    I love that you guys don't try to sell this as the end-all be-all of vinyl cutting. This goes a long way toward earning my trust as a customer. That said, sold!

    Great stuff! Glad to see these additions. Would love to see a vid on how carbide3d recommends integrating a laser to the shapeoko

    Hi Kevin Long time no see. I hung up the transmitter and I'm a Shaper Origin guy (as well as fine woodworking in general) and that's how I ended up here. I've owned a few vinyl cutters over the years so I get the drag knife concept. The optional springs for tension and compliment of knife angles are a nice touch. it's nice you offer this for your product line. Maybe I'll have to play with one of these in the Origin to see how it works 😊

    Cool add on. I just got a pro xxl and once I get it up and running I'll probobly consider this for making things like stencils

      For sure stencils are the big win.

    Neato! Looks like a good workflow improvement; I currently use the cricut for gaskets/seals and going from where I have my design in fusion through various converters to get to the cricut software is a pain.

    So many new/cool products! Add a rotary cutter to handle that felt, and I'll be able to toss my cricut (ok, so it mostly just sits on a shelf, anyway).

    Brilliant. Have you any suggestions for cutting P.E.T boards 9mm or 12mm. Thanks in advance.

    I'm going to cut custom gaskets with it for some 3d printed parts.

    Take my money please! I had already ordered one before the video was over :).... I mostly want this to help my kids with their school projects. I'm a bit of a perfectionist as well as always wanting my kids to have the best looking projects. At this price, it's a no brainer... The "shortcomings" mentioned, I don't think are due to this product or shapeoko, I suspect they are will drag knifes in general.... Anyway, keep the new products coming!

    Have you tested the stingray on cardboard? I’ve been considering a drag knife to make custom shipping boxes, but it seems like this is more geared towards thinner materials. Thanks!

    • @JohnColgan.
      @JohnColgan. 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      02:45 60° for thicker materials

    • @vstolpner
      @vstolpner 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, but has anyone tested it?
      It's one thickness is only one part of the equation... Cardboard is very tough and abrasive.. hence asking if anyone has actually tried it and what the results were

    • @JohnColgan.
      @JohnColgan. 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vstolpner there are many different grades of cardboard, everything from birthday cards , business cards to packing boxes. They can only state compatible for nominal material types!

    • @MichaelBrown-vq4fd
      @MichaelBrown-vq4fd ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. I’d like to know if this can cut single, double and triple wall cardboard. Maybe even a demo on honeycomb, although that is almost certainly too thick. Triple wall cardboard is 5/8”.

    Thanks for sharing. I may've missed it, but will this solution work withthe larger footprint CNC machines? We have a ShopSabre Pro 408, for example.

    how well does it work on leathers? obviously it cant cut super thick stuff.

    • @carbide3d
      @carbide3d  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haven't yet run any tests on leather. I suspect, like the felt, you're going to run into some work holding problems. And, you are correct, the depth could quickly become a problem. Testing, trial and error are the only way to learn such things. If you give it a go, let us know.

    Hey Kevin, do you happen to remember what you used for the stencil? You called it plastic poster board but my search is only turning up the corrugated plastic stuff used for yard signs.

    • @carbide3d
      @carbide3d  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Lori
      It’s from Michael’s. I believe it’s this one: www.michaels.com/pacon-plastic-poster-board-clear/10378153.html
      They have it with the standard poster boards if you are near a store.

    do I need to ease and polish the edge of the metal pressure foot? the machined edge on mine feels a bit sharp.

    • @carbide3d
      @carbide3d  ปีที่แล้ว

      You certainly can ease that edge, yes.

    • @bonmotwang
      @bonmotwang ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Kevin. Just to make sure I understand it correctly: the spring is used to push the head against the material a little so that it can compensate the minor unevenness of the cutting bed. I would polish the “foot” or “head” as smooth as I can after I get my set.

    • @gizmobowen
      @gizmobowen ปีที่แล้ว

      I've seen other videos with the same insert and they suggest rounded over the edges to keep it from catching. I'm going to do that with mine.

    at that price, this is a bargain. 15 blades is a great deal. I would expect to pay that for the blades, let alone the holder. I assume the top fits a 1/4" collet?

      I did that too. Depends on how big an item you want to cut. What type of materials you are cutting. And other factors. Every setup is unique.
