1:21 *aaaaand that's exactly why we wanted you to react to this video.* When I first heard this song (the original) I heard that part and thought "that's awesome. Too bad it could never be performed live." and then Mitch.
@@lemondrizzlecake7766 I believe it was live as they had mikes to pick it up as is, so no pre-recording/editing/lip-sync. plus it had a sound of a live recording.
Mitch's performance of that melody is just sick. Clearly in the recording it's done mechanically, not organically by a live singer, so the accuracy/precision of Mitch's interpretation is just stunning.
@@Butterfly1025A What do you mean, just the quality of the recording? Because the quality of the vocals in aha singapore is about 100 times higher than the quality of the vocals in the defying gravity video, which is not a serious video and not a good representation of either of their skills so it's strange that it's so obsessively requested.
The crazy part is kiiara used a synthesizer to get that effect on the chorus..and mitch does it naturally and effortlessly. Crazzzy Pentatonix cheerleader is a GREAT song to showcase their harmonies, kevins insane beatboxing abilities and mitchs high notes
Great explanation and breakdown of the presentation. The one thing that actually impressed me was how Mitch was able to emulate the vocals that were digital overlays in the original version. Doing the transitions via digital editing is rather easy, but the ability to do so without the aide of a mixer or through digital editing is simply amazing. I haven't heard of any training that can get someone ready to handle such a task, so seeing someone like Mitch pull it off, and make it seem almost effortless, is astounding.
This is the song that made me wonder if Mitch knows how to do sideways yodeling, but that's the sort of thing I guess I'd probably have to find out from him. Apparently a few people just know how, and everyone else has to work really hard if they want to learn how to do it. I've seen a couple of videos explaining what you do. It involves starting with a regular yodel (chest to head), bringing the notes closer and closer together until you can change registers on the same note, and then switching it to head to chest. There's a video that shows a girl doing sideways yodeling, and it sounds a lot like it's been digitized, but it was recorded live on a digital camera while she played the piano without the instrumental music being affected. She even had someone from the local news come and watch her when she was singing so they could show that her voice wasn't being processed somehow. Some of what Mitch does in this song sounds like what she was doing, and it's really hard to learn to do.
I love how you break down exactly how to try to do what PTX did here! It's also great to get your explanation of how this performance shows their insane talents - thanks! I had looked forward to you doing this!
Another one where Mitch is doing vocal acrobatics is in their cover of Carol of the Bells. So much more than this song even. Would love to see a reaction to that. There’s an official video that pretty old and lots of more recent live performances since they’ve done it on their Christmas tour the last two years. So glad you finally got to watch a live video of them singing.
React to “Run to You”! It’s an original and absolutely heart-wrenching! On a complete side note: love watching your reaction. Your insight to the technical part is really interesting to me even though I’m not really that much of a singer (huge musician, though, I’m just a instrument person rather than vocal, though I enjoy singing).
Thank you for getting around to this! One of my all time favourite Pentatonix covers! They make it look so easy to do! Your reaction has just proven that it Really Isn’t THAT Easy! LOL. 😄
When I first heard this song I was like "it would be so sick if Pentatonix figured out a way to cover this." And they did. And of course they killed it.
Knew you would love this one! It's such a good showcase of some of their talents. Mitch with his ability to glide through tough vocals and make them effortless, Kirstin and Scott's ability to provide that background melody and make it sound so full and interesting and perfectly timed. And Kev and Avi's impeccably timed percussion section. And all done just chilling on a couch. They are amazing!
My favorite part of your reaction videos is your comments on the things which are hard to do vocally and are done well by the performer you are reacting to. Your extended explanation of Mitch's bouncing around in the melody in this video was a great example of this. Thank you.
Ahh! AHHHH! *SO* glad you took the time for this one! Been hoping you'd get here since the first time I watched you - knew you'd love it :) The critique/breakdown was amazing, as always - really appreciate hearing your insights. Thanks so much for sharing!
