- In Part 2 of the 56 Project I take the Mainline 56 & fit a DCC harness and decoder. This is very much a beginners guide to how I go about converting this 1980's DC loco to DCC - please let me know in the comments if you found it useful.
Products Used:
Lais DCC Decoder Chip 860021 - NEM 652 8 Pin +Fn2 wire
Lais DCC 8 Pin Harness - NEM 652 860001
Very good tutorial. All my locos are DC but I have a DCC controller and one chip plus a number of older locos. Your information and tutorial made it easy to understand. Thanks for sharing. It came up in my search for converting older locos.
Cheers
Charlie
Thank you for your comment Charlie & many thanks for the feedback. I'm glad you found the video useful. Let me know how you get on with the conversion ! All the best...Andy
Great diorama in the opening scene
very informative video thanks and look forward to the video for fitting lights to the 56 👍
Thank you for your feedback and I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I've been meaning to carry on this project for ages but other things keep getting in the way. I've got so many other bits to do but I'll get around to it at some point :) Thanks for watching........Andy
Absolutely brilliant video and presentation. Explanation and diagram perfect to the point, I see you removed the bulb which makes it easier to see all the main wires for the decoder harness. thank you so much, now to attempt to try my 56 conversion to DCC.
Hi Dalip, thank you very much for your kind words. I hope the video can be some help to you and good luck with the conversion. I really need to get my skates on and do the next video in this project - I still need to fit some led lighting and weather the model. Take care & all the best.......Andy
Great video, really helps me with a future project 👍
Glad the video is of use to you buddy. Thanks for your feedback 😀 👍...Andy
Look forward to videos fitting some lights and maybe a tutorial on sound decoders too.
Absolutely brilliant vid! Andy, simply explained. I've only re-soldered lights and pick ups but never tried from scratch ( I've a touch like an elephant)
One of the most straight forward vids out there, well done👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
All the best, Darren.
Thanks Darren, i attempted to make this one as clear as possible - my HST motor upgrade wasn't really detailled ( it was a bit basic) so I spent a bit of time to make this one better. Thnks for your positive feedback, much appreciated.
@@Andy-SharlstonEastgate great video ! I am about to DCC mine as well but what motor type is that?
@@davidcurrie8564 Thanks David. This the original motor from Mainline. It's a type of ringfield, very similar to the Hornby one. It's a reliable version though, runs like a dream after 30+ years ! Cheers, Andy
@@Andy-SharlstonEastgate cheers Andy I never saw that type before! I disconnected all the capacitors and now left with the DCC wiring job lights too.. heres hoping!
@@Andy-SharlstonEastgate Hi Andy! Finally got the 56 wired to the 8 pin decoder now i have Both lights at both cab ends working at the same time? i took out the diode on the bulb wires maybe that was the problem your 56 was different from mine too I had two wires from the rear bogie as opposed to your one black wire I also had the red wire on the front motor bogie ( yours was black) I'll use my mobile to take photos the next time. I seen the lighting wires on the diagram but puzzled as the 56 has the headlight plus the two lights near the buffers running constantly green wires etc now back into it!
Great video and very useful as I was thinking about going dcc in the future when I remake my permanent layout, thanks for sharing 🙂👍🏻
Thanks for your feedback Mark, I'm glad the video was useful to you, all the best..........Andy
Hi Andy,
i'm stopping by to say hello 🙋♂🚂The sound of this loco is amazing. Good work man. Atb, Martin
Hi Martin, the sound at the beginning is from a real Class 26 - over dubbed on the video :) Thanks for your comment, all the best......Andy
@@Andy-SharlstonEastgate Ahh...that's cool to know, my friend.
Nice video like and subscribed from Czech Republic 🙂👍👍👍
Thank you very much my friend 👍
@@Andy-SharlstonEastgate you're welcome friends🙂
Hi,will this work in my Lima class55 deltic. I want to convert it to tts sound. Great informative video!
Hi Jed, yes, it will. Just check if your Lima motor has a capacitor across the motor contacts, if it has you will be best to remove it first. Otherwise this method will work perfectly for a TTS chip. Any problems drop me an email. Regards, Andy
welcome your channel😀👍
Thanks 👍
Great video, have you thought about remotoring with a single hornby high detail bogie?
Hi there & thanks for watching. Not thought about a re-chassis really, tbh it's finding the time. At the moment I'm planning the new layout & also trying to improve my painting & weathering skills - maybe a project for the future. All the best..............Andy
thanks i have the same model train and i was wandering how to connect the reversible lights
Hi Hammer, thanks for watching. I'll be designing and fitting lights in the next video, stay tuned for the next installment 👍....Andy
@@Andy-SharlstonEastgate thanks I will be watching it
I can't find part 3 - has it been published?
Hi Gamer, not had a lot of time for the railway tbh, I have started filming Part 3 but not got very much done. I'll see if I can make some progress soon. Thanks for watching........Andy
Where do I find part 3 please
Hi Johnny, unfortunately I didn't get round to completing this project. I still have the loco but a hundred other jobs have got in the way ! Thanks for your interest in the video......Andy
Is this the same way if u wanted to put sound in too
Exactly the same way Andrew. The speaker is attached to the decoder so just plug it into the socket and away you go 👍 thanks for watching and all the best.....Andy
