I always appreciated how there was a functional distinction between Movie Devastator and his components. He's not a just bigger solider holding a bigger gun, he's a literal weapon on four legs. There's a time when it's best to split up into a squad and a time to deploy the vortex grinder. G1 Devastator always felt a little hard to justify having one big guy over 6 smaller guys.
The thing about G1 combiners that always bothered me: why not just attack their feet? They got the same armor on them as the standard Cybertronian. Just aim at a foot and they'll topple over. Movie Devastator walks on all four to carry a massive weapon like some four-legged tank with multiple targeting systems to combat smaller enemies who try to take out his limbs. He's so underrated.
@@nickvang7 While it sounds really cool in theory, unfortunately movie devastator's weakness is simply hiding beneath his massive body lmfao. I really think they nerfed devastator in the movies, because a bunch of humans and the twins were able to easily hide under him.
@@FastforwardxD Yeah he needed more turrets below him, but I feel like the designers specifically left those out so the action scene could happen. The fact he had to fight against the comic relief characters really was an insult to the great ideas that went into Devastator's design.
1:34 Scavenger's shovel/scoop thing looks like a face screaming. Those two red dots being eyes and the shovel somewhat resembling a mouth. Made me laugh harder than it should 🤣😂
Fun fact: there is also a red rampage and a demolisher using these molds that were released in Japan and limited to a small quantity from Toys R Us back in 2009 or 2010
I own this set of figures, remember having so much fun with it, especially when pairing it with my other Legion figures. The only problem is Overload eventually broken on me, can’t remember exactly why but his arm is now broken in half which is bummer.
This set of constructicons is really nostalgic for me. As a kid, I was given a choice between Armada Starscream or the G1 color of legion class Devastator. I went with the Devastator and I do not regret it. Awesome combiner form for its size:)
Always been a fav toy of mine, and by the way, an idea for a possible “things that annoy transformers fans”: trying to get into other action figure franchises but being disappointed when all a completely fine figure does is pose and have a couple weapons. To me it just feels like something is missing.
since according to the comics that the constructicons were created by the allspark that would also explain why there are 2 of each constructicon in both roft and dotm and thats just an excuse to pair both g1 and movie as an army team group even the little ones can fit it because of that idea
I’ve got the Walmart exclusive g1 colors version of this set. It’s quite fun, and probably influenced me in my opinion that we need more legends scale combiners.
movie devastator is still one of my all time favourite bayformer designs, just an absolute heap of hateful alien metal, it’s incredible they could make any semblance of it work (as a combiner no less!) with figures of this scale
I had a big legends kick last year with the movie guys and this one was on the list. Got the normal Hasbro one and the Takara G1 version. It's such a fun set and for the first legends scale combiner, especially since Hasbro did it, it's great. Fun set if you are into the little guys.
I really loved this set. The price point, design, play value made it stand out for me. Too bad I gave him away as a gift to a friend's kid. Would want to get him again.
I remember getting one but now my Hightower and Longhaul are broken to a point where I can’t combine them. Hightower’s missing his legs and Longhaul’s left arm broke off. I guess I should buy new ones because I’m definitely not finding the missing pieces and glueing them back on.
I got this exact set as a kid and I LOVED THEM, such fun little figures that a literally never got tired of messing with. The only reason I ever stopped playing with them is an unfortunate one, as eventually the inevitable happened and Scavenger's arm broke at the joint when I tried to remove Scrapper 😥. Still, great fondness for them and glad I have them, this video honestly makes me wanna go fish them out and fiddle with them again
This was such a fun toy with the brief time I had it. I disassembled it and put them in vehicle mode, then when going into another combined mode, Overload's arm broke clean off and I couldn't do it anymore. It was cool, and I wish I could have it again.
