with GIAC). No more CEL.

      IMO, opinion, the most value of the IPD is to upsize the throttle body, but you can also use a 911 plenum to do the same thing. .

  • @lareau6
    @lareau6 ปีที่แล้ว

    The poor oem design is superior to this thing because the wave of intake must bounce of each others bank to help fill the cylinders. This was very popular 10 years ago but no one had any positive dyno test with them.

    • @mikepetersen3
      @mikepetersen3  ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with you nine times out of 10, but Porsche also wanted to keep the Boxster in a lower performance category than the 911. As such, there are ways to open up the breathing capability of the engine, and extract more performance.
