Sharlston Eastgate Model Railway
United Kingdom
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 23 ธ.ค. 2019
I'm a returning Model Railway enthusiast and I've based my channel around my 1980's Rail Riders days in West Yorkshire.
Most of my locomotives are BR Blue as I remember it from back then but I've also started a collection of Sectorisation locos and rolling stock to take me up to the early 90's.
The channel name comes from a mix of "Sharlston Common & Wakefield Kirkgate" which are both very close to where I live (on the Wakefield to Knottingley Line).
The loft layout was dismantled in 2021 / A new OO Gauge TMD project is ongoing / A OO Gauge Shed layout is in the planning stage.

Normanton & Pontefract Model Railway Exhibition - 2025, Sunday 26th Jan, Pontefract Racecourse.
Join me for half an hour as i visit my local - Normanton & Pontefract Model Railway Modellers Society 2025 Show at the new venue - Pontefract Racecourse.
I managed to get 75% of the layouts filmed before my battery gave up, apologies to the 3-4 I missed. Many thanks to the layout operators in what what was a very successful show at the new venue.
I bumped into Wayne @WaynesLocos for a chat & I also had a pleasant chat with Pauline & Rick from @wellchuffedrailways , always good to meet up with other "Tubers" at these shows.
Many Thanks for Watching..............Andy

After quite a lengthy break I've finally got back on the layout and filmed some trains on my Micro Layout - Eastgate TMD. Various DMU movements and a few passing locos pulling into & leaving the Yard. A mixture of loco sounds and sound effects, great fun to edit & put together. Hope you enjoy............. Not all of the layouts on show but a small collection of my personal favourites. A fantastic day with a great selection of layouts, traders & demonstrators. I would have liked to film the amazing "Halifax - Kings Cross" layout but the LED lighting played havoc with my frame rate so my footage was just a flickering mess :( Filmed in HD & 4K on mobile devices. The TMD: Part 4, Improving the Backscene & a new Diorama, July 2023, OO Gauge Model Railway 720p HD
มุมมอง 1.6Kปีที่แล้ว
In this short update I make a start on the scenery at the back of the layout. Using basic materials I put together a hillside, refurbish an old half relief factory & create a small removable diorama behind the TMD area. I also try to give the backscene some depth with a town scene poster attached to the sky boards. Please let me know any feedback with a comment or question and a thumbs up would...

Yes, I've finally made a little progress on the TMD project. We've had some great weather so I've not been so active on the build. Over the last couple of months I've done some little bits to the North end of the layout & set up a few scenes for some interesting photos. Hope you like it. Please leave me some feedback, I enjoy your comments and will reply to all. The video is quite compact so if...
The TMD : Part 2 / Backscene paint & scratch building a road bridge. OO Gauge Model Railway.
มุมมอง 3Kปีที่แล้ว
In this short update I go all Van Gogh & attempt to paint a reasonable looking sky backscene. I also scratch build a scenic break road bridge from scrap timber, card, paper & some 3d printed parts. Thanks for tuning in, please leave me a like and all comments most welcome. All Music - YT Audio Library (Copyright Free)

มุมมอง 3.6Kปีที่แล้ว
It's been a fair few months since I've done any layout videos for the channel, all is explained in this short video, I've started a new mini layout which will be based on a British Rail Manufacturing plant, paint shop & TMD. With a scenic section of 180 x 70cm i plan to keep this project managable with a simple track plan & minimal electronics. Thank you for watching & please leave a thumbs up ...

