Did armor toughness exist in 1.8? I’ve seen a lot of 1.8 pvp plugins for 1.16 and whenever you make armor with the plugin installed it has a value of 9999 armor toughness
It did not, armor and damage mechanics were changed with the 1.9 combat update. Essentially all those plugins just give armor a near-flat damage reduction rate.

Toughness helps add onto that minimum value to help protect from higher valued attacks. What I would like to know better is how much durability is lost when hit.
I'm pretty sure durability goes down by one point everytime you take damage, no matter how much damage it is. (You can find how much durability things have on the wiki.) I'm also pretty sure that the Unbreaking enchant gives you (approximately) a 10% chance to not lose a point of durability when taking a hit, and Unbreaking three gives a total 33% chance to not lose a point of durability.
Does armor toughness affect how much hearts get taken from like diamond sword? Like armor with and without toighness... will player take the same damage or it will be lowered?
Im confused when youre saying it is blocking 79.2 instead of 80 do you mean the other .8 get lost or do the other .8 get dealt through the armor? English isnt my first language so im not entirely sure what blocked means

Make sure your armor is netherite, get potions of turtle master and magic sugar to make yourself not too slow but still have the resistance, or, even better, get a ton of consumable talismans and totems of undying. If your server has the Icy Bow enabled, that will help too. The sword of vampires may ben another addition that may help.

4% reduction per armor, - (2% - 0.1%*toughness)*damage of the attack so with a 10 attack damage, 5/5 will reduce by 20% - 1.5%*10, so 5% 7/3 will reduce by 28% - 1.7*10, so 11% for a creeper explosion in normal - 43 damage 5/5 will reduce by 20%-1.5*43, which is lower than 0, so 0 7/3 will reduce by 28%-1.7*43 , which is also lower than 0, so 0% reduction. with 20/8 you get 28.4% reduction with 18/10 you get 29% reduction. note that that's for a creeper, basically anything else, you're better off having more armor. (rule of thumb : about 1 armor for 4 toughness) there might be some breakpoints where toughness is slightly more valuable though, for example if it allows you to survive a creeper explosion.

so it's not quite that. with or without armor toughness, a lesser % of damage is resisted by armor when damage is greater. Put in mathematical terms, if there are two hits against someone wearing the same armor, with damage values A and B, and x is the percent of A damage taken as health damage, and y is the percent of B damage taken as health damage, if A>B, then x>y. All armor toughness does is reduce this difference between x and y; the higher armor toughness is, the closer x and y are to eachother. This essential means armor toughness makes armor provide more consistent damage reduction. The formula for damage taken is rather long and difficult to type in plain text, but you can find it on the armor page under armor toughness on the minecraft wiki, if you wan't to run some example numbers through it. hope this helped a bit :)
Use enchantments. Easy. If that's not enough, downgrade your Minecraft version to 1.14.2 so that you can abuse the glitch that let you put on all enchantment types onto the same armor. Have to be carful though because you can only enchant 1 thing 6 times. So you gotta do it in separate books instead of making one big book.
Good explanation, but if I may make a critique about your video... stop bobbing so much. I get it's a thing that you do to make gestures and show talking on screen and such, but it also gives motion sickness. It's okay to do it a little. But not more that 2 seconds went by before another bob happened as you talked. The purplar blocks or what ever they are called with the square repetitive pattern does not help in this regard either, making the motion sickness worse. Maybe use F5 so you have your character on screen and have something to focus on so not everything is moving, because it just made my eyes sick. All in all good video, that's just my only problem was that I had to keep looking away to stop wanting to throw up.

Doesn’t really matter, the only armor sets with toughness are Diamond and Netherite, which have the same armor.
