    Honestly, I am new to ZBrush and have been learning how to do stuff here and there (also, I come from a Maya background), but watching this video was really informative, and I learned quite a lot, so I just wanted to say thanks, and I look forward to more of your videos.

    Add an imm cube to your desired pivot location on the target subtool, split unmasked, set stager, reset orientation and send the cube to the origin with the gizmo home icon, set your second stager location. Copy and paste the stager to the subtool you want to move. if the subtool you want to move is not at the origin you can export it as an obj and re-import it with your imm cube selected, that way you dont have to copy-paste stage information but you loose polygroup. there is also a macro that lets you drop your subtool lowest point to the origin, really useful but not sure if I got it from zbrush central or it is already in the the standard installation. I wish there was a much faster way, the gizmo already has a pin that could be used but if you unlock the gizmo it snaps back to the pinned position without dragging with it the subtool

    20:53 this is odd. Joseph Drust used "Snap to Surface" in a tutorial to demonstrate how to use the zmodeler brush to retopo. I swear, I had an older Zbruhs version, and my points snapped to the surface. In the current new version, my points do not snap to the surface at all. Did I find a bug or am I just missing something substantial here? This is Joseph's tutorial I am referring to: th-cam.com/video/7-2BLGHt_js/w-d-xo.html

    Hey Michael! I recently tried to use zbrush as my main modelling plattform for Hardsurface and love it so far, but i would love to know if its possible to use for example the flatten brush with the Curve Mode to precice flatten a edge around a corner ? Best Wishes!

    • @MichaelPavlovich
      @MichaelPavlovich  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm...if it's a complicated shape I might have to brute force it with the trim adaptive brush, but if it's a flat surface, clip curve or the bevel flat brush will work, and if you can get polygroups in order, using bevel pro would do the trick as well (although would require a little setup)

      Yeah the hard part is that the edge goes around a 90 degree corner and i would love to have a consistent edge afterwards
      Bevel Pro is something i still have to look into (although i dont know if its useable for very high poly dynamesh objects)

    Hi and Micheal thanks so much. I'm wondering is there a way to assign randomly polygroups to a plane? So the whole plane has randomly polygroups set up in one go. Thanks.

    • @MichaelPavlovich
      @MichaelPavlovich  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sure, get your zmodeler brush, hover over a face, hold down space bar, and choose polygon actions > PolyGroup, Target as All Polygons, then choose something like Point Order and change the Modifiers from Full Coverage to Random Coverage, then just tap a face and it'll fill the plane with random polygroups

    I ran into an annoying bug yesterday and for the life of me i can't find a solution, so basically when autosave kicks in or when i try to save the zproject or the ztool i get an error "Locked main mem in list-out Object: . and it's unable to fully save but it does manage to save due to the crash and that ztool seems to work. The issue is that this happens on some projects and not others and i can't find a solution, some people told me it's a memory leak that Pixologic won't address. I have 46 subtools, im using 64GB or Ram, got over 100 GB of free space on each partition, tried deleting the folders in the subtool, tries switching every subtool to the lowest subdivision, nothing seems to do the trick.
    I started with a project that i made in an older version of Zbrush and i don't know if that may be the reason, the file is basically a character i sculpted and i can't export it as a different format because i have layers and on the highest level it has almost 30 mil polys.

    • @musashidanmcgrath
      @musashidanmcgrath 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This happens to me when my tool list(not subtools) gets too large. I usually just save my Ztools and restart ZB to properly clear out the list. Personally, I never save Zprojects, I only ever save Ztools. Been using Zbrush since 1.52 and have never had a Ztool file fail. I don't see any use for Zprojects as I like to work with clean Ztools.

    • @TheIcemanModdeler
      @TheIcemanModdeler 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@musashidanmcgrath My scene isn't very dense, it maybe because a few subtools were created in an older version and opened with the latest version. I did a test that it worked once with the similar issue, i opened an old Zproject that works without an issue and them imported as ZTL the problem file to fix the issue. Zprojects also load custom settings.

    • @musashidanmcgrath
      @musashidanmcgrath 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheIcemanModdeler Yes, it's a strange issue alright. I don't like Zprojects at all. I prefer to always load Zbrush with my own custom Zstartup scene so all the extras Zprojects save are no use to me.
      I suppose part of it is also that Zprojects had a lot of issues with file corruption when first added as a feature, so I've always avoided them.

    • @TheIcemanModdeler
      @TheIcemanModdeler 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      musashidanmcgrath Something is definitely up and it’s weird, on some projects it sometimes does this and others it doesn’t. I will do a cleanup on the next project, just import the obj character that I made, it has 30 mil polys so it will take a long time to export and load.

    Is it about impossible in zbrush to snap two complex types of objects that maintain exactly a large number of polygroups? (It was a little difficult to understand the video because I am Korean, and please consider that my English is a mess) But in the beginning I think I heard references some Scripts. Where can I get it if I want to? And I think I heard that Pivot inheritance and IMM brush are not perfect either. Am I right to understand?

      @CRUXP 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Anyway, thank you always for your channel.

    • @MichaelPavlovich
      @MichaelPavlovich  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CRUXP your english is fine, it's just a weirdly complicated topic in ZBrush I think haha. If you are able to align two objects your polygroups shouldn't change, same with using an IMM brush, your polygroups should stay consistent (and IMM brushes will snap to a surface normal). As far as IMM pivots go, the normal direction will always be correct, but your x/y might not be "straight" if that makes sense - so on a round object like a screw you won't notice, but on a square object like a box, getting your IMM pivot "straight" might require the transpose line trick.
      For the scrips, I'm honestly not certain, if I find any I'll update the description, I never really need to snap surfaces exactly to eachother in my day-to-day (in fact, co-planar surfaces cause more problems in some cases), so it's never really been an issue for my work.

    I'm retopologising my model, I have a ring of faces down around the eye socket, when I try to extrude edgeloop inwards it add the faces but the 'snap to surface' seems to not work how it does when I only extrude the single face. Anyone know why and is it fixable?

    • @MichaelPavlovich
      @MichaelPavlovich  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can set a hotkey and run a subtool > Project > project all (or project history if you have that stored) to get your verts back to the surface

      @@MichaelPavlovich Thanks Michael now I have a new problem where I cant extrude edges in certain places, I think because there are invisible faces that I've created on accident. After some testing I can see that when I extrude certain faces the polycount goes up but no new face appears no matter what angle I look from. I really don't know what's going on and I'm at a stand still now. I also have tried using the 'double' view to locate hidden geometry, and also mirror and weld but to no avail.
