I took me 2 years to make friends with our neighborhood crows. Probbaly because people here are jerks and give them a hard time. Last spring one landed on my fence and stared at me through the window for a while before flying away. And a year later, he finally hung around a bit and picked up some bird seed. A flock of crows is called a murder of crows . As great as they are to watch , the wild songbird population will disappear from your area.I have also seen them eat baby bunnies until none were left in the nest.
I only really see the crows in the winter months now. I live on the edge of a wooded area and I believe they roost there. I learned the hard way that they will eat small animals. I work at home and sit at a window at the back of my home. I have a perfect view of this spot. I have several chipmunks that visit and last spring one of the crows picked one up by the tail!!! I immediately jumped up, the crow saw me and released the chipmunk. The crows stopped visiting for the most part once that happened. They can see me sitting in the window. I was shocked when they started visiting again but hunger can be a huge factor. Once the chipmunk incident happened I stopped encouraging them. But they know there is food here. I do like that they sound the alert when the hawk is out but I will have to watch them closely again this spring. Once weather is better I’m out in the yard gardening when I’m not tied to my work desk
