Dame Shirley Bassey Archive: The 2019 Edition. In HD 1080p

2019 began with Dame Shirley Bassey attending the London production of Hamilton and meeting the cast backstage. Back in Monte Carlo DSB attended the Grace Kelly 90 years event curated by Stephane Bolongaro, St David's Day celebrations followed there, then it was off to Cardiff in May where DSB was being given The Freedom of Cardiff which is a very rare honour indeed.
A regular outing at Wimbledon in July, then back to Monaco for the Fight Aids Monaco fundraiser and The Red Cross Ball.
Next Unicef held its Summer Gala in Sardinia and DSB performed a star turn in the reworked Oscar dress.
Then attending the Cirque Du Soleil in Monaco with Manel Dalgo, his partner Thomas and photographic artist Kiko Alcazar who took the opportunity to capture Dame Shirley for a portrait.
A return to London and Wembley in September, where the unveiling of DSB's bronzed handprints in the Square Of Fame showed Dame Shirley in great form. Tessa Hartman's 50th birthday celebrations at Tramp nightclub was also a fun affair.
The Evening Standard Theatre awards on November 24th with sponsor Michael Kors was quickly followed by the Royal Osteoporosis Society fashion show fundraiser of designer Julien MacDonald.
Dame Shirley attended a memorial service at Westminster Abbey for Sir Donald Gosling alongside senior royals and then the finale of the year, an appearance on Michael Ball and Alfie Boe's Christmas special featuring a performance of Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas and Let It Snow - such a treat and you could feel the love the boys have for our Dame .
The three songs for this edition are The Wall, No One Ever Tells You and Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.
This all seems so surreal through the lens of 2020 for sure, so enjoy and here's hoping we see something of the Dame before year's end. Stay safe and well, best wishes, Carl.
I have been collecting Dame Shirley for over 50 years and have digitised my entire collection by date from newspapers, magazines, photos, programs, sheet music and of course the music.
I hope this series of videos will help tell Dame Shirley's story in a lineal way for fans new and old.
As a child whenever I found a photo of Dame Shirley I would wonder what the story behind the picture was, and I still do. I would cut out news clippings and put together multiple scrapbooks,
then the internet came along and an explosion of knowledge. Now I know some of the stories behind many of the photos and hope you get enjoyment in finding these stories too.
If you have an image from this year that I haven't included, please consider scanning it and sharing it. If you have a newspaper clipping, review or any other item that would expand the story please let me know. Dating items is a tricky process but I have tried as best I can to get the timeline correct.

Thank you so much for this. DSB is really a force of nature. This archive shows that amply and it must have taken a huge amount of time. When you watch and listen to her sing you know that every word is meant. She has that spell over you. I don't really follow today's music. There is a lot of stuff i hear but will there be any more real legends? Maybe it is because they are exceptional that the likes of Dame Shirley Bassey, Abba, Barbara Streisand will always be up there, never to be challenged. Thanks again.