Hi Julian, thanks for the feedback. Glad the video was useful to you 👍🏼 thanks for watching and your comment.....Andy
Thanks, a very useful video as I need to give my mainline 56’s a good service
Many thanks for your kind comment, so glad the video was useful to you, all the best......Andy
Nice!
Thanks for watching and your comment Alan 👍🏼
Cracking video!
Thank you very much buddy, much appreciated !
18/01/25. Just come across this mini series, so I've binge watched. Nice techniques used. Simple and effective. Sadly long time since i had facility for modelling, I miss it, but still follow. Ive subbed too, so some more catching up to do probably.
Thank you very much Robert, your comment is much appreciated. I do need to post an update, I've neglected the layout over the past year, other things got in the way. Saying that, it's a hobby so I do bits when I get chance. Once again thanks for watching & your sub ( by the way you are my "1000th" sub !!! Wow, I didn't think my channel would reach this kind of attention !) All the best.......Andy
@Andy-SharlstonEastgate Congratulations 🎉🎉. I'm also pleased, it's the first time I've 1,000th in anything, lol 🤣🤣🤣
Glad you enjoyed everything we had on offer ^^
It was a good show, enjoyed my first visit to Barnsley RailEx. I'll be planning another visit next year. Thanks for watching...Andy
awesome vid ! really nice modeling and trains on display :)
Thank you very much Mystic, appreciate your comment......Andy
Hi ya Andy. What a great exhibition. You got some brilliant shots buddy well done. Think my favourite was Tunnstone Quarry and Meden Vale. Lovely bit of photography Andy. Thank you for sharing. Thumbs up thumped 👍 ....Pete and Su....
Thanks for watching and your kind comment buddy. I tried a different camera on this video and I'm not too impressed with some of the shots. I'm not familiar with some of the settings on the camera and I think I could have done a lot more to improve the picture quality (lighting mostly). Never mind, it was a crackin' show with some top quality layouts - yes, Tunnstone is an amazing layout and I think my personal favourite had to be Howbrooke. Take care my friend & thanks again......Andy
@Andy-SharlstonEastgate Hi Andy. Just to let you know we are going to Doncaster again next year. Hope to see you there buddy. ....Pete and Su....
@@delphjunction1168 Good news mucker, let me know nearer the time what day and I'll adjust my plans to make sure we get to meet up again 👍
Thank’s for that interesting report. 😃👍
Merci Alain. It was a very good exhibition 👌 👍🏼 😊
Thanks Andy, plenty of very professional looking scenic work on there. Makes me wish I was more of a scenic type person (I'm definitely not). Thanks for sharing.
@MrKlf1956 thanks for your comment Kev. Yes, some incredible layouts on show with a very high standard of modelling. Great for some inspiration! I'm considering joining a club next year and getting involved in the exhibition scene 🤔
Excellent Show Andy. Lovely layouts on show, Thank you for sharing, ATB Stuart

great vid of train shor thanks for the share on channel keep up the great vid you do

