    Great to hear that the ecu settled down and the codes went away! Ipd plenum is best at smoothing out flat spot in power 4500-5500. Dyno's show a good 14-20 hp bump through the old flat spot, but only about 7-10 hp at the top end. This is not a "night and day" power modification, but in conjunction with other mods can be a nice addition. The GT3 Throttle body works best in conjunction with a hi flow exhaust system. Without hi flow exhaust you will most likely just feel better throttle response from the bigger throttle body because you are letting more air in with the same old throttle pedal positions, but about the same hp as before. Again, as a system it works well with other intake/exhaust/ecu mods. Great update!

      qikqbn77 yeah I definitely need to put my hand in my pocket again to see the best out of this mod. 👍

    Back when I use play with nodding cars, the first thing I did to increase power was install headers. That always gave a noticeable difference.
    Love your drone shots and the music is awesome. Can't wait for part 3.

    Good honest review. Needs to be brought together with 200 Cel headers and a remap from a Porsche specialist and should show some good gains.

    • @alsatch_
      @alsatch_  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mark Duffy I agree. I’m thinking I would have been better off starting with the headers 🤔

      @@alsatch_ Can confirm, this coupled with a good set of headers and a tune turns this thing into a screamer

    I’ve been on the fence about the IPD Plenum for so long especially for the 2.7L so far as gains are concerned...go in with no expectations and perhaps it’ll turn out for the better. Nonetheless, the parts themselves look awesome in the bay and simply knowing the fact that more air is entering the engine in a less restricted fashion is satisfying! Now should I go in on this upgrade???

    Thanks for these two videos. I have the same car, same wheels even and have been reading about this mod. Seems not worth it by itself but potentially worth it with an exhaust swap and remap. I'll keep mine original a bit longer!
    Love the drone shots.

    On my 986, i have a 997 plenum and throttle body(74mm). Car acted a bit weird at the first start but after driving, the ecu learned the mod. I also have secondary cat delete pipes and a modded straight through muffler. Car screams and feels quicker but a tune would help a lot im sure.

    Thanks for sharing! I saw the boost brother youtube video on the same plenum install. And they claimed that the performance is significantly better. This provides me with another perspective.

    • @alsatch_
      @alsatch_  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nhat Tran yeah I also seen their video. They didn’t seem to have any rough running after installation though.

    • @Chitown388
      @Chitown388 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alsatch_ Let us know if the performance improves after the rough running is gone. I think the boost brothers also experienced no performance gain after the install. But the performance came into place afterward, on its own, without any flashing or tuning. It came supposedly after the computer learned of the increased airflow. Like everyone else, I'd love to only spend good money for a positive difference.

    Dear Porsche 81,
    I'm also late to the party having just seen your Pt. 1 & 2 of the IPD plenum install.
    I also have an '06 Cayman S. A significant upgrade I would highly recommend is the Fabspeed Header & Maxflo muffler system. It is a great modification to increase performance and decrease weight. It might also maximize the effectiveness of the plenum. I highly recommend it.
    Thank you very much for the video and happy driving!

  • @TheYjmfan
    @TheYjmfan 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hi there probably the combination mod as you said would make the ultimate difference, I must say I feel that the performance of my Porsche is more than adequate for normal roads,unless you intend to race it on a track,also taking into account the mods have to be declared on your insurance adding to the overall cost I suppose you have to weigh up whether it’s worth it or not.

    • @alsatch_
      @alsatch_  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TheYjmfan the more I think about this, I think I would have been better off starting with the headers. Everything together would be good, but this mod on its own so far is not much different.

    My first guess was one of those corrugated lines was cracked or leaking causing unmetered air, leading to idle fluctuations and running lean. Easy enough to find with an unlit torch around any suspect joints. If the revs go up, then you are sucking in the propane or MAPP gas, and there's your leak.
    The other possibility is that it's all fine and your fuel trim tables just needed time to adjust and add more fuel to compensate for the increased airflow. The ECU has a fuel map, but it also has the ability - over time - to adjust the fuelling up or down by a SMALL amount for this particular engine. WHY? lets say one bank of cylinders has cam timing slightly different from the other bank, it's fuelling needs would be slightly different. Trim tables add or subtract very slightly from the main fuelling tables to adapt to the conditions of this particular engine. If you dramatically increase the airflow, then this would likely exceed the ability of fuel trim to fully compensate for the lean mixture.
    The fix would be to re-map the main fuel tables to allow the injectors to stay open a little bit longer at all times , boost the fuel pressure, or increase the injector size slightly.

    These cars are not meant to be driven at 2-3k rpm, and airflow-related mods will not affect low-end torque with a F-6 engine.

  • @DarkstarDarth
    @DarkstarDarth 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I wonder if a $1000 remap would be a better performance investment than just attaching the IPD on the intake.

    Thanks for these videos. I have a 2008 Cayman S that I bought last August and I was thinking of doing the same mods that you’re doing. But after seeing all the check engine light trouble I think I’ll stay away from the plenum/ throttle body mod. I’m still planning on getting a Carnewal exhaust, and perhaps a high flow air filter.

    You have changed the capacity of the throttle bodies, but the map is the same, even though the engine will settle on its old map you are leaving HP on the table, get it mapped then you’ll get a before map figure and after map figure then equate that to your gains, I’d do intake and map together then you’ll see .... if you have not seen it, monky London did a video with a guy with a 986s have a look see what he did 👍🏻

    • @alsatch_
      @alsatch_  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers, yeah i see what your saying and would make sense. Would it not make sense to also get the headers done before doing the map though? Or would the Map only effect the intake of air? Cheers.

    • @roadmantop3769
      @roadmantop3769 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mate have you done the intake (airbox) if not your still drawing the same airflow ? Panel filters are not the one.... I reckon that’s about how far you should go, then get some weight out of the car 👍🏻, these companies will empty out pockets for headers etc.... Porsche tax writ large 🤪👍🏻

    Late to the party sorry if theres more videos about it..... but did you ever get it on the rolling road after this mod and an ECU remap? I've got 987 boxter and have to say between 2000 and 3000 it needs more kick. I have read ECU remap can potentially help but have not real solid info. Apparently Porsche did this to the car to pass decibels tests for EU standards?!

    What headers cost less than a plenum?

  • @Apexjuha
    @Apexjuha 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I put the IPD on my 996 and got exactly no gain. On a very light load the response became more on/off.
    For me the IPD is pure BS. Im an aerodynamicist by profession and I dont buy the explanations of the maker. The Reynolds number is so high anyways that dimples do not help … and fuel injection is later in the channel so I can not really see any vaporising gains either nor less condensing in the inlets aft injectors.
    And it is quite a bit heavier than the plastic OEM part.