I had this guy!.. 1 of skipjacks arms broke off, 1 of Mixmasters arms broke off, and my overload broke in half, liked him while he laster but I'm happy with my SS devestator
When I was seven I remember wanting this set more than anything. I loved ROTF and still do and I wanted Devastator bc he’s my favorite part of that movie. I’m thirteen and still haven’t found a single one. Please help
I do really like this design, I just also really don't like this design for Devastator specifically. I feel "All Hail Megatron" back in 2008/09 proved a G1-style Devastator can still be intimidatingly, so really it just comes down to me giving this guy a new name and issue solved.
That's how I feel about most movie designs. They are good when separated from their source material. You telling me that's supposed to be Onslaught in TKL?
This is perhaps the best small class combiners ever released in recent years, even back in '09, this was the best version of RotF Devastator since it has individual robot modes compared to the Supreme class one (also Overload being the seventh Constructicon was forgivable.) Now remains the question: between this, PotP Battletrap, and Legacy Volcanicus/Dinoking, who would win in terms of design, play value, and engineering?
Years ago I got this dude on amazon (long after it was on shelves) and it was delivered like 2 weeks early being a chinese import if I remember correctly. Since then, most of the figures have broken and it's sad because I liked this dude. I am thinking of getting another one
I had the big one that came out for the revenge of the fallen movie when I was little I lost interest in playing with it so I sold it and last year I had a memory of toy which made me want to play with it again and so I looked it up on Amazon and revenge of the fallen devastator is almost 1,000 dollars now which hurts me in my soul because one I could sell it for 1,000 dollars if I still had mine and two I don't have that much money and I can't get something I remember from my childhood
Always wondered why they couldn't replicate the individual robot modes for Supreme Class Devastator. Just take everything they did with Legends Class and make it bigger, problem solved. Probably a few tweaks, like giving the combined Devastator more articulation so he could bend over and stand on all fours, and hide his head a bit better in Mixmaster's robot mode so that poor Mix doesn't just have a big Devastator face coming out his butt 😂
just recently bought the movie advanced version for under 30€, new and all. only problem is that rampage (according to the manual it's rampage and not skipjack?) didn't come with a face. when i rotate the panel where the face should be it's just the pin where a face could mount to. so in my case i'll have to use the decepticon logo as a face. but i'll put them together to form devastator in the end anyway and i'll keep it like that. the small hinges and pins are way too fragile, it's way too easy to give it some stressmarks, if not worse
I had both KOs of Movie Advanced Takara AOE Battle Blades Prime and the Legion class Devastator both for like either $20-$40 and they felt GREAT. So if you find cheap KOs of it, might try giving it a go. Cause both ended up being very well made.
I remember wanting this legion class Devastator toy really badly. Like, I really wanted it. But sadly I never got it when it was on store shelves, but maybe I'll attempt to get my hands on it, from one of the many various toy websites, at some point in the future
That toy guy skipjack or rampage is not the only constructicons to have a robot mode if you remember in the ocean when they went to go revive Megatron at least four or five constructicons had robot moves we just couldn't distinctly see which ones they were but we know for sure that long haul went down there
When you said "he used to walk on all fours to sport his massive..." at the very beginning I thought the next thing that you were gonna say was "balls"
Legends devastator is pretty cool. Now they need to make an updated one, and I 100% agree about the bayverse devastator being the superior devastator. Also, can you review some more of the planet x figures like Megatron, shockwave, grimlock, etc etc. I can 100,000% recommend shockwave he's a great planet x figure

Be careful with overload in the small version of devy. Mine broke after only change modes a few times that I had to return it to get a replacement, something about that hook piece that fills in the middle of truck mode at least on my copy seemed thin and easy to break and the new one doesn't seem much better but I'm taking better care of it compared to the first one
For overload I kinda like the concept head better than the studio series figure head. The concept looks like the dotm shockwave but slimmer with a single orange eye which looked cool and the studio series I can tell if it has 1-3 eyes and the mouth looks scrunched up

That and each component is unique and not just 6 guys with a construction theme.