Hello Andy enjoyed your video there’s some very nice layout s some superb modelling thanks for sharing good to see the hobby s alive and well cheers for now al 👌🚂🤗🤗👍🍻
Thanks Al 👏 It was a great day out, fantastic layouts, good atmosphere and well attended. Cheers for your comment and support as always 👍 ATB.......Andy
@@Andy-SharlstonEastgate 😁😁👍👍
Great video Andy, very nicely filmed i really like Attercliffe works layout.
Thanks Deano, much appreciated. I was chatting with the owner of Attercliffe Works (he also built the 'BSC Orgreave' layout), this was only it's second trip out on the circuit. It's a beautiful layout with superb detail. Thanks again buddy, all the best....Andy
Lovely update. Is that engine shed a cardboard kit? If so is it possible to make it a little narrower (I don’t have as much room). Many thanks and keep up the good work !
Hi mate, thanks for your comment. The shed is the Scalescenes R023a Diesel Depot (yes, card kit), a great looking kit and can be easily kitbashed to make it thinner. The dimensions are on the website but with a bit of snipping I'm sure you could fit it in. All the best......Andy
@Andy-SharlstonEastgate perfect..thank you
Nice that you have a resin printer as you can achieve that greater detail
@charlie1872 it's been a good piece of kit when it comes to small detail items, had it a couple of years now and i should really use it more often. It just takes time to design and perfect the prints. Thanks for your comment pal.............Andy
@@Andy-SharlstonEastgate I have a Monoprice Filament printer, I need to replace the table surface but have printed a few items like relay boxes, skips etc. As you say, it’s the modelling which makes it and I really should do more.
Great build Andy. Did you build your own 3d prints for the girders?. Well done👍
yes Charlie, designed them in Tinkercad, one of my first attempts :) I don't think they look too bad.
@@Andy-SharlstonEastgate I dabble a bit in Tinkercad. I have a relay box which isn’t plumb, any idea how to get it vertical ?
@@charlie1872 not sure if fillament printing is the same but i found with resin that the printer must be 100% level when printing & also, don't slice a print that has already been sliced, this caused me problems as prints came out with odd lines and deformaties?
Fast Ford exhibition, Lotus Cortina, XR3i :)
oh yes, plenty of tasty Fords :) I've got more on my own layout to see including Sierras & Granadas and in my next video will be a first look at my new Mk2 Transit :) Many thanks for watching & your comment......Andy
Spend all day at an exhibition next to that and you will shove the sound up his back end. After a full day listening and not owning the unit your best friend becomes your enemy.
oh, I disagree David, I could listen to that lovely Valenta day & night. Thanks for watching and your comment....Andy
Hi Andy. Brilliant buddy. Love my HST not got any sound on it though. Have got the light upgrade. Thanks mate. Thumbs up thumped 👍 ....Pete....
Hi Mucker, hope you are well. Big thanks for the comment & the 👍much appreciated pal
Hello Andy very nice enjoyed your short sounds fabulous 👌😊😁😁🚂
Many thanks for your comment Al, yeah, I'm pretty impressed with the Hornby chips 🍟 😄👍
That sounds brilliant Andy! Definitely going to put these in my GNER set now after hearing this , thanks for sharing mate , cheers Darrell 😃👍
@darrelldeltic807 👋 yeah, I was quite suprised tbh, even more so with the mega bass speaker fitted. I just need another chip now for the rear unit and a bigger layout so I can run all of my Mk 3's 😄
@@Andy-SharlstonEastgatenice one mate, I just pickup another one from someone who’d removed it from the new HST as they didn’t use the HM7000? I don’t think they realise you can switch it to dcc control 🤔
I'm still in feet and inches, Cannot be doing with cms.
Great scenic work, I particularly like the fencing made from fly mesh…. I might pinch that one! Cheers John b😎
Pinch away John :) It's great that this YT Model Railway crew share ideas, I've learnt a huge amount from the great videos on here. The mesh was only a few quid & I can make metres of fencing with it :) Once again, many thanks for your comment & all the best....Andy
Another great running session👍 Enjoyed that. All the best John b 😎
Much appreciated John, Thanks 👍
Great video! It took me back to being a kid when everything was a DMU! Wonderful details everywhere you seem to look, from the the track and lineside cabinets! Brilliant stuff. Also loving the period vehicles as well, who doesn’t love a Maestro! 😳 Cheers John b 😎
Love my DMU's mate, takes me back to my Rail Riders days around West Yorkshire. I've got a big thing for the 1980's cars as well, passed my test in a Maestro !! Thanks for your kind comment..Andy
@@Andy-SharlstonEastgate - yeah I used the cross city line/Birmingham all DMUs. Holidays in Wales all DMUs. Passed my test in a Metro! I went to the Llangollen railcar weekend last October, they have a fine selection of DMUs running there. I went on my own and spent all day, and I mean all day riding the rails in all these different trains & I loved it, took me right back. I’ve only got a 121 on my layout as I model up to date modern Image, but watching your videos has made me want to buy a blue & grey DMU! Keep up the good work John b😎
Hello Andy missed this one but caught up now a very nice video some great shots and sounds enjoyed cheers for now al 👋🚂🤗👍👍
No worries Al, thanks for dropping by & your kind comment, much appreciated..........Andy
@@Andy-SharlstonEastgate 👋🚂🤗
Great Andy enjoyed watching it. The layout is looking top notch with all the scenics done and I did like the background sounds, oh apart from the dog barking, it set mine off😂. Great video cheers Andy
Thanks Andy, I'm far from finished with the scenics but I've not had the time to progress, I try to mask the unfinished bits :) Hopefully I'll get time to sort a bit more soon. I did enjoy adding the extra sound effects to this one. Many thanks for watching my friend & all the best...Andy
Schick schick :D <3
Danke Eme ❤️
Excellent video pal !!! Gonna have to have a catch up.
Cheers Mucker, yes, it's been a while. We'll have a meet up soon.
Great to see the latest update Andy - looking really good. I've always struggled to get excited about multiple units on the real network because they are everywhere, but that's precisely why I love them in model form - they are essential and really bring layout to life. Bachmann do a great job of pretty much every multiple unit they've ever made and you've done a good job of weathering them - DMUs in the 80s were never clean.
Hi Colin, hope you are well. Yes, I'm very fond of my Bachmann DMU collection, reminds me of back in the 80's riding on these on the Calder Valley Line & over to Leeds. I can't take credit for the weathering on the 101, a good friend of mine did this one for me. Many thanks for dropping in & your kind comment, Cheers........Andy
Amazing Andy. Everything looks superb. Backscene looks so real. And the line up at the end, well what can i say. 👍🏻👍🏻, ATB to you.Stuart
Many thanks Stuart, glad you enjoyed & thanks for your kind comment, ATB.......Andy