Pleeeease react to their cover of Can't Help Falling In Love. I believe it was Avi's last recorded song with Pentatonix, which kinda adds to the saddened dynamic of the song
Fiirrssttt wohoo. Hi Tara! Super excited for this reaction too. I gotta tell you that you are the only vocal coach who makes me want to watch all of your videos even if I don't care about the singers you are reacting to. Your reactions are just so full of information that I want to absorb it all to get better at singing.
I always love your break-downs of their technique. You mentioned at one point that they were full vibrato, all of them at one point. In an old interview (forgot where) Scott said that when they formed, they found out they all had the same vibrato and they used that to achieve certain effects. It's that fact that you were able to point out just by listening. Us "lower listeners" just know it sounds great, but can't pinpoint why. That's why I appreciate your vids. ('specially of PTX, but that's just me)
You're so good that I would sign up for the classes if I could sing, but I literally have a horrible voice. It's horrible trust me lol Anyway, I would love to see you react to Pentatonix Mary did you know:)
You know, some people are obviously more naturally talented at singing than others - but talent isn't everything, and I'm certain that most people can actually learn how to sing. You clearly love singing - you're watching vocal coaches react to music! Recommanding Pentatonix videos to them! Isn't it worth trying? At worst, you actually can't, and the situation stays the same - but you've tried. At best, you've found a new thing you really enjoy doing, and it's such a great thing.
@@HypnotizedByJyi You know, I didn't consider that. I'm just nervous about trying. Singing is really fun and I actually learn a lot just from watching vocal coaches reactions. I don't know how much more I could learn in a workshop. I mean, I doubt anyone can help my voice sound any less bad lol
Hi Tara, in the past few days I've watched a lot of reaction videos now, showing your reactions on Pentatonix and other actors. I think I've learned very much from your comments and tips in this videos. I would say that I'm hearing songs in a different way now. Thank you very much for that.
Tara, you are the music :) You carry it deep inside. You hear every particle of sound and it carries you. I am following from far away with great pleasure.
Absolutely overjoyed that you got to see this video. In studio it is so cool. They do a Daft Punk live in front of a small crowd with no mikes or effect. It's insane to hear. Oh by the way your looking great as usual.
Their Daft Punk Medley is insane! The alternating lead at 5:33 of this video has another example in the middle of that cover, and it is absolutely insane! Either this live version, or the Professional video would be a blast to watch you react to, Tara!
Outstanding review and comments, Tara! I've been hoping that you would react to this quite amazing cover. Mitch's talent is just awesome! You can see the stress in their body language. I wonder how many takes this took...?
Thank you again! Please react to Silent Night Live in a church video...it’s all live and it’s sooooo amazing on how the sound is projected throughout the video!
I had never heard the original of this song until after I heard this vid from PTX about twenty times. I never went back again to see the original and I guarantee I have seen this several hundred times. PTX has such a unique sound and I love the gist they out on most of their covers.
One suggestion is actually another Pentatonix song, “Mary Did You Know” and “Little Drummer Boy.” These are some of my favorite songs by Pentatonix and I feel that you would enjoy both of them.
I love seeing a real vocal coach react to pentatonix because I get to see what exactly it is they do that makes their cover/songs so good not just someone else appreciating PTX in the same way as me. I also get to learn a lot about singing that I wouldn’t care looking up myself If it hadn’t been for this
I’m so glad I’ve finally found someone who reacts to music the way I do. People think I’m crazy when I loose my sh**t over crescendos or riffs or RESLLY REALLY good harmonies like ahhhhhhh I just need more music. It’s nice to know you tweak a lil too when you hear a good technical execution!
I love your reactions and explanations. I'll never be a proper musician but I really appreciate knowing what it is that I'm hearing. (FYI I like your style. The shirt you're wearing right now is awesome. )
Love the reaction, but I feel like so much was overlooked! Avi was so solid and robust on the bottom, and as usual, he and Kevin were lock-step and steady. Kirstie and Scott's syncopation/backgrounds were also perfectly in sync, perfectly balanced. The entire group's blend was superior...absolutely gorgeous. And Mitch's ability to emulate digital manipulation was simply mind-blowing!