Thanks Darrell, I'ts good to be running trains again.
Great running clips and a very nice layout.
Thanks for your comment Deano, much appreciated 👍
cracking scene Andy and a great loco too
Thanks Digger, very kind of you, much appreciated.
Where do I find part 3 please
Hi Johnny, unfortunately I didn't get round to completing this project. I still have the loco but a hundred other jobs have got in the way ! Thanks for your interest in the video......Andy

Stunning sounding loco!! Love that 37. That grass scatter and bush combo is perfect. That back scene really makes a difference. Adds to the atmospherics. Great video, very enjoyable. Thanks!
Hi AHJ, many thanks for your comment, much appreciated. I kept "acquiring" 37's during 2023, way too many for my budget ! I've been sound chipping them one by one when funds allow. The beauty at the start is 37401 - Mary Queen Of Scots, I bought her from Alain at Loch Vath Trains, he posted it over from France. She sounds amazing !! It's about time I did some more work on the micro layout, Things seem to have got in the way of progress lately and my mojo need refreshing. All the best....Andy
@@Andy-SharlstonEastgate hi Andy, yeah we’ve all been there mate, mojos return, don’t you worry! You’ll be back in no time. It’s great progress!
Hi Andy. Great exhibition Andy. Was great to see you at Doncaster, hope to see you at GETS if you go? Hard to choose on this exhibition for my favourite one. So much detail on them. Think TGB was very impressive. Thanks buddy. Were you using the gimbal you showed me at Doncaster? Brilliant videoing Andy. Stay safe mucker. ....Pete
HI mate, thanks once again for your kind comments. Yes, was a pleasure chatting with you both at Donny, I probably would have chatted for ages if my buddy hadn't of come to find me 😆 Don't know what the plan is for this year, it will be either GETS or Warley, no plans as of yet. This exhibition was a corker, some really nice layout on show. For me the smaller layouts impressed me the most, 'BSC Orgreave' was amazing as was 'The Warren'. Unfortunately the one layout I wanted to film (a steam layout called 'Halifax-Kings Cross' ) failed as somehow the led lighting played havoc with my camera and it was just a flickering mess when I came to view the footage at home. Yes, the whole video was filmed using the DJI OM4 SE gimbal, a great piece of kit, I can wholly recommend them for filming these exhibitions - makes my shaky hands camera work look half decent 😄 Once again, thanks for your comments and support my friend, take care.....Andy
@@Andy-SharlstonEastgate Thanks Andy got to get one of those gimbal. Hey shaky hands tell me about it.😄 Thanks again buddy. ....Pete....
Hi Andy. Having a look back at your vlogs. What a great variety. Love the written commentary of what's happening. Layout looks fantastic as usual. Thanks buddy. ....Pete.
Hi Pete, thank for dropping in pal. The little diorama in the video was a piece of my old layout, I still use it today as a test track. It was a challenge to film a vid with just 120cm to play with ! Thanks for the kind comments, much appreciated.....Andy
I love your work. Has inspired me. Also thanks for watching my channel. Regards Bernie
That is really kind Bernie, thank you very much. I'm watching your new build with interest, it's coming on great 👍......Andy
Hey Andy, thought I would pop in here for a look at your canal (from 3 years ago). I am working on my canal right now complete with disasters but will rescue it eventually. Truly is a learning curve as you mention. Mixing different scatter into a tub, now why did I not think of that. I applied each colour by hand individually oh well next time eh. I went black on my canal base but I think your murky green works much better, oh well next time. All in all you have did a marvellous job.
Hi Tony 👋 and many thanks for your comment. This canal project was great fun to do, I basically copied lots of ideas and tutorials from YT and went for it 😀 I suprised myself in how it turned out 😂 btw...your comment landed in my 'held for review' inbox for some reason, hence the late reply, no idea how that happened 🤔 all the best....Andy
Hey Andy, no problem. I also get comments in the held for review box and never can understand why as there never appears to be anything wrong with them. TH-cam and its mysterious ways eh?
